5A Frameshift drive in Colonia region?

Folks,

Having returned from my trip to Wagar's Reach to Colonia in my Cobra, I've managed to upgrade to an Asp Explorer. However, in order to make my ship as exploration proof as possible I ideally want a 5A frameshift drive. I've managed to find a 5B thus far (and everything else is D save for the powerplant and distributor.)

Does anyone know if there is a 5A for sale anywhere in the Colonia region. Thought I'd check before I waste my time wandering around looking for it. My google fu has come up short.

Cheers,

Drew.

According to eddb your nearest station from Colonia with a 5A Frame Shift Drive is 21,743.38 LY away ;)

Dunno if EDDB is accurate for the Colonia region though.

It is accurate.

There are no A grade core modules, you'll have to make do with a B.

Or stick with the Cobra.

Another reason not to settle in Colonia. My opinion of course. Its the only thing stopping me relocating there.

I think for the seasoned player (i.e. wealthy) it's OK, you just have to stock up on shippable equipment before you go and then be prepared to pay the price.

I of course did not do this and had to ship three small ships separately to get the modules I needed to correct the outfitting errors in my Explo Dolphin!

Post-2.4 there may be more options in Colonia. There have been rumours..

Luckily I brought a 5A with me on my Asp to stick in my Python.

Been there done that...had to go back to the bubble and get A rate modules. Getting them shipped out is expensive btw but no gain without pain, right? Its elite...didnt expect the solution to be easy now did ya?

And now with the added bonus that the suicide winder fast taxi back to the bubble exploit has been fixed, ye get double the pain fer the price of one...probably why theres nobody out here ^

Oh? If you tried to do it now, what would happen?
Also, I wouldn't say it's an exploit. It has always been a feature that upon death, you could choose to lose your ship and respawn at your original starting location instead. That's not a bug, but working as intended - it's just that bases so far away weren't intended at first.

As for Colonia, did the region's expansion in the 2.4 update still not add a 5A FSD somewhere? Or was it just more player minor factions again? (Also, some of those new system names... Brr.)

Other than renaming some systems (and one planet), there's no obvious change to Colonia in 2.4. There hadn't been any obvious outfitting changes but I haven't had time to check many stations yet.

I suspect the patch notes referred to the changes made in and shortly after 2.3.10 to add some new outposts and CEI planet bases.

EDIT: The "Pekoe" system - an agricultural prison colony outpost - has now been found just over 50 LY from Colonia. It shows up on the Galmap as 0 population and no economy/government, so I completely missed it until it was pointed out. There may be others similarly obscured.

I've been flying all over Colonia trying to find a 5B but INARA & EDDB are not updated because of the API changes and it appears the two places that had them prior don't anymore (Dervish & Oswalk Park). No idea where to find even that now.

I've seriously considered moving out to Colonia as well. The main thing holding me back is the possibility of working more with the Engineers, though this doesn't mean I want Engineers out in Colonia, mind you. I haven't really gotten around to working with them very much though, leastwise not much beyond getting tier 5 FSD range mods.

My advice would be to outfit a handful of ships however you want them and have them transferred out to Colonia when you can afford it after manually taking your most expensive one out there. Wouldn't hurt to have a small stockpile of modules for customization that you could have shipped out there either.

Funny enough, its relative remoteness and isolation are the main attraction of Colonia to me. Well, other than Jaques Station, of course.

Since the boost to exploration payouts, I'm getting more credits than I know what to do with anyway, not being interested in the large ships. A well bloated Python is about the extent I seem to care for.

At any rate, thanks for the thread, Drew. It's made me weigh the pros and cons some more and I've decided to take the plunge and move my base of operations out to Colonia at my next earliest convenience.

Cheers.

If anyone is thinking of coming out to Colonia there is still a real lack of A Grade components. That really needs to change.

Amazon really needs to become a corporation in elite dangerous. Colonia + Prime membership w/o fine print and Amazon would go out of business.

With Amazon already planning drone delivery in today's world, I'm sure 3D-printing your purchases at your doorstep is the next step. And if they can do that, they should be able to do it in Colonia by 3304. :D

I am in Colonia, and I have to say it is a nice getaway from the bubble. Sure, no engineers or burning stations, but these are offset by the nice views from hand placed stations/planetary bases, and unexplored systems are literally only a handful of jumps away. I've even found an untagged ringed AW on the way in to Colonia, i.e. a route frequently travelled.

A-rated core modules are not there yet, but 3A shields, advanced disco scanner and other A-rated optional modules are available, I even saw AX Taipan for sale out here. Since I have arrived in a multirole Corvette, and also rocking a Keelback (the one I've been at BP :) with Distant Worlds), a T6 and an Adder, also I have a stock of engineered modules, I have most needs covered. :) Ironically, an engineered 5A FSD is missing as it would fit nicely to a Colonia-Bubble DBX express.

BTW, it is nice to see Drew getting back into the CMDR seat. :)
