Will I ever be able to get out of my ship?

As I said I don't have an issue in waiting for space legs, be it another couple of years. If that's the case I think the holo me customisation is somewhat cynical.

It is cynical because...? Last time I remember customisation was very good and FD have put considerable time into it. No?

Soon™

'Space Legs' as they are called in the forum and probably reddit will probably come within the next YEARS because after 2.4 (the next big update) Frontier Developments wants to improve core mechanics of the game and since space legs are at the moment not part of the game it will take a long time until they arrive.

Depending on how you look at it, Space Legs could absolutely be core gameplay. Just core gameplay that doesn't currently exist. My hope is that FD see it this way and Space Legs will be addressed sooner rather than later.

That's really the crux of it, right? There's been extensive discussions about space legs all over the forums, and it's a difficult one to answer from our perspective. It's something we really, really want to do.... but if it doesn't add any long-term value, it's a lot of work for something that lacks meaningful gameplay. There was another thread on this that we were taking notes from with regards to the comparison to EVE's version of 'space legs'. Unfortunately that thread was lost as the OP requested his account to be removed and all posts he made to be wiped. Essentially it was a discussion regarding the feature being removed from EVE (if I recall the linked article correctly) due to lack of people using.

It's still something we'd like to do, but the focus after 2.4 will be improvements of core gameplay mechanics. To add this rather heavy feature without meaningful activities around it would be a disservice to you guys, and it's a hell of a lot of work for the dev team. My advice would be to work on the assumption that it'll be a ways off yet, because as has been mentioned many times before: to do it properly would be a whole new game within ED.

There is a ton of stuff that could be added with Elite Feet, but I agree that the core game needs looking at first, maybe more landable planets. There has to be good meaningful gameplay if elite feet is to be added otherwise it would be a huge amount of dev work for very little gameplay.

Its cynical they are selling customisation in store for a barley developed aspect of the game, that may or may not see any further development in the future, no.

It's no use getting legs until there's something to so when ambling about. I'm for this as well, but we'd need developed station interiors and ships before this becomes a reality. It may be part of the coming improvements along with atmo planets and Earth like worlds with dinosaur hunting preserves.

Elite is a marathon, not a sprint.

So *that's* why they have to keep running around in No Man's Sky.... :)

and for what? Again ride them on the rover?
When we are no longer disabled in the armchair feel?

Avatars does not imply space legs. They might makes us dream about space legs, but it is not unwritten promise about doing them.

OT (mostly)

Wow, the amount of Space Leg topics is sure rising! I really want to get our from my seat, my SRV and have something to do on foot - I`m not the ship, I`m a pilot. SL would increase the imurshion for me significantly.
Also obligatory quote from Sandro:

uring a Q&A at PAX East 2017, lead designer Sandro Sammarco:

"Just to set the record straight, Space Legs and EVA gameplay, that's way off in the future. That's a goal. I've talked to David and it's always been part of his core vision for what Elite really is, even from way back in the day, it's always been about you're a person in a real futuristic setting, not just a ship. "

But if they are not going to do a full FPS game that bolts on to ED (and, I mean, *I'd* buy such but I can't speak for anyone else and I don't know if I would bet on it) any time soon is there anything else of lesser scope they could do with avatars that might get you some of the experience you are looking for?

Right now the space suits are primarily for the in-cabin cameras and self-made hero shots from multiple angles for the "selfie" generation. Apart from the fact that they are OPTIONAL and you don't have to get any if they offend you. Only a cynic would ignore that to make a specious point.

In short, no space legs.

While I appreciated your post - I really do - netherless I can't deny my disappointment about the future of Elite.

Not because it was David that said that you could hide in the cargo of a ship, meaning space legs would arrive, but because seems to me that has been sold a vision and not a game in fieri (latin: "in becoming" it is the first traslation come in my mind not being english my first language).

And this is quite sad.

Also, while I can only (try to) imagine (not being a dev) the problems hidden behind such expansion, i think that the attitude in saying "Can't do this because there is no meaningful gameplay" isn't the best one in developing a product.

If this wasn't true, why you would have bothered in bringing us a galaxy of 400 Bilions of stars?

Maybe because there are 400 bilions of different form of gameplay?

Honestly I would dare to say no: and in fact, the gameplay turn around the same activities and after 100, maybe 200 different jump, you can have a rather precise idea about the planets in every sun of your galaxy.

Netherless, the Galaxy is out to be explored.

At this point, If I may, a suggestion: considering the Elite has taken a different path form what have been said, Fd should seriously considering in release a roadmap of what will be added in the next years.

The truly less you can do for your loyal customers.

Easy. Here is nice list from one of the SL discussions, not mine but I`m fully for something like that:

"Inside my ship: Interaction with ship systems, conducting manual repairs of systems, patching hull breeches, interacting with Passengers.
Outside my ship (in space): Conduct repairs, mend hull breeches, interact with data beacons, satellites and other objects in space with the kind of delicacy only human hands can managed.

Outside my ship (on planet surfaces): Repairs, collect core samples, interact with environmental objects, enter structures (outposts, camps, other facilities), explore caves and fissures too small for SRV's, place automated mining equipment

Outside my ship (on a station/planetary installation): Interact with NPC's, hack terminals to steal data. Break into restricted areas to "liberate information", such as new Engineer Blueprints, weapons designs, prototype modules, engage in CQC matches via telepresence, visit the Knowledge Repository and catch up on all the history, lore, backstory, retcons and other going-ons in an interactive manner, and yes, personally deliver a small load of biowaste. :)"

And not even one pew pew activity....

MODS: can we please have ONE mega topic about SL? Every day someone is making a post about SL...

I can definitely see myself accepting a mission to board a capital ship to download some data or sabotage it, exploring ship wrecks, derelict outpost (both in space and on the surface). Anything ranging from spying, pirate missions to gunfights. The range is wide.

Oh, again the translation? It means that for example I'm tired of sitting in a chair as an invalid

So am I. Believe me, I want space legs too, but I do want good gameplay to go with it.

I don't want the devs spending a year just to add walking around your cockpit for a few minutes with nothing else to do. It would be nice from time to time, but for me that is not a good enough reason to add it with all the dev time that would take.
