No Signal to Monitor

Hey,

Finally got my gaming PC delivered yeasterday, spent hours setting up the Oculus and x52 HOTAS and then after first training flight the screen froze, had to reset the pc now it won't send signal to monitor, I have removed ram and cleaned but still no joy, anyone have any suggestions because that first test flight got me hooked to VR can't go back to XBox now!!!

Btw this is my build, was told there should be no problems running VR when I bought it.

ADMI GTX 1080 GAMING PC: High-End VR Ready Gaming Desktop Computer: Intel Core i5 6400 Skylake Quad Core 3.3GHz Turbo CPU / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5X 4K VR Ready Graphics Card / 8GB 2133MHz DDR4 RAM / 1TB Hard Drive / 650W PSU Bronze Rated / HD Audio / USB 3.0 / HDMI/4K Ultra HD Support / VR / Oculus Support / Corsair SPEC-03 Gaming Case with Orange LED / Pre-Installed with Windows 10

Is there an extra socket were you can connect your monitor cable? (motherboard connection)
I ones toasted my graphics card and used that as temporarysolution, if you have that and
it works that's bad news...

I have tried all the connections, have swapped out DVI D for straight up hdmi, even tried another monitor, still no luck, as I only received the pc yesterday it will definitely still be under warranty, unfortunately they are closed at weekends!!!!

I mean a socket on the motherboard, not your graphics card but I don't know if these new motherboards still have that.
If it does it is probably covered with a plastic cap, old plug.
And even if you have that and it works it has no power so it is useless for gaming but than we know it is your
graphics card that is the problem, if you don't have it then we wil only know after repair :(

Good advice from dree, try using the DVI port strait from the motherboard.

This is a long shot but just may work. ...,,

The sensor for the oculus rift uses quite a lot of band width, and can simply shut other peripherals off when the USB3 port its plugged into is overloaded with data....

So try swapping around your USB plugs to find a configuration that is stable.

Also....the hotas is best plugged into a USB2

let me know if this works.

Additional....my setup kept switching of my hotas until I swapped around the USB leads. And then unplugged a separate external hard drive.

Thanks for the advice guys, gonna give it a try now.....fingers crossed that it works as my wife is having a friend around for wine tonight and I'd rather be in space than in the same room as them

Managed to plug DVI cable into socket on motherboard, still not getting any signal on the monitor, I have just rang my boss to tell him I will be off on Monday so I can take the pc back to the shop

Just one last thing to check....
Not sure how you can do this, unless you have acces to another PC. Check through the monitors menu and see if somehow it's switched to HDMI(or some other setting) rather than DVI ? This would prevent anything other than the standby light from occurring.

I have checked the monitor settings and it is set to DVI, however it is showing a very low resolution, there does not seem to be a way to change the resolution

Another reason could be the refresh rate of your monitor to that of windows itself. If you can - under the monitor controls itself, try resetting the refresh rate to 60Hz (that's the standard for monitors) and if possible, select Auto for the connection type. That should allow the monitor to detect the video source. If it's all still blank, does your monitor & graphics card have a VGA connector? Try connecting them or using an adapter to the DVI to VGA, connect your PC & monitor that way.

There are other options to try with another being re-seating the graphics card (there are some mobo's that are just faulty I'm afraid and and the PCIe socket is one of the most common to fail).

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys, I am trying them all in the hope that I can get playing really soon, I do not want to mess too much with the internals of the pc as I will be returning it to the shop I bought it from on Monday morning and don't want to give them the excuse thing deal with the problem

Quite understand. I'd also suggest that you take along your VR kit as well just to ensure they know exactly what the issue is. I've worked in computer shops and built many machines myself, sometimes when a PC is returned and I power it on, it all works wonders to which the client gets frustrated that maybe you don't believe them.

You've paid some serious wedge out for that PC - do make sure you get them to resolve it for you.

Thanks for that advice, will also take monitor and X52, while I'm there I may take the opportunity to upgrade the ram

I have to ask. Did you pull the video card before testing the mobo graphics port? Some gpus will override onboard graphics which need to be turned on in bios. If neither the mobo graphics nor the 1080 will drive the monitor, it may be a monitor issue . Have you a spare monitor to try?

Yeah, I tried another monitor using DVI and also hdmi, also tried plugging pc in to TV using HDMI, no response from either.

It's been confirmed by the shop that the graphics card had gone, they are replacing it now and also giving me a free upgrade, but I had to pay to upgrade the ram

Should hopefully be playing again in a few hours, just out of interest, do you guys use voice attack, and if so is there any preferences on the voice pack?

Ones set up it runs on the background, you say jump and VA puch the J for you.
I comes with all pre-made example bindings and commando sets.
If you changed the J for jumping to a S (example) you can change that in VA.

I did not install the latest few Kate updates and did not change anything in VA
for a long time so I'm a little out of it to go in detail.

Is it easy to set up voice attack?, do I need to somehow link it to the game or just have it running in the background?

I don't use a voice pack but VA is indispensible. To set up, just ensure it's running in the background - you can set it send command to Active window (i.e. whatever program you're interacting with) or specifically to ED (which will need to be running for it to show up in the list of running programs). Try VA on its own before setting up a load of options - ensure it's picking up the Rift mic etc (there's a VA setting somwhere to show the output and the confidence level, can't remember where exactly). When they're all good set up something simple and easy to test - I always go for Lights (L on keyboard by default I think) and just keep playing around with settings until you can turn your ship lights on and off through the Rift and VA. One thing, VA really benefits from the speech recognition training - just make sure you're using the right flavour of it in the speech engine(US or UK for example). You could just leave the speech engine to default if that keeps things simple.
