8K 200 degree FOV room scale VR.

Given that I'm trading up from the Pimax BE edition (which is essentially 2.5k) to the 5K, am I going to get a better SDE?

You need to consider the size of the screens and find the PPI, it seems these screens are bigger in size hence the 5k SDE being worse than the 4K (On the 4k it is barely noticeable, especially once gaming).
Maybe the screen size is larger due to 200 FOV, might be worth checking pimax forums and looking for PPI numbers or asking the question.

EDIT: Found these numbers on the pimax forum, don't think they are official

5K's panel PPI is around 530

8K Panel's PPI is 806

For me it was no positional tracking.

Oh yah, even though they've improved it a lot with recent updates, that's another reason to upgrade to the new one!! Totally forgot about that (probably because it's been less of an issue than it was in the past)

I have a lot of respect for the company. They definitely keep improving and re-iterating with their current gen, and also they seem to be all in on partnering with others to expand the ecosystem, instead of trying to do it all themselves and overstretching.

The SDE will likely be worse, but will have far better FOV. The 5k has panels are 2560x1440, I think your BE has a panel that is 3840 x 2160. SO if you wanted the same or similar SDE then it would need to be the 8k version.

according to here http://www.zozovr.com/product/pimax-version-vr-headset - the resolution is 2560x1440 - is that total, or per eye? if it's that per eye, then yes, it will be the same as the 5k, and then I will change my order to an 8k unit

I might ask them to credit me back shipping :) - I can catch the light rail down to them and pick it up directly for $4 instead of paying $50 to ship

Yes but the Pimax 4K BE is not 200 FOV like the 5K right? Even though it is 4K, the pixels are spread over a much wider area thus loses out with the SDE

Ahh, I didn't know that the BE version was like that, that is total for the BE Version. The 5K has that per eye. So the SDE should be very similar. How is the SDE on the BE, I have seen your pics and it looks like it is hardly noticeable. But if you can get the 8k, you should as your GPU will be able to handle it just fine as it is the same res that is being pumped to the units, its just the 8k version upscales it.

The Pimax Be version has a resolution of 2560*1440 which is the same as the 5k displays. SDE should be very similar.

This also seems to tie in with some comments I've seen on the forums.
I did try to find the PPI of the BE for loribee and because im curious, but cannot find that information.

I did find that the 4K has a PPI of around 800, which is similar to the 8K of 806
Assuming the screen size in the 4K and BE are the same, it can be estimated that the PPI of the BE is approx. 500, this is close to the 5K of 530

Another way to look at it is, as the resolution has doubled, if the screen size is double and the lens magnification is the same, the SDE will be the same.
