missing Decals in VR

So after having a mess around with my graphics settings (still cannot get above 45 FPS on anything other than VR Low. Specs Below) whilst I was docked I had a look around and noticed that the decals are missing on my ship. This is when I am sitting in the cockpit and looking left and right. I am in an AspX and its the front left/right that are not visible. Also, if anyone else can confirm this then the 'Thermal Intake' sign which is directly underneath is not visible either.

External view is fine though.

I also noticed that the front decals on AspX can't be seen from inside the cockpit, but are visible using the external cameras. I'm out of the bubble now in a Type 9, so can't confirm the "Thermal Intake" labels showing up or not.

I can't remember if they were visible from the cockpit in 2D or not, might be worth a quick check.

My system is set to VR High with some tweaks.

I've noticed that the current iteration of "space legs" is a bit bare bones at the moment. Last time I really looked, many ships were misding their hardpoint bay hatches, there are no corridors behind the doors at in our cockpits, and many of the surface features of our ships are literally skin deep.

Given that space legs are probably years away, I'm surprised Frontier gas this much if our ships visible in VR. First time I got up and looked outside the window, I was surprised the cockpit wasn't just a plywood set, and there was stuff to see outside. :)

The view out of cockpit is still different to the external view.
In an Anaconda you can't see decals too and also no hardpoint doors. The same goes for the Asp, from inside the cockpit you can't see the decals.

I bet, if we would have ship kits that are visible from inside of the cockpit, we wouldn't see them too

Having got a rift lately, it is truly immersive if a bit lacking in the graphic fidelity side due to pixel density limitations. Its best not to render such places outside your ship to a very high degree, as this would only serve to increase the GPU load for something not generally visible in VR. It may be about maximising performance for a vr comfortable experience.

Forget the decals, why aren't you able to get 90 fps on anything above low? Are you messing with the debug tool? Is it time for a Windows reinstall? That doesn't sound right on that machine.

Yeah, totally agree, those specs should do 90fps easy. I can get 90fps on a 1060 with an older CPU...something isn't right with OP's setup.

I was going to do a windows reinstall over the weekend but I could not find the flash drive with my copy of win10 on it. I looked everywhere but to no avail. I thought I found it only for it to have some music on that I don't even know I copied over to it. The drives are lost along with a Christmas present off my Muvver n Pops (Ltd Edition Star Wars tin box with a T-Shirt in). I is not 'appy.

Just use the win 10 download/installer tool and tell it to use the drive you found.
It will download the files needed, format the drive to be bootable.
This new build will also include a bunch of patches and updates so unlike when using an old image you won't have to spend hours updating windows.

Oh, interesting. Will that work because the product key is embedded in hardware now?

I just did it this weekend, my original key was for my win 8 license.
When they asked for the key just click "activate later" or whatever.

It was activated fully when I checked later.

Your key gets associated to your MS account, so if you wipe and reinstall then login to the new build with your MS ID it should just reactivate itself without you doing anything further. There are some slight caveats around this entitlement if you are changing hardware (like motherboard) as part of the process I believe, but it seems much more flexible/easier than it used to be.

It's mostly hardware based.

I never even made a Microsoft ID, let alone log in with one.
It is rather flexible, I think it's not so much what you swap out, but how much at any given time.

Since I first activated my win 8 key I have upgraded it to win 10, swapped gpu twice, mother board.
Upgraded CPU and RAM, then finally GPU again, All done with time between each upgrade.

Never had a problem with the key failing activation.

What you are describing is the older activation process (Pre Windows 10), as long as you don't upgrade all the hardware at the same time, it would normally simply re-activate with the existing key. If you were to completely re-install, ie wipe and start again, you'd be stuffed unless you have the actual product key available to type in.

Whereas Windows 10 preferred method seems to be to use your MS account and it links your license to that. If I go into Activation section on my Windows 10 is says it is activated with a digital license linked to my MS account, I didn't need to type in a product key at all during a recent reinstall. Agreed, there is a hardware element to it, in that replacing certain items will cause the machine to need re-activation, but that also depends on the license used in the first place. I believe a retail license will normally be fine with motherboard change, but an OEM license will typically trip at a motherboard change as the license was tied to the original machine. Though TBH, a quick call with MS customer support would likely get you reactivated in short order.

Drifted somewhat off topic...apologies. :)

Asynchronous space warp does this.
Huh, ASW does what in my statement?

I know that ASW must be kicking in for the OP, as he is reporting 45FPS which is what you get when ASW kicks in. My point was, he shouldn't be getting ASW kicking in (ie dropping below 90fps) with his spec, when I can hit 90FPS with my spec - which is lower.

Oops! looks like I quoted the wrong post!

I think it happens if ASW is always on. I'm given to understand that the latest versions of SteamVR will kick in with ASW automatically; actually selecting it turns it on all the time.

That makes some sense.

Personally I use EDprofiler and launch the game manually, if I see SteamVR try to launch itself (which it does as the game launches, I just close it), so only get ASW kicking in when the frame rate dips below 90.
