Docking Fails and Successes

So how about something nice a light for a Saturday afternoon? As I do a reasonable amount of racing with the Buckyball Racing Club I have had my fair share of amazing and not so amazing docking moments. The biggest problem is that I can't play the game any other way now :D

No more can I fly towards a destination in SC with just 0:06 on the clock. No more can I fly into and out of a station without boosting.

And the consequence? Quite a few amusing videos and a few which I'm quite proud of. So I thought it was time to have a nice entertaining thread where people could share their own and laugh or gawp in wonder at others.

I thought I'd start off by sharing one of each for you. Apologies for the quality of the first video, it was the first time I'd used OBS ;)

Reckless flying :S What's that? :p

That is a perfect example of lithobraking (not even I expected it to work that well), another thing I find it impossible not to do now, and the reason I love the T-6. She is perfect for it.

I'd certainly take the bill with glee, if that sort of thing happened!

Done that with both my FdL and Python (especially when Seeking Luxeries were in and I found an outpost in the system.) Didn't do that with the Anaconda. I knew many CMDRs who clipped the bottom on the letterbox and went boom. Kill your speed, not your credits!

Also done the reverse before too.

My tutorial on how to land at a planetary outpost whilst wanted with wanted passengers.... I call it the "Brace for Impact" manoeuvre although I think someone may have already coined it as "The bellyflop"
Don't mind the audio, I had a livestream podcast type thing on a 2nd monitor. Zero punctuation aftershow if anyone is interested.

I have a few versions where it went less well, sadly not caught on video although lets just say it involves more than just a few disgruntled passengers after either loosing 50% hull or getting scanned.... Or on one painful occasion, both...

Was the second one also made with OBS? I never got something halfway acceptable from it, so if it actually was, care to share some insider tricks or an useful link perhaps? Cause the second one looks really good and I'm still looking for a free replacement for Nvidia's Shadow Play.

Yeah it was, I'd worked out some better setting for the encoding and managed to set the bitrate to a reasonable level by then. If I need to clip the videos I use Camtasia, it doesn't have too much effect on the overall quality though.

Awesome videos OP - I thought it was just me who had a fascination/obsession with hitting the boost button when around stations - I haven't left one normally in probably over a year now - have to depart at ridiculous accelerating speeds if possible!! I don't have any videos sadly, but people have witnessed and normally get really hacked off, especially when I come tearing past them in the mailslot [python = me] and often hit them causing a fine! I did hit an NPC the other day just outside the mailslot as I turn and boost away, which died, but at least I know it was my fault that I met the rebuy screen lol!!

Hahaha, I'd not seen that first video before that's brilliant, really just turned on the magnets there. You can tell it must be an early one of your videos as you only boosted once on approach to the station :D

The thing I like about Outposts is to me they're still quite tricky to work out where the pads are going to be, but the upside is that they lend themselves to some more stylish landings, even when I'm not racing. Especially if you can spot you landing pad early enough and then you just turn off the targeting computer and use the force :cool:

Hehe there's some brilliant ones there, especially Viper Gymnastics and Crash Through Landing :D For some reason though the first 3 don't seem to have audio.

I had to congratulate a Cutter CMDR today for his successful but very tense landing. He was running shieldless and docked very carefully with only 3% hull. I had to stop and watch, it was rather nail biting, haha
