Evacuation Community Goal

With the Thargoids making a return would the community goal system be able to do a reverse CG, we evacuate refugees away from a system. Against the clock and under attack by the invading Thargoids. Just a question really. Could be interesting game play.

Fight? You understand the concept of peace, right? You sure you want to evacuate this sector of the galaxy? OK, bye then... Zergjack! You told me this race was intelligent. ?"

Technically, it could be quite possible.

Maybe have a new option under contacts called "Emergency Services" where you can load up all available seats with refugees, from all effected stations in a system.

And offload them at the target CG station in another system, using the same menu.

...?

Could even add a new 'bulk passenger cabin' which holds twice as much as economy, but only refugees (,prisoners, and slaves?) can go in them.

Well it is just an idea to use peoples Shiny Passenger ships or cabin fitted ships in a CG. If passengers numbers can equal commodities and the CG system was tweaked to show these numbers if possible it could add to game play. The combat bond guys would still claim Thargoid combat bonds in their half of the CG.

Only an idea.

I approve! You could even take it a step further have have conflict zones at the stations between Thargoids and System defense forces that you'd have to brave to make a daring rescue.

+1

I'm well in favour of more humanitarian missions in this game (and others). It makes a refreshing change to be a bit of a hero without having to kill someone or trash something. :)

Likewise, CGs for passengers would be awesome. Massive humanitarian aid... Transporting aid workers and supplies in, and refugees out to another destination. I can see parallel goals for these. Even a third for pew pew as a defense escort. Also more supplies for refugee camps...

Awesome idea... Moving refugees, supplying water and prefab building materials, food, clothing and medical supplies... There was a thread a while back suggesting CGs and missions for natural disasters like Supernovae, which would actually echo a mission in the original 8-bit Elite :)

I'd definitely be up for doing something like that :)

Yeah, I like the idea, especially since a type of cabin with more capacity is easy to steal from real life, like the fold down troop seats in a military helicopter:

I'd visualize one of those carrying 50%-100% more capacity than an equivalent economy cabin, because it's just a fold down bench you're sharing with dozens of your closest friends.

I've seen it suggested elsewhere, but you could have a CG where you have to evac civilians from a station or planetary base that's currently under siege, so you either need a ship that's fast, tough, or good at silent running in order to break through the blockade, pick up your passengers, then get out the same way to take them to a safe haven. Or you could do it the opposite way, where you pick up troops at a secure base, then drop them off at a base currently under a siege. Or drop in supplies like the Berlin Airlift. Whole range of options.

See, I had thought of outfitting a Keelback as a military transport, with cabin space to fit a squad of troops to drop off and a hangar for a fighter escort. Doesn't really seem to be any missions for the role I envisage for it though.

Hello, Mr Jones. :)

Top idea. +1. It might also be interesting to see the effects of mass-hysteria about such things: I envisage huge numbers of overpaying passengers suddenly - if, perhaps, briefly - flooding the mission boards, while every other form of trade and industry dries up to nothing, until the panic's over. Followed by liberal amounts of money being thrown at restoring the former status quo, once the NPCs realise nothing's actually going to happen and they all have to return to their former lives.

As I said earlier I like this idea. But I can't help but wonder, at least in Open, what some elements will do here.

Chief

Heh. I don't think we need to wonder. Suggestion: normal bounties - but add a 10 million credit fine, for every kill in an Emergency Evacuation state system, regardless of the reason.
