Until today, my "exploration" has been little more than jumping from star to star, gathering data, and occasionally taking pretty pictures of some gas giant with rings, then returning to the bubble to sell data.
But about 2 weeks ago, while on a long trip, I was searching around for anything interesting in the galaxy map. In particular, I was hoping to find a smallish nebula to explore on the far side of the core, hoping that one farther out like that would have a greater chance of being "virgin", that is to say, untagged.
I couldn't see many on that side, if at all, unlike the near side, which has many, but most are already at least partially tagged.
SO I tried zooming in more, in hopes of finding smaller and smaller nebulae, when I found a little gem. A TINY nebula, with only a neutron star within it. And it was in an....obscure location. One I doubted many, if any at all, would bother to go to. So I bookmarked it. It was a LOOOOONG way out, and I wanted a better fsd first. So after about 2 weeks, I made it back to the bubble, engineered my fsd (got lucky AS ****! Only enough mats for 3 rolls, and I got a VERY good roll on the first attempt), and promptly set out. And boy, did my new fsd get me there QUICK. Only took me about 14 hours of travel time. As I got closer and closer I was getting REALLY excited. Like, I could feel it in my CHEST excited. I just KNEW it would be unexplored. As I got within 10000 Ly of the star, I stopped seeing ANY player discovered tags whatsoever, which only heightened my excitement.
When I finally got there, I was treated with an AMAZING view, and sure enough, I was the first to see it. NOBODY would have just "passed through" THIS system. They would have tagged it for sure. I wont reveal its location just yet (gotta get the data back first). But I will share with you all some beautiful pictures.
Enjoy;
A few hundred Lys out, the nebula appears visible as a hazy blue gem:

The nebula viewed from a neighboring star, less than 50ly away:

I have decided to call it the "Dragonfly Nebula", due to its shape resembling the eyes of a dragonfly...
Today, I finally feel like I am ACTUALLY exploring in this game.

*update:
Well, I'm back in bubble, and the cash I got from this expedition earned me enough money and then some to finally buy me my exploraconda, and outfit it. Now it just needs some engineering. And since I safely returned the data, and my name is secured to the system, I will post this little gem's address. Still room for one more name there!
