Fellow Explorers, We Need To Start Cleaning Up After Ourselves

Back To The Alt Account. Rant Over.

As I said, I'm back at the alt account, now.

Some of them have been corrupted by the Great Stellar Forge Event some of us remember. As a result, many of my First Discovered's have been claimed by others.

One or two have suffered the Vali-Dating Game.

This is only a partial list of scraps.

EDSM says I have over 2500 firsts.

EGO is melting down, after adding a link to EDD. As a result, I only have 15 record-breakers. They will be going over updating this as soon as they can get the capacity to do so.

I have about the same number of systems on EGO, as I do on EDSM, so all of those are due to the new API reporting. I did much more exploring before 2.x dropped.

At least the payouts are better now. It's a good bet that Frontier needed to bribe explorers to stay, with the higher payouts.

Mayhem, here ah come! Alt Account don't have mah name on it! Wheeeeeeeee! [big grin]

:D
You will hate me if you end up coming across the path I've been on the last few months. I only scan high value planets, I even skip high value planets further away than 25-ish kLs.
Been doing this for thousands jumps....
The only times I scan full systems is if I guesstimate it to be close to a new personal record for total value.

Future tense, on hating you getting there first? :) New personal records will have to beat Admiral Altnil's. :)

Frontier's object generation puts objects a ludicrous distances, for not allowing jumps to the next target. One of the secondary systems I passed through was at 0.17 light-years from the entry star. Not quite the Hutton run, but ridiculous.

I've seen one or two that make the Hutton run look like a stroll down the street.

Bear in mind though that up until the recent hike in Exploration data, most planets - including HMC's - paid peanuts. Only Water Worlds & Earthlikes paid decent amounts. Gas Gaints paid more than HMC's, not any more.

That's probably why these have been ignored in the past & worth finding now!

Exactly.

Lol. I just visited the first ELW I discovered on one of my first trips...

I marked the planet, and nothing else.

Some day, some poor explorer is going to stumble upon the system, and get excited. They'll skim over all those planets, and when they get to the last one, a little blue sphere, they'll see it.

I was surprised and enriched a good amount as a new player when I got an ADS & DSS and just started scanning stuff left unexplored in my travels about the Bubble, learning the game. Tons of high metals, water worlds, gas giants and more left unscanned in many, many bubble systems. I didn't care about the first discoveries because I was planning a long exploration trip for that. Those scans paid my expenses and my upgrades for quite some time.

Why bother. Ed will just dumb exploration down another level and your hours of gameplay will be blown to the wind.

The hours I spent prospecting planets only for the DSS to suddenly do it in seconds

The hours I spent triangulating systems only for the journal to hand it out on a plate.

The (not so many) hours spent plotting interesting routes around the galaxy only for FD to hand out 20 Kylie straight lines

whilst I wont deny the QOL of the route planner, manual plotting each jump, and thus actually planning routes made the first (pre 1.0 betas)Bucky Ball runs what they were, made charting a personal rare goods run, and becoming proficient it quick replots a true test of skill l, and madr the 5 hours it took me to take a D rated Sidewinder out to the Pleiades in Gamma a real adventure

I think that has more to do with the mechanic of exploration and the lack of real structure around it. They currently have not provided anything mechanic that drives people to explore planets. Everyone knows there is absolutely nothing to find nor a reason to explore the planets. The only reason to spend the hour to multiple hours it takes to scan each individual planet is to make money. It makes exploration less about exploration and more about surveying planets for corporations.

Now they can add all kinds of stuff to make it better. They can actually put something on these planets to find would be a fine example. Another is they can change this scan one planet at a time mechanic. add more features to planets and ways to interact with new systems. They need to add a science station to perform experiments and identify materials. The Final thing would be to allow more than just your name to show up as the discoverer. They should allow the explorer to leave a catalog entry for the system explaining their experience and any cool findings while exploring. Perhaps that portion can be locked behind the exploration of the whole system.

Well until there's actually something to do other than honking and scanning, exploration is basically setting a destination, getting there, and either setting another or heading back. There's currently no other reason to scan stuff outside of credits and first discoveries. I have a ton of both so for me there's very little motivation to spend the time scanning every single rock and ice ball in every system I jump into. Hopefully at some point FDev decides to add some actual content to exploration which changes that.
