there are a lot of things that suggest, both in lore and from in game behaviour, that there are two separate Thargoid species. One is believed to be hostile (Klaxians), the other peaceful (Oresrians). You've probably been murdering the peaceful ones.

HP's stream tonight was thrilling! I have been sat at Shinrarta in outfitting all night stuck watching those guys fight. Totally epic.
How do i say this without sounding like a grandpa, is it the new normal to have all that crud plastered everywhere?
It's the reason I gave up TV, too many adverts.

Not really. The thing flew around without shooting for 15 minutes. It was just a big bullet sponge. I have no doubt the ones that used the drones were tough, but not this last one. The only dmg any of the SDC ships took was when they accidentally collided with each other.
They were even talking on the stream about that.

Yeah, but as time goes you will probably see NPC's skirmishing them.
I wonder if we'll be seeing some patch notes 'fixing' stuff. The thargoids have been behaving erratically, with players being able to make them go 'dopey', not switch targets or not really attack all week. Other times they just seem to go mental and full on..
Cap ships in game dish out more damage than these do. and yet cap ships have supposedly been taken down by them
It's just puzzling that the ferocity(or lack of it) of these ones don't seem to match the carnage we've been led to believe or seen in game in the USS/distress signals.

When the Thargoid shields were down, did conventional weapons become effective?
I don't think there's anything deep going on here with FD building in multiple races and whatnot, I suspect this is just run of the mill AI bugs.
Some of them seem to be balanced well. A wing of 4 goes in, kills it, but they lose a guy or two. Sometimes it barely fights back and everyone goes all pips to weapons the whole fight.

I have finally managed to get away from the game after 4 thrilling fights with out new overlords and I can tell you right now that this is by far the best update we could of had! below I will detail how to defeat a Thargoid and SDC will be putting out a guide on how to do it too in the form of a video.
How to beat a bug:
1. Scan the Thargoid.
2. Shoot the Thargoid with AX Missile on the petal you want to attack.
3. Use normal weapons to attack the "Heart"(Red glowing thing)
3b. If the Thargoid closes the "Heart" go to step 2.
4. Once all "Hearts are destroyed use the AX Missiles to destroy the Thargoid.
The current Thargoids have 4 "Hearts", once its down to one or two it will begin using an EMP attack and a yellow lightning attack, these will disable your ship.

Meanwhile I already watched Harry's on Twitch earlier, the whole fight including figuring out how to actually go about attacking them and yeah, really nice job guys.
You can tell they fly together a lot, the teamwork and mutual understanding was really obvious and despite what a lot of people who have clearly just seen the picture in the OP and the name of the player who posted it before voiding their brains all over the forum seem to think, it was a bloody long fight not some ten second FIRE EVERYTHING mauling. Make the effort to actually watch the video and you might come away with a different impression.
