Exactly as asked, what does pinning a blueprint do?
I've searched, but anyone who's ever used the search function can attest the futility in it.

Thx, so it doesn't highlight the mat's required, or highlight the stuff in your mat's inventory or anything like that?
I clearly remember a dev stating that it influences the likelihood of encountering the mats and data needed for that blueprint.
And they recently increased that likelihood in one of the patches. This was mentioned in the patch notes somewhere.
I already searched for them but I can't find them now.
At the time I was very surprised to see this mentioned, as I had never heard any dev saying anything about this before.
I made a remark about it in the thread because nobody else seemed to have noticed.
Hello Commander Almondclint!
I think it's unlikely that we will allow the purchase of materials. They exist specifically as a new resource to manage.
That does not invalidate your complaint, of course, so things that we might look into could be: trade materials for higher class or different types at material broker contacts (probably at some loss), tweak the algorithms so that materials for pinned blueprints had better chances of being generated, more rewards that were materials based.
Very nice, I'll give this a shot, as like everyone else, I'm using inara.
INARA is trash!
its just info on paper... if it actually took info from the game it be good but you need to manually input the data witch is LITERALLY the equivalent of you writing it on paper.. lol
this program takse the info STRAIT from the game in REAL TIME! once you set the BP you want the pragram will Vocally tell you that you have the mats or w/e you want.
you will be scanning a point and then you will hear:
G5 Multi cannon over charge READY
OR
You have 20 Slots left in your DATA
or
Your DATA is full
ect...
ED Engineer is very useful, but that doesn't mean Inara is trash. I use them both fairly frequently.
Looking up a blueprint is a lot easier on Inara than ED Engineer. However, ED Engineer helps me more with active inventory management. They both have their uses.
If you want something with Notification when your DATA/MATS are full or when your Blueprint mats requirements are MET you can get this app.
https://github.com/msarilar/EDEngineer
this program does what ED should have done.
I use screenshots to capture the blueprints that I like.ED Engineer is very useful, but that doesn't mean Inara is trash. I use them both fairly frequently.

Its a mini game where you get to pin blueprints and guess how long they take to vanish later.
Flimley
i am a little confused:
i bought a new python and want to built it for passenger missions. for that i wanted to engineer an 5A FSD, but atm i just have a 5B installed and headed to filicity farseer. now i have acces to all grades and can pin the blueprint, but am i right that its useless right now when i dont have the 5A FSD installed?
ok i see, thx!Yes you are confused. If you have pinned the blueprint you can apply it to any FSD in the remote workshop of a station - so it is not useless.
The 5B FSD itself is not optimal but of course it has high integrity so it has its uses.
N.B. You can only apply experimental effects at an engineer not in remote workshop - so you need to visit an engineer that does that module to apply an experimental effect, it does not need to be the engineer you have pinned the blueprint at.
ok i see, thx!
well the 5B was just temporary, but i got a 5A already and went to felicity again to pin it. now i know it wasnt necessary. the game doesnt really like to give proper information. when i was there, felicity asks "for what you want that upgrade?" and there was only to choose the 5B FSD that i had, so i assumed it just works with the one i had installed
