For heavens sake why? You can purchase the ships with ingame REC in 3.0 and once the game goes live. Whats the motivation to drop yet MORE hundreds of real life dollars on this?

But hey, to all the whales and gullies...please keep giving because Star Citizen keeps delivering (comedy gold). It would be a shame if this running gag would die tommorow forcing me to look for another source to get my laughs. As it stands I m very glad I dont have to pay for this and there are so many people who can be impressed easily and are ready to jump out of their undies for it :)

Fritz actually Erin said yesterday that you will not be able to buy them with ingame REC in 3.0 it will be after 3.1.

So, the mission was worse than one shown a year ago, the camera and facial tracking system (neat, but ultimately not that important) is apparently worked on by a contractor, and the Idris combat demo while nice, wasn't terribly impressive. Did I miss anything?

This is not just a movie. This is a movie stuffed with ultra immersion and totally-not-scripted events that goes to 11. It's not just fidelity, this is Genuine Roberts fidelity

You are absolutely correct ASP, but change 'movie' for 'game', Todays ground breaking presentation was clearly not scripted it was real alpha game play and why not hope it becomes a full game, If/when it does we can all enjoy it. Actually real time talking to other players in game who would not want that?

I'm looking forward to some comparison videos of the first ten minutes of "game-play" they replayed. The "players" pulling identical facial expressions using the new face time tech was especially dodgy.

*Wonders if current Tobii 4C eyetracker will work at all*

Just so not buying a fancy schmancy RSi webcam to fill up more USB3 slots [squeeeee]

Even allowing for the glitches, this seems to actually be a significant step BACK from last year's demo - even if that was mocked-up I'd have expected more this time. They even teased things they've shown before (worms) but never showed or mentioned them again.

I don't know how much that crash threw them - having claimed persistence, then having to re-do 20 minutes of pointless running around just to get back to where they were - surely persistence would have respawned them with all the missions, weapons still in place? Or knowing it is the most important demo of the year for them, have rigged up some sort of save points they could resume from even if it wasn't the 'real' solution?

This year's presentation is going to be remembered as when the wheels fell off SC's wagon - quite literally...

The persistence will only respawn you back at the last place you woke up in...ship, if you logged out on a bed in your ship...if you died, last place you docked with a medical facility.

Unfortunately, if the game crashes you spawn back where you started or your last save point. With the way they ran the 'mission' in the demo...they needed all 3 since the Aquila still was under player 3's (John's) authority. He obviously hadn't handed authority to the other 2...although if his game hadn't crashed, they would have been able to assume control.

The same happens in the current baby PU...pilot's game crashes out, ship can't be piloted by anyone else in the crew...means they all need to respawn and replay the mission.

They've pulled the youtube video, I wanted to grab a screenshot of Chris holding his head in his hands when it crashed after 30 mins of walking down corridors

Did anyone else get it?

That's seriously their intended end design? So if I go out and shoot pirates, I have to take a nap after every kill to ensure it doesn't get lost? If I've picked up an object in this multiplayer "persistent" universe, it just magically vanishes forever if I get disconnected? If I've taken a player's contract, oh well, gone for good? In what way is that "persistent"?

They had to go through every step again, even the "communication"bits..that were at that time pointless...they could have just one run to the guy to get the mission, one to get the weapon at the same time...they didnt there were many steps actually pointless being shown again but clearly indicated to "have to" it was mindbogeling.

I look forward to your video of that Zee when can I expect it?

In game...as in with real players playing in the PU, there would be no need. Since this demo was scripted, they had to re-accept the mission, buy the railguns...go to ship..etc, etc. Saying that, I've no idea how things would work out on a mission if the game or your PC crashes...probably similar, since the 3.0 PU is live and only saves when you log off or go to sleep in a bed.

Yeah but CR claiming there to be persistence now and everything and then having THAT show up is rather embarrising. Dont get me wrong crashes can happen in presentations happens to everyone. But for all those live presentations its "damn it crashed just wait a minute i will jump back in" for SC "lets roll it from the start" i see a huge problem in that even more so when he afformentioned stated a persistence to be a place more then in 2.6.

Addition:
For me its a difference to have something to show or showing something you have. SC is the first.

For me, that was dross.

The scripted "RP" was quite frankly embarrassing. Nobody plays games like that - it was a totally pathetic attempt at turning it into a movie. The girl in particular was totally useless - I had to mute the audio it was so bad. CR was talking over them, and the "ladies first/nice jacket/lets rock and roll" was infantile.

Nobody asked for the facial stuff, and it looks awful - ME3 awful, and then some. If you're going to bring something like that to the table, when nobody asked for it, it has to be fantastic in my humble opinion. As it was, it looked terrible - the facial expressions were at best farcical and at worst just spooky - it instantly triggers uncanny alley, and makes ME look GOOD!. Positional audio - well yay for that, I was doing that back with CSound in '92 on the NeXT.

Again - only Miles the mission man. He didn't even spawn first time around. No game loop, no cargo, no commodities, no outfitting, no inventory, a horrible UI for getting clothes on and having to equip shoulder pads individually, no persistence.

Why can't we be allowed to see the loading screen? What was CR covering up?

And then it was all just pew pew which is all we've seen for the last week. It was quite frankly dire.

Where's SQ42? Not even mentioned. Where are the AI which apparently all have jobs and things to do, but never ever fly space ships etc. Where's the flight dynamics/model - ships just stop and rotate in space as if there's no gravity or inertia.

The FPS during the capital ship battle was sub 15 fps for sure.

As always, it looks pretty good, but it simply doesn't work.
