PvP Griefers are seriously making me consider quitting

Frontier made some choices; we all get to either live with them, or elect to reduce the impact. Morals are great, however in games they tend to exist to trigger options, not gate content. It's a pretty important distinction.

OP, I'd encourage you to seek like minded people, and explore the game, with them. This could be mobius, or it could be other player groups. This will almost certainly work out better for your chosen engagement style, as it'll clearly provide the social interaction component, and it'll also reduce the portions of the game you do not particularly enjoy.

The options Frontier have provided, are that to opt-out of player-driven combat that is not at a time or place of your choosing, is to elect an appropriate Private Group, or Solo. Again; moral dilemmas are presented in this game, on purpose. Frontier included player combat in this. This is an implicit intent. One can argue semantics, but this is intentional design.

We all have freedom to elect whichever mode works best; but open does include additional moral questions and does include circumstances which one may not have control over. This is intentional. So one can rage against the machine, which will not care, or find the solution that closest matches. That may not be preferable, or desired but that is, as it is. I don't care what modes people elect. They exist, for a reason. We are all perfectly capable of picking an appropriate option.

So do this, pick the mode that best meets your chosen goals, and continue to enjoy the game. Labouring the point over morals isn't going to change the situation. It just isn't.

Fly safe.

Yeah, sure, try and find me in open. Good luck. Where I am, it won't matter what mode I am in, you don't have a ship that jumps far enough fast enough. And I don't care about contests of measuring e-peen.

Ah an explorer! I like exploration myself but I've touched on all aspects of Elite. In order of things I like from Least to Greatest I would say: Mining, Trading, CGs, PvE NPC Combat (res sites, nav beacons, CZ), PvP Combat (now in a game like Overwatch or CS im ALL about the PvP, but I'm not good enough yet to be a god-tier PvPer, I can't even FA-off... but I do have a few nifty pvp-geared/gearing ships, including my prized Corvette), Exploration, Thargoid / Guardian Mysteries (LOOOOOOVE the atmosphere Frontier have provided with that, entering a Thargoid wreck to explore or a Guardian ruins site just gives me chills since it's so... alien).

I do have currently a 44ly jump Asp, but I am working on buying an Anaconda (just need a few hundred more from the glorious bank of Quince). Then I will farm wakes. Anything on my conda less than 60 LY jump range will be unacceptable to me. I'd like to get really deep to the lost ship in the Formadine Rift as well as just explore an arm or two to the outer reaches. Don't be so quick to judge me, I assure you I have and will soon have an even greater jump range capable ship, with a few of the neutron highways bookmarked too for convenience (such as going to Colonia). Just because I happen to love PvP and piracy and even a little bit of the surprise gank (smaller ships are fun for this tho) but nothing mean, as I don't interdict beginners except to preach the holy gospel of the Thargoids and tell them that our bug overlords demand worship and that the Guardians are false prophets and gods... doesn't mean I don't love the aspects you might. I just tend to stick my head into everything and experience it all (and yes I have had ganks that utterly destroyed even my expensive ships, especially from Adle's Armada in Eravate cause they didn't like me interdicting beginners to tell them about our lords and saviors the Thargoids).

Well that explains a lot. I'm approaching 46, too, and when I fought you at a CG a few weeks ago I actually thought the fight was kind of like two old guys shouting about who was on who's lawn and beating eachother over the head with their walkers (the kind with tennis balls on the feet to prevent scuffing the linoleum) for ten minutes until the batteries in their pacemakers finally gave out and the nurses came rushing in off of their smoke break to see what the fuss was all about. I think I won, but probably only because your incontinence diaper was full.

Fantastic.
Did you see that Family guy episode?

In ED they don't call them griefers. They call them "pirates". But whatever you want to call them, I'm sick of their crap.

I've been a huge fan. I own all 30 ships, bought skins for a few, decals, etc. I'm at a point where I've done enough that the only reason to play now is to meet up with some people and have some fun together.

But apparently that's not allowed. The only thing that's allowed is that people get to mug me whenever they feel like it, and then make fun of me for "whining" about it because "that's what Solo is for". They are 100% allowed to ruin anything I'm doing, and I have no possible way of getting revenge except to STOP what I'm doing, blow a few million calling my PvP ship at the nearest station, wait for it to be delivered, and see if I can find them... if they're even still online.

Can't even call them out by name in the forums. That's a "witch hunt". They're just "pirating", which is "valid". Minding my own business and wanting to play with people who won't take advantage of a ship mismatch? That's not valid at all. I should run like a coward or give them my cargo or just let them blow me up. I should play in Solo. I should "know what I'm getting into". I should make people stand guard over me.

Because what I want doesn't count, only what the "pirates" want counts. (not "griefers", they're not "griefers" remember)

The new justice system will raise the amount of Cr they pay... like that will make any difference or pay me back at all for the bull...

So you know what? Screw it. I don't need this in my life.

... maybe... idk... having a real hard time walking away from a game I've poured this many hours into... and the game has so much potential...

But let's face it: I haven't actually enjoyed ED in days.

Anyway... I expect the only people who reply to this thread will be pirates who can't wait to validate the awful way they victimize people for fun so... likely won't be back to these forums... just needed to say it.

Firstly, dont know where you've been but anyone that so much as scans another ship in ED is known as a griefer murder-hobo psychopath nutjub murderer on the forums, not a "pirate".

Secondly, your actually moaning about the easily most acceptable form of "PVP" which is piracy by the sounds of it. How you can whinge about pirates i dont know, as you previously mentioned; you have other modes and pirates ransoming other players is as good as the player interaction gets in this game.

If your being pulled over and robbed that much you might want to look inward at your own skill and ability...Its not difficult to avoid.

I, too, have considered taking a very long break from ED, a game that I love and have accumulated nearly 7 weeks of game time.

Two days ago I was griefed by two losers. I call them losers because I was flying in my unarmed, unshielded Type 9 loaded with goods for Liz Ryder's CG for the benefit of all the community. This particular CG isn't faction based or any other divisive reason. It is a CG for the good of the entire human population in the bubble. Ironically, the 5,000 tons of goods I have run for this CG will only serve to provide anti-Thargoid equipment for these losers.

There is no honor in blowing up a player that is unarmed. I wasn't even wanted. I was clean at the time. Even worse, they wiped all of my cartography data. Data that I couldn't sell due to an annoying bug in ED that causes the game to crash each time I try.

I am so annoyed. This was their goal, and they won.

but some of us wants to protect Thargoid overlords, Logging in open means you signed up for unexpected PvP encounters, what you gain & lose is entirely your responsibility.

Interesting story. I'm sure the players who sent you to the rebuy screen are enjoying the heck out of it. And, to put it bluntly; if you're flying an unshielded t9 it's you who is the loser.

Just block players you don't want to play with, they should still be in your contacts history : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...ners-advice-on-dealing-with-griefing-(part-2)

Solo mode, it's all I've ever used. I don't have the time or energy to deal with imbeciles any more..

I like all the modes, but I prefer open more now I've eradicated station griefers and all the best known cheats. Don't wait for FDEV to do anything or change your mode choice, just get blocking.

All the pro's non of the cons.

Actual piracy is an officially endorsed play style it's not fair to lump them in with griefers . That said before you quit consider joining one of the PvE groups (it's what I did)

lmao.. A player in an un-shielded Type 9.. How could anyone not shoot at that? [haha]

Blockings better, works across your whole fleet it's also permanent.

Ok, so I always knew your line on this topic was "block anyone who dares to attack you for any reason" no matter how much you insist it's just "block cheaters!" I'll be perfectly honest with you; the idea that you would tell this guy who is flying sans shielding to block someone who would cause him harm before you would advise him to at least make an attempt at properly equipping his ship and learning to fly it is a pathetic joke. Good god, Bob. For shame.

OMG I was thinking the same thing. To NOT shoot that down would be like a crime against nature.

It's up to the individual player to decide who (if anyone) to block or friend. It's up to the individual reader to decide whose advice is worthwhile. I'd rather just switch to solo if I'm not feeling sociable. No need to always play in one mode or advocate any one over another.

Thats a particularly salty post.. [haha] You know its just a game right?

I guess people are missing my point. That's fine. I don't need your validation. I'm just expressing the fact that there is no honor in going after unarmed vessels, nor any gains. I suppose though, if humans are often irrational in real life, I shouldn't be surprised they are irrational in ED.

And in response to the person who wants to "protect the Thargoid", you can't. The weapons are going to be accessible no matter what. The difference being (based on the CG) is exactly how many places they can be purchased.

Personally, I agree. But people don't play computer games for honour. Your last sentence sums it up. I treat the E: D galaxy as our own... Humans have personality flaws. A lot of them. We all need to deal with them. :) Shieldless in Open heading towards a CG really isn't a good idea.
