To have that number unfilled for a project of this size is not common practice. I know because I asked someone who knows about 6 months ago and they said as much. 6 months later they still have a large number of place unfilled. Word gets around, quickly.

Especially if people are unsure they'll get paid.

What do you think "Core Support for installing multiple games" means? I never really paid attention to that line before. Presumably they mean the difference between SC/SQ42.

My guess?
Arena Commander
Star Marine
Race module
Planetary Module
PU

so the "testbed modules" are now designated as individual "games" thats rich and also ties very nicely in the MVP theory where CR releases whatever he has as "finished" and walks away

I don't see the embarrassment at all. It's not like having both a female and male character with the quality, quantity and range of animations CIG is aiming can be considered an easy task. I mean Assassins Creed Unity cut off it's female avatar completely because of how much work it would take them for example.

Oh come on now - it looked totally ridiculous!!!! Nobody's saying it's an easy task (although CiG are making it harder on themselves because they want to use mocap for stuff which frankly doesn't require it), but what was presented was awful. Mass Effect awful, and then some.

If they'd turned off the face-ache stuff, and just run the mission like normal players without the pathetic (and it was pathetic) dialog (heck, my 8 & 11 year olds who play minecraft over the net don't even indulge in such purile comms chatter!), then I would have been far more understanding of the crash and subsequent replay of the scripted level.

But they padded out a poor demo with a poor feature they thought would pull the wool over peoples eyes and everyone (who hasn't been around gaming/TrackIR/cams before) would think "oh it doesn't matter that the demo is horribly bugged, because this face stuff is so absolutely amazing, I don't care".

The face/avatar stuff was absolutely pathetic, and the worst thing about the whole horrible experience imho.

That would be the list of separate, individual, fully working and implemented systems that Jared referred to on the live streams that stop working the moment you jam them together.

Geez, i need to stop following this thread. It's depressing. :(
Not because of the paltry sum i lost, but because it's disappointing to see how a game with so much potential has been so horrendously mismanaged.
Even after last years gamescom I still thought that there would eventually be a game, it would just be a good while longer than anyone expected.
But after seeing some of the video from this years presentation. I'm convinced CR had driven this into a hole that there's no coming out of.

I guess the one good thing about SC is the idea of it has helped revitalize the space game genre. So hopefully the future is bright in that respect.

During the final presentation I was willing that thing up the ramp. Lord knows how CR was feeling when that thing was crushed under the Idris ramp. I guess that was what happened as it was difficult to see through all the volumetric sand that was kicked up by the thrusters. I wonder if the Ursa damage was baked in or procedural though? The lone wheel wobbling away looked a little odd.

Erin makes Lego games QED...

good question.

using median salary values from 2014 for game developers we first got 78 million in wages but had to recalculate since the median wages were actually lower for CIG in 2016 at least.

That said, they are having around 20 million in wages for 400 people now since 2016 (5800/month instead of the 6800+ in my first calculation) so im guessing 2-3 years at most if they keep a full staff depending on how much cash they have.
Does that include corporate taxes, corporate fees, fixed and liquid costs, other fees and costs, material, travel, cost of equipment and software, licenses, etc? There's more to it than just gross income and salaries to a company's bottom line. You probably have more like 2 or 3 times more than the sum of the salaries. And besides, 5800 x 12 (a year) x 400 is almost 28 mil, not 20. It wouldn't surprise me if their cost to run the biz is around 70-80 mil / year currently.

Has it? I find it quite surprising that no major publisher has jumped on the train and announced a next Wing Commander (EA), X-Wing vs Tie Fighter (Disney), or a game in the Battlestar Universe (that is not F2P), or even something new - but with focus on space sim. There are only Indy projects and ED.

not going to happen, as I said similarly before, the majority on this generation couldn't grasp the vehicle based sim games. I can imagine the big studio execs would went [noob] and making some weirdo faces when someone presented a vehicle sim game concept to them :D they simply cannot see the appeal of such concept for games and reject it... with good reason of course since practically the analysts and marketers would also say the same, and as is the majority of the market.

Which probably explains the hype around SC (1st person universe) in contrast to the niche existence of ED and the others. Hence my question, i don't think the space sim genre has been revived, not really, not more than the crpg genre by Kickstarter and inXile/Obsidian/HBS/Larian. The "vision" by CR is simply not feasible, definitely not in a one step process. Maybe if Rockstar stated a Space-GTA IP it would approach "the vision" with Space-GTA 4.

As I see it the original vision of the game was ambitious, technically challenging, but achievable with the right team and so did have potential.

The current vision, with insane stretch goals piled upon stretch goals, doesn't have any potential because it is simply not achievable in the real world. Even with the best management in the world they would probably be struggling (on the other hand, with good management they would probably have released something that is worth playing even if it was nowhere near the vision).

Or if it was, with the feature set promised, you would be looking at an already released game plus several years worth of DLC/expansions.

More importantly it is not clear if it would be fun.
