Thargoids in a CZ?

I'm really worried that the coming Thargoid war will consist of a load of CZ's similar to the placeholders we currently have around random planets in 'war' state.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong and that it's something a little more epic.

If 2.4 ends up being a reskin of Combat CZ's with different 'enemy' ships I'm going to be mightily disappointed!

The trailer on the livestream was awesome and I am genuinely excited about the next few weeks! Come on FDev, I have faith in you - please blow my mind!! [alien]

Well, if it's not you first online game, you will probably know that there will be nothing that will disrupt the normal game play or could be annoying to a casual player in any way. So, no blockade on stations or systems that were safe before and people could have assets in them, no dangerous random encounters in the deep dark that will kill the unprepared traveller. That doesn't leave much place for exciting new mechanics. On the stream they've said there will some non-comabt content, so I guess there will be missions related to the Thargoids, maybe some scanning or scouting on their positions and probably some spawning points to have some pew pew with them, and knowing how it worked before, probably some more or less structured short story mission chain.

I'm glad either way, I just need some new interesting and varied things to shot. ED was pretty boring with the NPCs only flying the same couple of ships the player had access to.
 
I think you might get something like that in a Evacuate the People (Trade) / Entertain the Thargoids (Combat) Community Goal. Only place where that may fit.

Rest may be Random Encounters of the Third Kind, Lost in (Witch) Space and Assault on Thargoid 13 type of events.
 
To be honest, that's what I'm expecting as there's only a couple of ways of doing combat locations with current mechanics.

• In empty space
Any area where you do combat and there is no risk of crashing into objects aside from other ships — These are areas like combat zones, aftermath of interdictions, low wake into signal sources, and yes this could also includes nav beacons.

• Extractions sites
There is a risk to crash into static object (asteroids), which can also be used as cover.

• On planet surfaces
Obvious risk of crashing into the ground.

• Around stations
Any area or point of interest in space that contains a structure.

So nothing like UA Bombs then?

I'm not a game designer but I can see the difficulties in having such a massive area to work with. I'm just saying - if it's another reskin (circa passenger missions from commodity trading) i'm going to be sad.

I am hopeful its not copy and paste CZ's or USS's if so that's rather major lazy and will be a serious let down, Thargoids need to be present, grabbing us out of hyper-jumps, and so forth like the old games. Need some fear/danger back in the game, as currently Elite is so dumbed down my 4 yr old farms Haz Res sites for me with no challenge whilst watching "Hey Duggee" on TV.

If they go the cheap boring CZ/USS path, /facepalm!

Which wouldn't be a new approach by FD, IMO. They just do placeholder this, placeholder that, then create similar content to put in existing placeholder.

Anyway, I'll probably still enjoy ED when 2.4 lands. :)

They released Thargoids in USS's, Cut'N Paste old USS's and add in Thargoid model, CZ's are where our wars are going to be fought you can count on it.... dull and lack luster indeed. Was hoping for so much more then copy and paste grinds.

I think we all are worried, it's going to be that rubbish.
 
Ive said it before and it'll get said again, I honestly don't think that the core loops of the game will change. This means that content will be uss, beacons, sites and zones.

Personally I have no problem with this however it does seem a few commanders really need to assess wether Elite is actually the game they want to play

Yeah, it's always been my impression that major changes and brand new mechanics, are for full releases like 2.0, 3.0 etc. — with .xx releases simply adding smaller stuff.
