Previously, and in anticipation of 2.4, I collected 40 of each type of Thargoid and Guardian, Data and Materials type. I figured that they'd inevitably be used by engineers on Thargoid weapons and defences either when, or in the couple of months after 2.4 drops.
But... this does raise a question about Meta Alloys. The "lore" of the Thargoind says that meta-alloys are used to incapacitate their technology. Meta Alloys aren't a material though, they're a commodity.
Now, if Frontier were going to reintroduce commodities to Engineering, they would surely have had to get the new commodity storage at Engineer bases feature working. This is kind of a major feature that's not just switched on as part of the narrative.
However, they've said nothing about commodity storage.
The flip-side is that there will be no engineering of anti-Thargoid defences or weapons. If this is the case, what are all the Thargoid and Guardian data and materials for, and why have we been taught to, and encouraged to collect them for various Community Goals and missions?
Whichever way I look at this, it doesn't seem to make any sense :/
