Kill XXX pirates in system mission?

I took a mission last night to kill 12 pirates in a neighboring system. I am curious....is the only way to find these pirates by interdicting them out of supercruise? I went to the NAV beacon and not a single one from the faction that I need to kill. I managed to kill 7 before I gave up for the night but it took almost 1.5 hours for them to appear. If that is the case I will not take anymore of those missions.....

you did the only sensible thing in the absence of RESes, you went to the nav beacon. SC prowling is even more hit and miss, but I have a tip for you, carry some valuable cargo and you won't have to scan for them, they'll come to you (in both the Nav beacon, and SC as well). ;)

I hate carrying an interdictor (and obviously cargo), it's a waste of a slot, especially on combat missions. If it were up to me, Disco Scanner, Fuel Scoop, FSD interdictor, 2t of 'cockpit storage' (think of it like the trunk of your car, lol) and the warrant scanner would not take up a slot but be MUCH more expensive and increase in cost with ship size.

Ah...I'll try that tonight! Thanks!

Here's some tips on Kill x Pirates missions

Check the system they want you to go to before accepting. Just look at the system map. If there are no resource extraction (found at ringed planets) sites then it will be much harder to find the pirates.

Also on teh system map, check the faction type. If its an Anarchy faction type that you have been asked to hunt you are in luck. They spawn lots of pirates. If it's not then you will have a tough time of it.

Next up select a small delivery mission for about 4 tonnes or less. This will attract pirates to interdicte you while i supercruise.

Buy 1 to 10 tonnes of something fairly valuable. Again, great bait, especially in resource extraction sites.

A kill warrant scanner will increase the income you make from bounty hunting.

A frame shift interdictor will also speed the process up nicely.

If the source system has multiple factions all asking you to kill x pirates in the same system then take one mission from each of the factions. This is not teh same as mission stacking but has a similar effect. Each kill wil count as 1 kill for each seperate factions missions.

Finally dont bother taking more than on Kill x pirates mission from the same faction at a time unless they are for a very small number of kills.

Yesterday I found another possible way just by chance. I jumped into a "distress call threat 2" signal source and killed four small pirate vessels harassing a trader Cobra. Immediately after that four other pirates chimed in and shared the fate of their predecessors. And after that another four new pirates... After that I left the scenery without waiting for the next wave of pirates... :D

I had one of those missions fail with 0 / 16 because none of those special pirates valid as mission targets showed up at the RES, none at the Nav Beacon, none in Signal Sources. That'll be the last time I wasted hours on this type of mission.

These missions can be pretty bad if the target faction isn't an anarchy one. Hunting the targets down one by one in supercruise just takes too long. If it is an anarchy faction then they're pretty easy.

Well it was like that a year ago, still the same, not fixed in 2.4? ... :) Good job, FD.

I take a look at those mission types after every 2.x release. Won't waste my time this time anymore.

I still don't understand how people haven't figured out how to do these. They are super easy to do if you just think about it a little on how to complete them. I love those missions as they are easy money.

What? You can see resource extractions sites from the system map?
3 years almost. It's been almost 3 years and I didn't know this.

Tell me what to do when all the NPC pirates that showed up didn't count.

I believe Ben is referring to the fact that you can see in the system map if planets have rings - ringed planets tend to have 'RES's'....not that you can see the RES sites as such.

Had a look at these in 2.4, thank god they only seem to be for Anarchy factions now.

2.3 and before, it used to generate these missions for non-anarchy factions, and you had better luck winning the lottery than encountering "pirates" for those factions.

I've also only noticed missions for the anarchy factions in 2.4.

It seems like the kill pirate lord missions are all for the anarchy factions too.

Once you have accepted the mission . You need to pray for the reward. You did not pray enough

I am sorry but with your attitude I can only say, figure it out yourself, its not that hard. I will even be nice and give you a hint. You need an interdictor.

I must've been hunting pirates the wrong way for two years, then. But that doesn't matter any longer, as I'll try to avoid those missions from now on.

By the way, you might want to tell the mission programmers at Frontier about this, because they still think that you'll find the targets at Nav Beacons and RES. They even added that information into the mission description.

Why? you can find them there as well, but that is the hard way of doing the mission. Hell sometimes the target system doesn't have res sites. But enjoy your righteous rage against a mission you don't understand. I will continue to easily complete these missions and make a boat load of money from them.
