Is their currently any way to get rid of a Dormant bounty?

Title kind of says it.

I've searched the forums. Spent 3 hours last night getting scanned and killed in a Sidewinder. I got a CMDR to scan me but he said I wasn't wanted so he couldn't shoot me. The bounty is from Chapterhouse of the Inquisition so I can't complete the current CG while I have it. I was in solo mode when I got it so I know I didn't kill a commander.

On a side note, I think what happened was a joined in to kill a Chapterhouse of the Inquisition pilot that was wanted. I checked several times that he was wanted. Why would that be a crime? Pilots only show up as wanted in systems where the bounty is valid. So why would a faction post a bounty on someone they don't want bounty hunters to shoot at?

They were using a KWS on you, not just scanning you, right? There is a difference.

If you KWS someone and they go wanted, they CAN be not-wanted in the system you're in. This will inflict a bounty on YOU for killing them, even as you claim a bounty for their death. Because law enforcement reasons.

I assume he did. I didn't actually confirm it. I did tell him it was a dormant bounty. He was in an FAS so I thought he had the experience to know about a KWS.

Do I need to be in a system controlled by Chapterhouse to get the bounty lifted when I get killed? I logged in this morning and I find myself on the other side of the bubble (LHS 3447) in a free sidewinder. Not sure how that happened.

I'm not sure if this works for dormant bounties, but in general, to get rid of a bounty placed on you by a minor faction that's located in a system you're not currently in or one you may not currently be welcome in, look for any inhabited low-security systems. Those will have something on the Contacts board of a station called Interstellar Factors. You can pay off your outstanding bounties that way, for an additional fee overlaid on top of the bounty fee.

Yeah, you're going to have to wait. I had a 6800 credit bounty on me for 4 days for destroying some Skimmers that were guarding a Barnacle, and had to wait to pay it off. But then every bounty hunter in a 200 ly radius wanted a piece of me for 6800 credits until I could get it paid off.

I wish I wish I had a bunch of bounty hunters on my tail. It's pretty hard to get the NPC to even scan me. After hours of searching I've only run into 2 players, and neither one would shoot me. It's almost funny.

Even if I do need to just wait it out, I'd like an answer to why what I did is illegal.

Edit: BTW I am currently hanging around Kremainn. If any one with a KWS is near by and would like to shoot me.

Why does a dormant bounty stop you doing the CG? It's dormant, so unless you break the law again...

Maybe this will give clues:

As I understand it, if I shoot at someone that's not wanted, the bounty becomes active. if I then go back to Kamadhenu, and find a player to shoot me, would that end the bounty?

I had a dormant bounty for a week after skimmer rained on me, I couldn't find any way to remove it and had to wait it out, the same for being destroyed by the station for pad loitering.

It seems really unfair that even after death (and at a cost of 21m credits I might add) for a minor offence having a dormant bounty on your head for a week. Lucky it was only my supply station and not the CG station or I would have been in the same boat as the OP.

No one has explained why shooting someone that clearly said "Wanted" with the name of the systems controlling faction below it would give me a bounty.

So if you're scanned with a dormant bounty it doesn't become active again? Only if you commit a crime? What about minor infraction, one that would normally yield a fine. Does that make bounty active again?

@OP: die and respawn at a station controlled by the faction that issued your bounty and the bounty will be gone (it is added to your rebuy).

Noone explained it because it doesnt happen unless you encountered a bug.

If you're scanned by a police ship from the polity issuing the bounty, the dormant bounty will become active again.

The first thing I did, while the bounty was still active, jump out and then into a different system controlled by the same faction. I was listed as wanted. I went up to the station asked to dock, then stopped in the mail slot until the station scanned, and destroyed me. do I need to re-spawn at the same station? I haven't tried that.

I guess my only hope is to go back and repeat the process while recording video.

The only other thing I can think of is that I have a couple of turrets set to Fire On Demand. They are only suppose to fire on a ship that is attacking me. IS there any time that they could return fire on an attacking ship and cause me to get a bounty? If I target a wanted ship but I hit a ship that flies into my line of fire should that get me a bounty. I have 3 Class 3 beams so it is possible I could destroy a small, already damaged ship with a stray shot.

I really wish the bounty gave me more information to go on.

Dormat bounties as I understand them are just flat out dumb. I'm practically banned (7 days) from the system I need to go to in order to get my next Empire rank. I've tried the sidewinder trick and didn't work. Done ranting lol

Edit: Mind you it's only 400cr. My mission was to kill 6 smuggler ships and a stray bullet must have hit a civilian or I rammed by mistake

He needs to attack you in the system in which you are wanted to avoid becoming wanted himself.

Though you could gently tap him with your weapons after he has KWS scanned you, that will make you wanted in his system & allow him to kill you & claim your bounty without repercussions.

Took 2 hours but found a trick that worked. Land at an outpost that's controlled by the faction that issued the dormant bounty then self destruct. Admit-tingly I was just looking for a way to give the finger to them but it removed that stupid bounty lol. One of the most irritating parts of the Bounty system IMO.

Are you sure it's gone. I thought that dormant bounties don't get removed unless you get them reactivated before you suicide.
