Based on past expirience, I am counting on the "Thargoid threat" to be Youtube set pieces and new Combat Zones. The Beta didn't add or hint at new mechanics, and frankly if they have added new mechanics I am terrified to think how they're going to function with absolutely no beta testing...

Based on past expirience, I am counting on the "Thargoid threat" to be Youtube set pieces and new Combat Zones. The Beta didn't add or hint at new mechanics, and frankly if they have added new mechanics I am terrified to think how they're going to function with absolutely no beta testing...

there was once a time when games were made internally, and tested with nary a public beta test in sight... look you may be right and 2.4 will offer nothing not seen so far in beta aside from set pieces and a new CZ...
but i guess i am trying to be optimistic.
but imo just because FD have not shown all their secrets for 2.4 does NOT necessarily mean the content will be sparse to non existant, or totally untested and bugged to hell.
Of course, it could be a complete surprise. The past few years just hasn't filled me with confidence!

Maybe because Thargoids, a core element of the series, finally return? That seems pretty big, unless you are the kind of person who always complains and whines about everything.

With a stonewall of silence instead of communication, and the full shape of Horizons updates bar 2.4 which we know nothing of besides"omg thargoids", we're all on equal footing when it comes to speculation. And it is much better than to get your hopes up only to be beaten into the ground with reality.
Like said I yearn to be proven wrong by FDev, I really do.

Just an observation: all like minded posters close their comments, that "they want Elite to succeed", and that they are posting with best intentions. Yet whatever FDev will do, it is never enough.
Of course. The nature of a Thargoid attack is to hyperdict you. I am sure this is what will happen (and more), this time it is not a scripted show.

So there will be rebadged Thargoid CZs? *groan* And if we get random interdictions as the other part of this epic Thargoid invasion, my nightmare that's being brewing for around two years will be totally and utterly complete...
That isnt even what he said. But still, your nightmare is that Thargoids exist either at a fixed location or not at a fixed location? Yeah, at least one of them will probably happen.

No, my nightmare is, given two years leading to the first time we meet the Thargoids like this in the game, the sum total of the mechanics put into place will be akin to random interdictions and rebadged CZs.
I was expecting over the past year+ to see more involved combat scenarios and other related mechanics not only to move the core game experience forwards, but also to be leveraged when the Thargoids got involved...
The next couple of months will be interesting/telling.

As for the observation why horizons doesn't satisfy my expectations, I simply don't like to be fooled. That is not a two year project unless this very update is groundbreaking in many ways. I just summed up the plausible facts, and hope history doesn't repeat itself. The fact I am still here proves that I do care; I do have expectations regarding game direction though. Like said, fexpo will make it or break it for me.

To be honest, I think it will for a lot of people. We shall see.
I doubt it. Let me grab my crystal ball:
2.4 will be disappointing to the people who are generally disappointed. 2.4 will be great fun to those who actually like ED. A bunch of people will claim this or that is make-or-break for them, yet you will find all of them still complaining no matter what happens afterwards. As with every patch, every time.
