Yeah I saw that, some while ago too actually but good reminder, which is more what I was trying to say about seeing it on demo last night really. Doesn't Star Trek .. is it Bridge Command .. use a similar tech? Was really looking for something positive though, because 'your voice gets quieter, when it's further away' probably doesn't quite cut it as far as new limits of verisimilitudinous fidelity goes.

The killer ramp was my favourite bit.

The killer ramp was my favourite bit.

Was that the bit where they struggled to get the rover thing up the ramp and on the 3rd(?) attempt it janked through the ramp and it went into Lego pieces everywhere?

If so. Yes that was funny and well worth 156 million.

If you believe the article is an honest opinion or not (I thought it was well balanced) One thing to keep in mind is that of the thousands watching the live stream very few will be undecided customers, so as far as getting new backers to spend money the live demo is probably not very effective. The $500,000 + raised yesterday was I'm guessing mostly ship sales to current backers.

The PC gamer article will be viewed by a much wider audience and will lead to lots of new backers signing up.

Interestingly the article was not written about the live demo but about a personal interview/demo by CR to the journalist. As CR was doing that all through gamescon, I expect a lot of new backers will sign up as a result of that and similar articles. So a job well done as far as SC are concerned. As this thread has a limited audience any comments here are like spitting into the wind in the bigger picture.

Is this the new version of "You FUD spreading disbelievers should just give up on your Jihad against the righteous ones, the crusade is winning and has bought the non-critical entirely complementary publicity it needs"?

Pretty sure that's entirely what's bothering people. At least PCInvasion's coverage isn't deceptive.

BTW how has saying people will be able to download this in a few days turned into October? Is that because the spike of sales is over? Is in a few days the new before Xmas?

Well, to be fair, they didn't said they definitely would be able to. They hinted that it might happen. So of course, the fans went wild, splurged on ships thinking they would get to play them in a few days, but its probably their own fault, since obviously CIG never definitely confirmed it would be avaialble in a few days.

You just don't understand marketing :D

Pro. It was hilarious

Con. Unless you backed it.

Star Citizen has a ten year plan, but lulzbuckets are forever!

Some of what was shown was really kind of cool - or at least it would be if it weren't hyped to 11, endlessly repeated and years old.

Some of what was shown was irredeemably dull - their weapon effects alone are enough to get me reaching for the mute switch.

Whoever writes their scripts really ought to complete primary school.

So, can someone sum up the Gamescom presentation in short ?

Like, a list of pros and cons... ?
Pros - with the new tech you can pull space-girls taking them to moons they've never visited before and see their mindless gurning with FaceRig(tm) built into version <mumbles> that'll be out by December

Cons - nothing!

Pros - I can fly to an asteroid in my Aurora and sit on it one shotting every ship that comes near with my railgun.

Cons - I only have an Aurora.
