Star Citizen: Gamescom 2017 Live Demo (High Quality)

Impossible - CR himself in the German interview said they have it blocked out (i.e. without textures, just layout of the levels) only, and couldn't even commit to saying they had a single mission done. With all the mocap etc, there's no way they'll have real progress on that within 2 months. Not a chance.
This is the New Truth: only idiots, Smarties and people with no clue about game development expected to see Sq42 at Gamescon because any fule kno's Gamescon is about SC and Citizencon is about Sq42 - so it shall be, so it is, and so it has always been - ALWAYS I TELL YOU ALWAYS.

Which is, of course, madness. I see no reason to contest this at all, just let them at it and see what turns up at Citizencon. If, as seems 100% likely, it's not about Sq42 then maybe some of their faux authority will crumble.

The SRV looks so much cooler than that vehicle.

At least they've put a decent windscreen on it unlike a lot of their spaceships which have horrendous fields of view with additional view-blocking struts just in case you want to see where you're going.

Yes you can still get a refund. No Terms of Service can override consumer protection laws.

This. They will give out refunds no questions asked. Just provide them with all your account details and request a full refund. They don't take super long to process it either. CIGs change of Terms of Service that said you couldn't get a refund was overturned by officials (aka the government - I think it was in the US? I don't have a source sorry). So basically, it was overridden.

My favourite scene from the gamescom presentation:

5 years of development (1 year, sorry. It took them 4 years to settle down building offices and manpower) and $158M...

And just take a look at these beautiful smiles on their website...

:)

I do like the idea of that facerig software but I think the novelty would wear off pretty quickly. It has no place in SQ42 whatsoever, unless they are developing co-op functionality, so aimed squarely at those that wish to gurn at random people on the Internet as well as friends. But once you've done that a few times that $200 facecam you bought is a bit of a white elephant.

My puny guess...

Remember crysis 2 tesselation bug/issue for amd gpu? The engine over tesselated everything even beyond what you can see on screen...

Now consider these high fidelity ships with all their interiors that, by the design of this game, contain high fidelity... Well.. Everything, from polygons, geometries, lighting, shadowing and other rendering stuffs... Maybe the engine was doing the same thing as what happened with crysis 2, over rendering everything beyond what the main camera can see... That's still not counting the multiple physics grids, how many of them exist on an idris?

I have thought this would happen since years ago... This game is a clusterf of fidelity from rendering and physics system point of view.

so the "testbed modules" are now designated as individual "games" thats rich and also ties very nicely in the MVP theory where CR releases whatever he has as "finished" and walks away

CR said as much in his recent interview. The guy asked why they didn't just work on 1.0 release (finished game) and Croberts said something like "If you back SC now you can download 2.6.3" so the game is released already. Not a pre-alpha. "We give you whatever we have as soon as it's ready" not exactly quoting but you see the false equivalence happening

Either its "we give you whatever we have as soon as its ready" or "I will never hesitate to delay content if I feel its not good enough". Cant have it both. To be clear I am with you on the "as soon as its ready" thats why I believe that CiG has nothing. They showed us all they got and they blew their chance, dropped their pants in full public view and got laughed off the stage.

Don't you see? CIG has 500+ employees that'll end up playing each NPC you'll encounter while you'll play through SQ42's living, breathing, cinematic, never done before experience. GC2017 show's live actors performance was just a glimpse of what's to come.

What if you're right? What if part of the delay is motion-capturing all their employees to use in-game as NPCs and utilising fidelicious levels of FOIP in the process with which to woo the whales?
This project is so I wouldn't put it past Chris "Don't Show the Loading Screen" Roberts to insist that each and every NPC is hand-crafted in the likeness of a CIG employee.

Buy an Idris!

Dunno... I saw them blow up real easy during the demo. I'd advise buying two, just in case...

I haven't beeen following SC for several months now and want to get a quick update as the state of the game. This time, I would like to bypass the marketing, the total fan boy reviews and the complete hater reviews and find a review/writeup that is truly objective. Rep for commanders who succeed in directing me to objective sources of an SC update!

Since I'm contemplating finally buying into the SC game world in a small way. I'll also give rep for constructive suggestions on what ship package might be best and why. I'll probably buy in with a package which entitles me to SQ42 if/when I do.

Thanks

A tall order there, Chief.

Game is still in alpha. 2.6.3 is the public build.
2.7 was morphed into 3.0, some of which was demoed at Gamescom
Latest possible but don't hold them to it completion date for 3.0 is October, right around Citizencon

Fans see steady improvements, Detractors can't stop laughing

Everyone gets an Idris! (Sorry went all Oprah there for a moment...)

An objective source? You must be new... :D

This sums it up quite nicely: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBxMPqxJGqI

Genuinely zero progress.

3.0 demo at gamescon appeared to be just a single planet with no way to leave or visit others, October release date.

Buy the absolute minimum package to reduce sunk cost fallacy - or just wait and see what happens which is even better advice. Current expected release according to the fans is 2022

No. Just hopeful! ;) +rep for the MP LOL

+Rep for the very nice summary!

You guys were so quick to respond that you caught me while editing. Here's my second question:
