Unprovoked destruction by Thargoid?

Hello all!

Just thought I ought to speak of my recent encounter, as I have not yet heard of this happening. Today I was hyperdicted and immediately opened fire on by a Thargoid. My ship was shut down and did not show any sign of turning back on. Next thing; boom! Eject!

I'd be curious to hear if anyone else has had this experience? I have however recently had several encounters while searching for non human signal sources and dropping in on a Thargoid. When getting up to close they will open fire, especially if bumped. Of course we all know this already. Fortunately it is always easy enough to run out of range of their weapons. I have noticed when turning back around their drones are much, much slower than the Thargoid interceptor. Usually trailing it far in the distance. Thought i'd mention it. I've been pondering the possibility of capturing one... We'll see.

Thanks for your time. Look forward to hearing anyone's thoughts and/ or experiences.

Cheers,

CMDR Roads

So far no, but i guess it is a consequence of the escalation, as we brought out new weaponry and immediately had nothing better to do, than to open fire on so far pretty peaceful and curious aliens.

If they were peaceful and curious then they'd run rather than turn and fight. They'd also stop short of obliterating the offender.

The only reason they haven't been overtly hostile to everyone is because they consider us to be beneath them. Only when we make our point do they realize their mistake.

The hyperdiction event I experienced yesterday was similar to yours (I was running from an attacking Thargoid at a USS, though I had provoked it). I thought the computer had frozen because it seemed an interminable time that the ship controls went down, and the screen went black. Then it all started to come back on, and I was able to low-wake escape from a Thargoid at a fair distance from me.

The interdiction was different from what we saw in the pre 2.4 hyperspace interdictions ... I didn't experience one then, but saw several on Youtube.

In my case I was lucky. I had dumped the Thargoid probe before hi-waking out, so presumably the Thargoid after hyperdiction was therefore not aggressive. In your case .... don't know. Could be a variation on a theme.

FD have done well with this Thargoid interaction - there is a variability in responses that make them unpredictable and challenging.

People were reporting instant aggression from the Thargoids yesterday. Before the new weapons were available.

Did you have thargoid or guardian stuff in your hold ?

If you did, well, that's what caused them to attack.

Hey, no such stuff in my hold. And i'm completely unarmed. So this unwarranted attack puzzled me, I was wondering if its something new.

Your experience here sounds very much like mine. Similarly too, I'd never experienced a hyperdiction pre 2.4 despite actively going out trying for it. It was indeed different to the youtube clips i've seen. Thargoid interceptor immediately opened fire on me, drones and all. I actually also thought the game had frozen at first. Seconds before the ship ejected me, there was a flash from the console. Maybe it was booting back up, but it had been down much longer than in pre 2.4 hyperdictions.

As mentioned I'd had Thargoids pursue me after dropping in on non human signal sources earlier that evening. But this happened when I was jumping out from Maia, had been down to 5% hull integrity and needed repairs!

I do suppose its possible my ship would have rebooted, but simply blew up quickly as its just a Type 6. I don't have much time to invest in elite, so the Type 6 suits me well. Fast with good jump range and cargo capacity is ideal for my play style, just doesn't take hits very well.

Must agree, I do love the variability and how the Thargoids have been implemented overall. This attack was frustrating, but none the less fun and interesting.

I beleive one theory is it being the unfortunate combination of the EMP disabling your ship only for it to be inside the Thargoids personable space.

it gives the standard warning you are too close but having been EMPed you may not even be able to see let alone act and thus it attacks.

Salty salty salty. Aliens were abducting humans. What do you think would happen irl if aliens came down to earth and started abducting humans? We'd retaliate. And rightly so.
