Taking an FDL...to Beagle Point!

Yes, I'm insane! But so far this journey has been quite the interesting one! I've made it a good portion of the way there and as of today there is 27.8k ly left to go, so I figured it was time to share the journey a bit more! Its all for charity, afterall. Specifically, Special Effect. [smile]

If you want to drop in and see whats up, I'll be streaming some today before (and after) CMDR Plater and I do Zen Cast, and hoping to finish up the trip tomorrow!

Wow... I could never get my FDL to go much over 20LY per jump.... even engineered... What's your jumprange?

+rep for you sir!

How are you set-up? I'm trying to figure out if it's even possible to reach BP with an FdL.

Welcome to the club, as I've got the honour to fly the first FDL to BP - the journey in pictures can be found here. :)

I don't know your jumprange, mine was 24ly, which is now 26ly with further optimization, but I did add 4A shields to be safe and 5A dd thrusters (only grade 3 at the time, now it is grade 5 already) to enjoy those planetary flights.
I also had an oversized powerplant believing it helps with heat control - I'm better educated now.

There are routes for the final 30 jumps or so, it's worth to check them out as stars are truly sparse out there.

The lengths some people are willing to go to just to gank others! :p

Great stuff, though. [up]

I was thinking of doing something similar, either in a Vulture or a Corvette.
The way I see it, as long as you've got the biggest possible fuel-scoop, that's all that really matters.
It doesn't matter if you're jumping 20Ly or 80Ly. That's all the same.
It's the delays while scooping which are soul-destroying.

My range as engineered and outfitted right now is 30.44ly :D I stocked up enough mats for 35 premium injections though, just in case.

And the 5A scoop makes short work of refuels, but 8t of fuel doesn't go very far regardless! haha

All in all its been a helluva journey, and its not over yet! Second part of today's stream is delayed a bit because I live two blocks from a stadium and it happens to be game night..... mic would be naught but Stadium Announcer noises haha!

This is a link to the Coriolis build, for those who want to see how I fitted it: https://eddp.co/u/9sXMpuaY

That's pretty interesting. I've never considered building an FdL like that. That's almost the same as an Anaconda I took to BP and back pre engineers. Safe journeys my friend!

Appreciated!

Its not a build I would've done normally, but the challenge was set and thats what I came up with. xD So far it seems to work decently well. Even landed on a 3G planet without taking any damage :D

Is the FDL your only ship or something? Why choose that?

Probably for style points, but FdLs and Vettes have already made it to Beagle Point, as well as circumnavigated the galaxy iirc.

Does handle pretty well though for exploration, and it's got a great view while flying around both in space and on planets. It's a fun ship to fly, so that's reason enough imo. ;)

Sometimes, people just do things for this thing called "fun"... may be a concept unfamiliar to you. Not everybody does things in the most efficient manner that has the best return-on-investment.

For example, I routinely fly ships in Buckyball Races wholly unsuited for the course.... just to see how it'd fare. I'd usually be the ONLY Vulture, or Adder, or T7 in the whole race, where everyone else is in an Annie or an Asp trying to get to the top of the boards.

I also have flown a Viper out for "exploration" too... came back with about 60-70 million in data after selling. Didn't go very far, only about 19,000 LY out before returning.
