Yea it was, I used to fly with this logo on the side of my ship in the first game. :cool:

Whish Elite wasn't so damn forced kindergarden friendly and let us use our own logos, too. Instead they sell bloody micro transacted stuff.

Very personal. (Edit: Not that I mind them selling stuff. What I find poor is the lack of options to use our own logos.)

I'd like Frontier to have an item in the store, you can add a custom logo to a single ship for £1 ... logo must conform to vetting process etc blah blah blah ....

And if the ship gets destroyed (and no insurance rebuy ...) then you can't keep the logo.

Big fan of the X series until the Rebirth crash and burn.

I'm hoping X4 will be a return to form. Looking forward to buying it when it reaches Release Candidate quality, which is generally Release Date plus 12 months with Egosoft unfortunately.

I wish they would just go Early Access and have done with it.

I'm so glad that we can finally refund games now on Steam.

I have to wonder what tricks Egosoft will engage in to drag out that initial 2 hour period. Anything activity that is enforced, forced walking sections, unskippable cutscenes etc. Anything to soak up as much of that 2 hours before you get to the gameplay and the game is finally up.

I'm not saying the game will be bad, just that some developers seem to have gone out of their way to ensure you use up as much of that 2 hour period on anything but gameplay.

They don't do that. And to accuse a games company of that is not cool. It's interesting that you make that comment on Frontier's forum and not Egosoft's where it'd get split from whichever thread it was posted in and locked (I've been on Egosoft's forum a little longer than I've been on this one, so I know how they'd treat your comment.).

EDIT: I'm not even going to say they make bad games, because they don't. Yes, they made a huge mistake with Rebirth, and it cost them both profits and reputation. I think they learned from that, which is why we're seeing details and gameplay now much earlier than we have with previous games in the X series. I also think after what happened with Rebirth, a lot of people will take a wait-and-see approach to X4, which is understandable.

You are entitled to your opinion of course, and we'll see what Egosoft do with this particular title. I don't have any faith in them after Rebirth. All that remains to be seen is whether they learned anything from that disaster. But I do credit them with being the company that cured me of pre-ordering.

I post on there as well and have been very critical of them there as well. I've seen people affiliated with ES try and stomp on stuff on other forums like Steam where that won't wash and they don't have a free hand like they do on their own forums. They can't silence criticism so readily.

All that being said I am looking forward to X4. But you'd have to be crazy to preorder this one. I don't really believe a word they say and will only believe what I see with my own eyes or from someone who gets early access that I trust. For me there couldn't be anyone other than Mack. His Worth A Buy of Rebirth was spot on.

And as I mentioned on the Egosoft forums it will be interesting to see whether they offer review code to journos to get videos out, either before the release date or on the day if they have an embargo.

That Rebirth 'worth a buy' was the first Mack video I ever watched and even though I was raging a little after realising how bad the game was, it did bring a smile to my face.

I have watched several of his videos since (usually games that I have since purchased) and although I like his style it turns out that my view is often the complete opposite!

I do agree with his stance of dumbing games down even though I seem to be enjoying Destiny2 at the moment [woah], I really didnt think I would!

As someone who played the hell out of X3TC and AP, I must have a look at X4 and see what they are planning, no preorder from me this time tho.

Are they even the same people who designed and worked on the original X, X2 and first X3? The videos seem to show different people. Maybe the company changed sometime during the last X3 and Rebirth? Yes, they made a misstep with 'rebirth', but they'd always seemed like a solid game company otherwise, and even fans of the genre. X1 had a decent riff on robot race enemy, and X2,X3(reunion) had decent alien crystalline-organic invaders , the "khaak".

No, they are always the same people more or less: Bernd is the CEO, so no doubt about that :p, Michael (the one tucked in the background) is in the team at least from X2 times if not before, Owen (the one controlling the streaming desktop) must be around at least from X3-TC times, if memory doesn't fail me he started as a modder writing missions/script for those games (not 100% sure about that, I've been on the forums for many years and I've seen too much stuff to remember everything).

As for infos currently available on X4, that map alone is what X always deserved and never properly got. I'm genuinely hopeful. :)
