Powerplay Expansion and Control Views in Galaxy Ma

So, I haven't tried powerplay in... well, about a year I suppose. The Expansion and Control Views in the galaxy map are new though, right? I've never seen them before, and they seem really useful. I'm wondering if this would be a good time to get back into powerplay and really give it a go, but I'm not keen on tracking spreadsheets on reddit. Can a player determine what's in their powers best interest using these new map features, or will I still end up advancing the wrong junk?

Powerplay is really about working as a team, and the best way to understand and help is to join up with big groups and work to a plan.

It has some fun and interesting missions such as legal piracy, but I don't really want to get involved in a group. I'm sure that weird but that's just me. I was hoping the map changes might be of help to me but it's all Latin to me. Well, nothing wrong with not changing my stance on Powerplay I guess.

You can go lone wolf, but you would have to know what is 'best', and that is a very subjective thing in Powerplay. Quite often lone wolves who think they are doing what is right end up working against bigger groups and messing up plans- and are often confused with players who are abusing Powerplay mechanics (the 5C / 5th column).

The other thing is to look at the objectives on a powers Reddit or Discord and work for that, no need for chat or chat as much / little as you like.

Yes, that is it exactly. I was hoping that someone who knew the ins and outs of powerplay was going to tell me that the map changes make telling what is 'best' a breeze, but that was too much optimism on my part.

When I tried Powerplay a year ago, Each week I'd wait for the reddit post to be updated for ALD and then go jump to it, but then sometimes the post would be updated later and I was happily plugging away with bad intel. I just didnt enjoy hunting posts for changes and marching orders, and wished there was more in-game control. There's nothing wrong with players coordinating on Reddit of course, it's just not my cup of tea I guess. To each their own. I'll just dip over to the aliens thread and not step in the way of the powerplay folks. Delivering a dozen Cutters-full of materials to the wrong location seems just too likely.

The most common thing groups have is a Discord channel, it might be worth simply joining one. In the end it comes down to the group; I used to be a Utopian co-ordinator and mod on Reddit, and we would view both Reddit and Discord as having parity. I know Aisling uses Trello too.

The other way would be to wait until Monday when things have got more solid as quite often groups would have put up the weeks guide Reddit.

The other way to help could be via the BGS, undermining etc.

Better now than before. These features are not new, but they have been adjusted to reflect the cost of overheads. So the profit figure shown on the map for an uncontrolled system is more frequently correct than it was in the past. You are going to find, though, that there are not profitable expansions available for most (any?) of the powers. Expansions at this point are going to be selected based on other criteria, and understanding that is something best done as part of a group, as Rubbernuke suggested.

If you want to be a lone wolf, I would definitely suggest against ever running preps. Powers are probably going to consolidate, which means that if you want to help, prep is a wasted activity. If you're interested in logistics and want to support a power, fortify instead. If you really want to support a power, get in touch with that power's community to follow the systems that they have identified as needing forts.

If you run 1400 tons into a 8000 trigger system that is 10% undermined, you're...kind of helping, but if the organized community decides not to fortify that, then you've basically wasted that tonnage.
