OMG - Thargoid Cinematic was ACE!

Well, I'm out in the black heading for the eastern neutron fields and glad I am as this gives an opportunity to assess the bugs and/or possible defense/offense. Will watch and see if everyone tends to become flotsam and jetsam and the defenses or offensive tactics used. I will be checking in my data out of bubble and heading in to my war ship/cutter when things and necessities become clearer.

Out of character: Please FDev, don't make the needed upgrades/weapons hidden behind big grinds (I have all the engineers but 1 but others need access). This is a battle for the species so to speak.

Character on; Will be watching the channels planning accordingly as reports are made public...

Hell, for all we know the Artefacts and Probes might've been a message left for us (it used Morse code, for crying out loud!)

Oh, yes, the Morse has been a sticking-point for me all along. Why would aliens use a convoluted signalling system like Morse? First, they'd have to understand human speech, then, they'd have to dig through human history to find an obscure code used long ago by a specialist caste, and then count on some humans with heavy historical backgrounds to recognize it as Morse code. It would be simpler to communicate based on universals like the periodic table or Hydrogen=1 or whatever. "It don't smell right."

I've also argued that perhaps the Honk Of Paralyze that the alien ships put out may simply be a hailing frequency... to them. Unfortunately, it disables our technology. When they get no response, they just continue on their way...

However one thing remains certain -- so far the aliens mostly ignored us because we were not a threat (and conversely, we had no means of defence, should they just start "thargo-forming" inhabited world, for example). That has changed now.

SOME people, particularly military people, see anything unknown as a threat and pro-actively start shooting.

Then again, it is a cut-throat galaxy...

These guys were pansies, you dont wait for your enemy to turn around and heal.... you fire everything. On the plus side cant wait to kill some bugs.

Amazing cinematic. Wish we could get our avatar models and facerig them. Really looking forward to the Thargoids. Hope they pop into unexpected places like CZ's , RES's, CG's and near stations. The thargons animation and attack style is perfectly threatening, efficient and alien. Couldn't tell if conventional weapons damaged the thargons.

Yeah; couldn't really tell how those gimbled weapons affected the Thargoids. Looked at it several times and I wonder if it was deliberately obscured to keep us off balance. I will be watching closely as the release date passes into the mirror.

Well played, guys. An excellent stream from Sandro and Ed. Interesting to have the Thargoid lore recapped in one hit given there's been some doubt over what historical information from the previous games is still canon in ED.

The cinematic was brilliant and should definitely be an ongoing series. Looking forward to seeing how the story develops, and the release date isn't too far away!

I think that people are going to be calling for text-2-speech from NPCs and for Holo-me head tracking and mouth tracking via IR cameras for player speech and expression.

That was too awesome to not be a future feature of the game! (At some point when spacelegs happens, you know after they buff the core gameplay).

I'm guessing you are unaware that this will be in SC. It's a combination of the eye tracker system and the mapping system to add your real face to some games. It's a doozy. A 3rd party is developing it alongside SC but can't see any reason why it won't be available to any game that wants to implement it.

My thoughts exactly. They haven't attacked any humans yet (this time) have they, or did I miss that Galnet article? Yet we've seemingly developed a load of weapons and countermeasures (countermeasures to what exactly, having a greenish yellow light shone at us because that's all they've done so far..?) and are now chasing them around the galaxy mob-handed trying to blow them up for the lulz.

Remember this guy's face. When we're huddling inside a burning Coriolis on the edge of the bubble trying to work out whether we're going to run out of food or oxygen first, he's the one to blame.

I posted this in another thread but:

That being said the vid shows where a whole bunch of human ships wing up on a single 'goid vessel.

Damn what a bunch of bullying griefers that could have been a Thargoid cruise ship full of innocent insectoid tourists.

Also I could be joking......... about the griefing anyways.

Go and watch the stream as and when it becomes available.
But the cinemtic teaser was amazing.
We are in for a fight to say the least!
[woah]

So: Five ships appear to have gotten the Thargoid "ship" (BIO-sign?) down to 50% which would seem to indicate to me that a ten-ship-to-one advantage could possibly destroy a Thargship.

Perhaps; but the trailer essentially shows a wing of 4 ships, plus a second ship with 3 commanders. That's considerable firepower and it, at best, did 50% with about the hardest hitting (armour related) weapon we have; some sort of modified packhound. Ponder that, for a second, versus the AI we have now. It's a very very not-trivial thing Frontier are doing.

It was just one thargoid ship. What if there are 2. Or 3? Yeah look I am sure with sufficient firepower you could destroy just about anything; but that does give the 'goids a bit of an advantage; they don't have to care about instancing! ;)

Come on Frontier, we know you can do this; do it.

Mm, those innocent flower tourists then proceeded to send the perpetrators a very polite message in the form of more missiles/ combat probes than I could count; which were ignoring shields. It didn't seem to be working out for the wing + multi-crew wing. So, there's that. The trailer also shows something rather important; keep your distance and things do not automatically turn very real.

If this is a 'poke the bear' mechanic, then it's probably the best we can hope for from Frontier; allows for teeth, but not always, so there are alternative ways to continue in Elite.

As I figured, the AEGIS group is nothing more than a group to eradicate thargoids, zero actual research into them or attempts at communication "Oh hey we have new tech to suppress their pulse.... LETS FIRE NEW MISSILES AT THEM!". GG forced thargoid war, and here I was looking forward to players making the decisions.
