X series

and did they seriously name it x4 foundations? wut? :S

one thing though, it sure has more space sim gameplay than star citizen already :D

Well, hard to judge after only one trailer, it looks like X-Rebirth 1.9 (graphivs looks much better). As a sucker for space legs I will by it in a heart bit. Also - ekhm... David? Another space legs game is out soon....

This alone already made me happy.

Freedom to personally fly all ships:

X4 will allow you to fly all ships personally. From small scouts over a wide range of ship classes up to the biggest carrier, everything can be piloted from the cockpit or an external view. Additionally some drones and utility vehicles in X4 can be remotely controlled by the player.

A big focus in the development of X4 has been to achieve a seamless and immersive experience when moving between ships. You can leave a ship, climb down a ladder, walk over the dock of a large space station into another ship you may have parked there and replace the pilot that was working for you just by clicking on his chair.

I came really late into the X series with 'Rebirth'. I really liked the game, very immersive universe, busy, seemed great. Out flying though, I hit an invisible wall, that sort of put me off playing it much.
But as for the feel of the universe they have, it is very good indeed, not sterile. The player can believe in the environment, which makes a massive difference to me.

Just got to make sure there are no 'walls'..

i owned it for ages but never touched it until recently - i was playing through the campaign, until i reached the point where you need to start building stuff (i'm not real keen on building, but figured i could just fumble through this bit and then continue on as a lone wolf, just a guy and a ship)

unfortunately due to their BGS it can reach a situation where the whole thing halts and it needs the player to kickstart it by creating the necessary supply/demand conditions, and *that* was the part that i stopped at, as i only had a passing knowledge of trading and building. i meant to return to it but haven't yet; the longer i leave it, the less likely that will be

(I'm a long time player of the X series, having played X Beyond the frontier when it was released and played all the sequels except AP and Rebirth)

Positives for me that I noticed in the English presentation :

* Ships are crewed! In X2 I piloted a few large ships and there was no crew, just empty seats.

* Custom player logos! A feature of Beyond the frontier and Xtension that wasn't in the games after that.

* Seamless transition from ship to station to ship again ... but there's still no planetary landing. Egosoft have always stated that it's not possible, and they do know what they are talking about, but I like that they don't have planetary landing on purpose because it allows them to focus on making the game a much better experience for it.

* It looks like they learned from what went wrong with Rebirth, and not just how bad the game was, but also their perception of believing they understood what the players wanted. Egosoft have always listened to their playerbase, probably more than Frontier and CiG/Chris Roberts, yet with Rebirth they thought they got it right and developed a game up to release without showing us anything until it was too late in development to change anything. This time they seem to be showing us content much earlier and that gives them time to make changes based on our responses.

IF (big IF) Egosoft continue to develop the game as they presented (sounds like a stupid thing to say, I know, but the game could change between now and release), then I'm in, buying it pre-order ASAP (I wasn't burned by Rebirth as I only bought it just before they announced the VR version) and I'm throwing my money at the monitor now ...

BUT ...

If it develops too far to a game I don't think I'll like, then I will be holding back.

I want this to be their best game ever, heck THE best space sim game ever ... I just hope they deliver.

Players should take note of the new map interface, that in itself is a huge leap forward not only for X Universe but space sims in general.

What I really like is how Egosoft is taking X in a different direction to Frontier, CCP and CIG specifically being able to build an empire from nothing, to trade and running an economy as well as conduct combat as a pilot or with an entire fleet.

The effectiveness of AI will probably be the biggest gamble, this time more than ever for Egosoft, but I can surely say that I liked what I saw so far, and I liked it a lot. That map alone is a dream almost come true for any long time X player (hi BigBANGtheory, they seem to have acknowledged your years of efforts in promoting that kind of RTS-style interface after all! :p)

I'm a bit scared by the claims about a fully dynamic economy with no sinks, that's an extremely tricky feat to achive, no wonder it has never been really achieved before (and many times the galaxy economy grinded to a halt even with sinks in place to try to avoid it)...in the end, even more than other technical aspects like graphics, animations and awful NPCs' (it's everything still in alpha, but I wouldn't count on them changing very much), I think that all aspects AI related such as ships and fleets movements, ability to react to commands and general management of the economy are where X4 will make it or break it.

I'll wait hopeful. :)

X: Rebirth changed the scale downwards to more details yes it has it flaws but the entire econemy in the background was rather impressive and the problems you could cause destroying a freighter or seeing shipyards grinding to a halt because they didnt got their supplies to build. The details were rather astonishing.

Seems like they build on to it. Just like X:Beyond the Frontier to Xtended they Xpand the sandbox thats nice. Egosoft and the X-Series will always have a special place in my heart even after X:Rebirth.
And i cant deny that they worked hard to fix it.

The map is very interesting, its hilarious seeing a Alpha footage with core gameplay being shown while just having witnessing SC presentation...

Taking questions ect...i just cant "hate" Egosoft. They try to do good, and yes they are expanding it further from X:Rebirth cant wait what a behemoth comes out of it.

We can fly all ships again? Count me in.

The most satisfying thing about X3 for me was — after working my way up through several ships. Being attacked by pirates left and right... then one day when I had my own Osaka class Destroyer and a couple of support ships, I obliterated two pirate systems as revenge for the misery they gave me. :D

The only thing I never liked about the X series, was/is the absurdly slow speeds of the ships.
No wonder the Springblossom quickly became my favorite to travel with - but my goodness that thing was unbalanced, since they didn't change any of the other ships.

Biggest thing I took from the presentation is that they are trying to make this game better than X:R in lots of ways. So I will be keeping a close eye on how it develops. For what it is worth I wish them luck with X4. At the end of the day though, with regards to the games industry anyways, you make your own luck. ;)

I just loved the completely random things that would happen. The thing that the x series (all of the x series) would do well is make you feel like you were part of a living breathing universe. There were literally hundreds of ships in most areas, pirates turning up to mess with your day, rivalling factions rolling over your sector, wars. If you sold a product to a station their demand would go down consequently so would your profit margin. Buy products and their price goes up, keep stations well stocked they produce more and sell for less. All the time other traders are doing the same.

An epic game.

I hope Egosoft guys were closely looking at SC failures and ED development and trying to hit safe middle spot between epic spaceflight and space-legs game play. My patience with RSI is literally over and I am ell aware that ED space legs are almost not on the horizon, would love to have third option here with immersive space pilot experience. They have a epic chance to grab lots of new players with X4.

I really liked X3, but also found the game lacked challenge from the point you could automate everything and just sit there while your NPCs were making the money.

What I like and am excited about X4 Foundations:

- different layers for clouds, sea, land, etc. on planets;
- seamless exit/entry of ships to/from stations;
- able to purchase/fly all ships again ;)

There is no release date yet :S

If Frontier and Egosoft are willing to share their development efforst, both games can excel much further ...
