Official KOS order confirmed!
Expect 3.0 to come with in-game KOS order mechanics, Ed is pushing hard for it with Sandro right now.

Nah, to run this via Sandro would be too much effort - too many people involved there. If Ed was really sore, he should cultivate his relationship with SJA and drop a few suggestions regarding the behaviour and capabilities of some minions. I mean, as I read it now, the main problem of the minions at the moment is to hold them back - even without cheating, a fully unleashed minion will wreak havoc:

Real talk: a "KOS" mechanic could be this simple:

* Being a "bad guy" for long enough should get you Hostile with local factions pretty quickly, and with the superpower eventually.
* If you're in space controlled by a Hostile faction, you should have a small standing bounty on your head (so you're fair game to anyone willing to take you on). And of course, no docking rights at their stations. And probably hounded pretty severely by the local security forces, in and out of supercruise.

This isn't even specifically a PvP thing, it would work just as well for PvE and make the world feel more responsive and consistent. The reputation system already exists, it just needs to be a bit more dynamic and it could solve some of these problems.

I should say that killing/griefing one of the CM when he's trying to advertise the game whilst on Twitch and get more players into the game is a pretty shaddy move.

Any other game Devs with a backbone, the Wizard and a few of his friends would have been temporarily banned from Open (and Mobius, since they already went on a killing spree which is against the rules there).

I mean, although I disagree with murder-hobbos, truth be told is that it's NOT against the rules so far, and so unfortunately, murder-hobos are within the game's set of rules to murder and grief other players as they see fit. Again, even though I disagree, so far it's not against the rules.
BUT....killing a CM that's trying to advertise the game, or previously, killing streamers that are doing cancer fund-raising/awareness, or infiltrating private PvE servers and going on a killing spree, THAT should earn them a temporary ban from Open.

To quote the man: "I want to play without being griefed by teenagers". Well?

Hey, I remember you! You ever get those connection issues resolved?

Maybe he will be when he finds the horse head in his bed.

We've already tried that, but we got the best result when we beheaded his teddy bear and left that in his bed

Although thats what could have made him the person he is today

"NOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo"

Still, it's a better ED name than ....

It really is... and I can't get over the irony that it's You Know Who, not Voldemort, who is the Wizard that cannot be named.

The other irony is that were I to 'git gud' and go after You Know Who (for I too have been on the receiving end of his weapons, and it didn't end well for me, a 25 mill rebuy which was a heck of a lot for me at the time), and kill him on sight whenever I could, would I technically not meet the official definition of 'griefer'?

Not if you only tracked him down to pop him onto your blocklist. If you explode people they respawn, but blocking is forever.

Someone from AA got himself to the trouble of explaining nicely and politely to a noob that what I was doing was Cloging, which I knew nothing about at the time.
And AA also told me a few of the rules of etiquette of ED, which as a newbie I knew nothing about nor would I have known unless they reached out to me like they did.

So instead of losing a player or a player continuing to do what I was doing without ever knowing it was wrong, ED got to keep a player and a customer, thanks to AA.
Which is more than what I can say about you.

Last but not the least, my point stands: killing players in Open, although distasteful and something I do not condone, it's still within the rules of the game. So far.
But infiltrating Mobius and going on a killing spree is definately against the rules there; Griefing a CM that's trying to reach out to a broader audience on twitch is detrimental to the game.
Most games with a minimum of self-respect would have banned or at least suspended those players. Now, ED has the option of just suspending from Open if they chose to.
But they don't.

Since what the gankers and griefers are doing is detrimental to the game's sucess and profitability, I am puzzled that a few bans or suspensions haven't been sent to a select few.
Makes me wonder why. Maybe David Braben enjoys losing potential customers?

Note - I wish I remembered that player's name that reached out to me and told me the rules and the faux-pas. THanks mate.

Great story. Now the question is were there any game rules broken to justify a ban? The answer is a big fat NO.

Move on.

Hm...let's see:

- Invading Mobius and going on a killing spree, which IS against the rules there?
- Ganking newbies and seal-clubbing? (harassement)
- Killing CMs while on twitch, giving the game bad publicity?
- the 5-1 engineer exploit?

If you want to follow the rules, then yes, there are grounds for bans or suspensions from Open at least.
The question is why not?
Even EVE would have done something to any player or group that was being detrimental to the game's public image.

So, clearly, the rules aren't being enforced, that's for sure.

PS- Again, to make it clear, killing other players for no motive and ganking is still valid within the game's rule, even if I disagree.

5 - 1? Action was taken, few people were banned.

Everything else that you stated is not breaking any game rules. All valid game play, seal clubbing also. Show me a statement in TOS where it says any of those actions are a bannable offence.
