Wow, I was blind all this time when playing Elite, uninstall time
I don't believe that SC is being built as a complete unit of "game" developed in synchronisation. It's quite clearly being built in feature chunks with some iteration over old features. In that respect they probably aren't massively different approaches as people like to think.
I can see where you're coming from in your post, but there's a whole different feel between the two. Many features in even the first E1.0 release were, at their own level, complete. The galaxy map may have had route planning and bookmarks added, but the wonder of zooming into an entire galaxy was there in 1.0, and remains substantially the same today. The same can be said for the flight model: there has been some tinkering, but it was mostly there - and right - at the beginning. Yes, planetary surfaces have been added and heavily altered. Yes, more ships have been added. Yes, there are placeholders. But the core of E
1.0 worked, and is still visible in 2.4.
Yet SC just screams of incompleteness and placeholders. It's almost as if they get something nearly there and then move onto the next shiny thing without ever approaching completeness. And the stuff that is released appears buggy and slow. True, it is an alpha, but it would be good to see some features at gamma-level or above. Something you can look at and think: "Yes, that's finished, and only requires a little fine fettling." I don't get this impression for any of it, even the ships.
Shush! Let them think that.
If (or when, depending on your viewpoint) SC fails, they may all end up playing ED. And that would be a calamity....
Aww... That's a little unkind - I would welcome all Star Citizen backers to ED with opengunportsarms![]()

If they get to grips with the game I'm sure they'll be indistinguishable from anyone else.
We can organise a welcome party at Hutton Orbital![]()
Welp, at least that livestream last night answered one of my biggest questions...
Q:How are they going to handle a Miles Eckhart type mission 'cutscene' in a multiplayer environment, will people have to wait in line? Will they all see him individually?
A: Only one of you can actually see or interact with him.
Proof inside spoilers.

Tbh me and my friends had a great evening with a ton of laughs, was too funny to make up.
Hilariously failing facial expressions, awful space turret combat, glorious physics failures, not a single glimpse of professions or core gameplay mechanics.
Just great.
That's it for me tbh, they really wasted the last chance they had to show me this was someday going to turn into an actual game.
I'm gonna get my 30 bucks out and throw it at Hellblade - Senua's Sacrifice instead, funding some actual game developers making an actual high quality game.
Might still read up here from time to time, but other than that I'll start following the project again if it hasn't dissolved yet by 2020
Special thanks to Roland for providing us with summaries for all these years!
Toodles to the rest of you o7
You wouldn't need to. They'd get erased by station itself for being stupid.
This is not an ED vs SC post or Rant. God knows I have enough time in ED and play SC on the side. These games are not in direct competition, due to the type of game play going on.
In ED, your a ship. In SC your a person with a ship!
In ED, it's about keeping up with the Jones and the dumb @@@ engineers if you want to PVP, in SC, it's more pilot skill (for now).
ED is a single player game that says and makes the player insignificant, while SC gives the feel of something different.
Maybe Im just burnt out on ED, but, your basically a halo avatar, jumping from ship to STV, to multiplayer, etc. for all we know, all pilots are locked on Earth and only telepresence to their ships!
where as, SC makes you feel more into the game. Even though it's not complete, etc!
Ive also noticed many requests to be added to ED, that SC has.
So right, wrong, or different. Two different games, with two different play styles.
I also prefer SC's ships and ability to walk around them. Even if it gets old to most!
Actually it has been proven that in SC you become the ship. This is not an ED vs SC post or Rant. God knows I have enough time in ED and play SC on the side. These games are not in direct competition, due to the type of game play going on.

I think you mean that SC it is more about how much cash you gave to CIG, as it is all about who spent more money in their P2W game.In ED, it's about keeping up with the Jones and the dumb @@@ engineers if you want to PVP, in SC, it's more pilot skill (for now).
ED is an actual MMO.ED is a single player game that says and makes the player insignificant, while SC gives the feel of something different.
Try the game in VR, very different feel. Nothing even comes close to ED in terms of giving you the feeling of flying a space ship.Maybe Im just burnt out on ED, but, your basically a halo avatar, jumping from ship to STV, to multiplayer, etc. for all we know, all pilots are locked on Earth and only telepresence to their ships!
That is true, there is nothing like SC's poor code to make you feel like your char is part of the walls, floors.where as, SC makes you feel more into the game. Even though it's not complete, etc!
Actually SC does not have them, kind of the problem. People compare the dream of SC and the reality of ED.Ive also noticed many requests to be added to ED, that SC has. So right, wrong, or different. Two different games, with two different play styles.

For some reason Neo I found your comment to be the funniest one I've read in ages. (I read it in a Russian accent).
It could be 'cos a Greek friend gave me a bottle of Ouzo and I've sampled it thouroughly - but

Star Citizen development did not start until 2014 (you should be happy with what you have!) https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/6w4d1r/this_needs_to_be_said_again_full_star_citizen/
What you've seen was put together by a very small team over the past year. We felt that this vision needed to be shown rather than talked about so we invested our own money to build the technical and visual prototype that shows just how Star Citizen is going to push the limits of PC games.
Instead of taking this prototype to a publisher for a green light, we are cutting out the middleman and taking it to you.
You as the customer get the ultimate vote in whether we make this game. Your dollars are your votes and the better we do the more resources we’ll have to bring you a great game.
We have investors that have agreed to contribute the balance we need to complete this game as long as we can validate that there is a demand for a high end PC space game. By meeting or surpassing our target on Kickstarter you tell the world that you want a PC based Space Sim and allow us to make this game.
So I watched the presentation live and a few things jumped out at me.
First and probably the most important thing, it crashed on them. This tells me it's an actual in game build, none of the fake stuff done in the past. However if we never gain access to it, it hardly matters.
Two, what's with the bloatware? No one asked for or even wanted this stuff.
Three, 15 fps is unplayable. They had two large ships and a few fighters on a LAN setup and it ground to a stop.
Four, graphically it looks like something from 2013. They've run out of time to release this thing.
