I met my Nemesis

I was confident Galaxy is a boringly safe place. My ship's hull stayed at 100% for 2+ years of exploring and almost 1 000 000ly traveled. Been in dozens of close binary grills and every time escaped without a scratch. And i thought nothing can happen to me out there. But it did. Galaxy set a perfect trap for me: a very heavy primary star - almost 110 MSol Wolf-Rayet. The killer was the secondary star - a Blue Hypergiant, on a close orbit. When i exited the jump i was immediately thrown out of supercruise. There wasnt even a second time to react.

I was only 760ls from the hypergiant! It was a spectacular view but i dont want to see it again :) The WR is also visible on the bottom of the screen

At that point i was still rather arrogant...no big deal, it is just a minor misfortune. I will just FSD out :) Acted like a rookie and just fired the FSD without much consideration....and paid the price

Below is a video for horror movie fans :)

At that point i was pretty sure i am gone. But put back on my thinking hat, stopped the music and made a much better considered second attempt to escape:

It worked, somehow i managed to escape to safety. But now i am 30 000ly from home, with hull at 5%, many modules completely destroyed and the rest seriously damaged. Obviously the rest of my planned trip is cancelled and i am heading home. Wonder how far i will make it this crippled ship...

5%!! Wow that was quite the escape! Maybe with the advent of 2.4 someone can grab some of the newer repair limpets and meet you to get that hull patched up.

Safe trip home!

Yup, if you can limp along for a few days there'll be Fuel Rats a-plenty just itching to try those new Repair Limpets. Hopefully you can then make it to one of the more remote bases to patch up the rest.

Heat sinks. Use 'em or lose 'em. I thought I saw one get launched. They will launch themselves due to malfunction when they take heat damage. Better to launch 'em yourself before that happens.
Yeah, I was gonna suggest high-waking away. Less time cooking in the escape vector.

Glad you survived. Fly safe.

I may have to make a visit to that system myself.

No, i have no heat sinks. My initial escape attempt was stupidly wrong and no amount of heat sinks would save me. For my 1st attempt I didnt check the distance to the WR and supergiant and chose a wrong escape vector. Plus didnt try to jump out of the system and tried to low wake and continue to explore the same system. Basically 90% of damage the ship took was caused by my arrogance. I seriously underestimated the seriousness of the situation.

Never the less it shows how things can go south real fast.

If this can happen to a legendary explorer like Pirin.... it can happen to any of us.

2 years out? that is AWESOME.

(I plan on going out on Nov 22nd)
I'm gonna go real deep.

This has nothing to do with who you are ;)

I never thought of myself as legendary :) But thanks, appreciated

When i said 2 years, i didnt mean it was one single trip. More like 3-4 trips with short pit stops in Bubble and Colonia between them

Biggest problem I noticed in the video was that you weren't headed directly away from the blue giant. I would also have shut down as many modules as possible to reduce heat, and put 4 pips to system. If that didn't look like it would allow you to escape before frying, I'd have cancelled and let things cool a bit and then plot a high wake out.

Complacency is the explorer's enemy. I've been in that spot a time or two...

Haven't had a chance to watch the video yet (it might be obvious in there), but which of your modules are still alive?

Shields, chaff, cargo hatch, docking computer and sensors are completely dead. The rest are between 26-98%.
Even if make it back to the Bubble, entering it with 5% hull and no chaff and shields gives me shivers

All valid points. As i said, i was pretty ignorant in the first stage. Was listening to some music and watching TV. Only when my ship started to burn like firework i realized something is wrong and this is not going to work as i expected. At that point pulled the throttle back to zero and disengaged the FSD. And just then checked the distance to the stars and realized i need to turn my back to the giant, not to the WR, as i did initially.
All unnecessary modules are turned off by default, probably this saved me.

Maybe the last 3 numbers in the system name should be 666 instead of 466..... Just a thought!

Glad you made it out alive! I hope you can make it home.

Damn, I had a situation exactly like this, a hypergiant behind the dropout of a WR. Fortunately I managed the escape with my tail between my legs in about 20 seconds, not 2 mins [haha]. Kudos

*shiver*

Good thing you made it out alive. (And I bet Alex or Kerenn will be there the instant 2.4 drops, so don't worry. :) )

You should head for Colonia, it's a lot closer from there than the bubble.
Try to dock caotiously if you don't have a shield :)

Or wait for help as others suggested
