I've decided to give 2.4 a try.

Sorry if you have already addressed this but, as you use port forwarding have you seen the changes that were made and the way you have to forward ports now? If not here is the link:
https://support.frontier.co.uk/kb/faq.php?id=344

One thing to note is you can only use ports 5100, 5101, 5102, 5111, or 5200 for ED now.

He doesnt care about help or advice, he doesnt want improvements. His preferred gameplay is complaining and back&forth sniping. Just nod politely, say his computer is amazing and his connection the hugest ever, and that ED is the worst. Back away slowly, do not make eye contact.

It's nice how from all the topics of constructive feedback, proposals, plans, hype, threads in here, discord and reddit, excitement for the next update, comments, helping newbies understand the game, several beta testing I had to pay for, bug reporting, bugs that prevented me from playing betas I paid for while helping the QA team solving the problem (and being happy for doing so), and much, much more over the last 2 years and a half, all that I'm remembered for is "He likes to complain, everything he says is noise blah blah I don't hear you, your opinions don't matter, back away slowly mate, he critiques the game so he hates it and he thinks it's the worst game ever".

This forum community is so toxic it's almost disgusting :)

Im talking about this topic, that you started. You discard all suggestions and advice and just keep rambling how toxic everyone is, hob horrible it is to offer advice, how stupid fd is and how amaxing your connection is.

Good for you, have fun. If you were sincere, you'd thank people, check it out and see if it helps. Not play the Calimero card about how poorly little you is being treated by evil community and fd. :)

You mean your post where you said the problem was my bad connection and then I answered I have a good isp?
Or the post where the user suggested to check again my port forwarding set up, to whom I left rep and I'll check the solution out when I come home?

Mate, don't ever call me a calimero, ever ;)
I draw a huge target on my back for speaking here every time I open my mouth, I've been downright insulted in this forum, but kept speaking because I loved the game and now I'm just bitter from what Elite could have been. I keep doing this because nobody else does this openly, I've been banned from reddit because I was a troublesome user who had a little bit too visibility with tens of thousands of views for thread and a little bit too big of a mouth. So I won't stay here with posters treating me like an idiot, blatantly and literally snubbing what I have to say because I should do so while trying working around frontier's unstable builds for myself.

And, in any case, this wasn't a post about server errors, but a general status of the game itself after 3 years, you just took a big magnifying glass and kept focusing on my disconnection issues, which are only a small part of the picture.

Haha, whatever you want, oh brave warrior. Noone but you dare's to speak out, you do so at great risk and your 'best in the country isp with 25mb/s download' must mean all settings are correct. Thats how networks work, everyone knows it.

Fine, carry on. God speed! :)

My internet is pretty much working as intended now. (It doesn't disconnect every 10 minutes! Yay!). And prior to 2.4 the game was running perfectly, except the odd server hiccup, during peak times in Open/Mobius. No CTDs for months.

Since 2.4 (and subsequently 2.4.01), I've had multiple CTDs, and many disconnects, and a few oddities.
And I've only played twice since 2.4 was released. lol

Something is definitely not right. But I don't know what it is.
Validating steam files seems to have sorted the crashes out for now, but I've not had much time to play to see if it fixed it long term.

25mb/s should be enough to play any games. Also, for the game to work correctly people shouldn't have to dig that deep into their settings and configs for their routers. That said, port forwarding is easy to do, well-documented and greatly improved things on my side. Also, 2.3 and 2.4 seems to have corrected many network bugs or might just be my imagination.

My multicrew experiences have gone exactly like Quester's have. Truthfully I have yet to experience a bug free and satisfying multicrew session since 2.3. I've tried many times yet they all end in any number of various network issues and crashes. The problem isn't my internet which works fine for the rest of Elite and other games as well, multicrew just seems wonky to me.

In the past few days I've had issues with the mission boards too, but I think that's just Frontier's servers overloading due to everyone flying in RHEA right now trying to do passenger missions.

Don't worry about Sleutelbos, he took your "Uhm...aaal right" as a huge personal insult & now has made it his life's mission to destroy you!

...besides, you contradicted him too - oooh "did not know who you were 'fussing' with!" [haha]

Fired up the game after months I'm pleasantly surprised the mission board in a system with 5 billion people has more than half a dozen tasks, finally I must say, it took them only 2 years to make it work. A shame though, now missions pay a few coins, the new rescue agency window pays also a few coins, but transport missions pay millions for a single jump 8 ly away. 10/10 for balance.

Since I felt a little rusty I decided to pick up a "destroy x generator in x settlement" kind of mission. It only worked correctly once, since later on it gave me the "server couldn't upload the total list of mission" error when I tried to access the list.

The planet I had to land on was a few thousand ls away, no biggie, almost reached the orbit and.. connection error, couldn't something something from the server. Had to make the trip twice. Huzzah.
A few minutes later I discover the settlement lays on the side of a huge mountain, I carefully landed my ship at 2 km from the structure in the only landing spot I found, sent the ship away and proceeded on the srv. After what seemed like an eternity of driving on very bumpy and irregular terrain I found the generator and shot it down, swiftly getting away on the only plain terrain there was, where I landed my ship before.

Ship says screw the conveniently plain lz and lands exactly on the rugged terrain, near the base, where turrets (or drones, can't say) were targeting it and bringing down the shields.
Once reached the ship I got completely stuck underneath the hull, because the irregular terrain couldn't let me fit through the cargo slot. Sent the ship away, I recalled it after 7-8 minutes of driving, since I wanted to get as fas as possible from whatever irregular terrain the game could have sent my ship on. Finally got back and discovered the left panel ui was completely unresponsive, it wouldn't switch tab from left to right. Had to exit and re enter the game.

On my way back I decided to try out multicrew, because the thought of jumping 28 times to reach Maia was giving me a headache.

First try was a no go for every single option available, tried a few minutes later again and ended up on an exploraconda. Rubberbanding, chat kept unfocusing every single time the pilot pressed the fdrive button making the conversation exquisitely frustrating, and a gorgeous perspective from inside the skull of my avatar, where I could see the eyebulbs and the fringe.

Second try I end up on a bounty hunting corvette where as soon as I got into the slf it gave me an error and sent me back to my ship.

Third try I finally found a seat on the xeno sight seeing multicrew option.
Very eerie and nice cutscene I must admit, after having seen it a few times it went kinda meh though and we decided to go visit the thargoid structure thing discovered a few months back since I didn't (and still havent) seen it yet.

Frameshift drive charging, 5..... 5
"Hey, is the countdown frozen to you too?"
"Yep"
Had to close the game from manager since the esc button was also unresponsive.

And still this day, people get wildly mad at me when I say this game, after 3 years, is an early access game in alpha disguised as full release.

I did not even waste my time "testing" 2.4. I just hope that what lies ahead can take the game away from early access.

OP is it so hard to understand that others may have had a different experience of the game and might be basing their opinion on their experiences not yours?

I've had nothing but positive experiences with 2.4 so guess what I'm happy.
You havn't and arn't.
You are perfectly justified to be unhappy with what you describe but then you start going on about early access etc and being confrontational, of course you get push back.

As this is a P2P game, your multiplayer experiences will only be as good as the weakest link. Elite Dangerous is not the only game to have these sort of problems either. They were quite rampant with Mass Effect: Andromeda, which also used P2P. Generally speaking, these are some variables that will influence your P2P experience:

1. The distance between you and your peers.
2. The quality of network between you, the ISPs, and your peers.
3. The quality of networking protocol and UDP packet handling implemented by FDev.
4. The quality of FDev's matchmaking server.
5. The PC performance of you and your connected peers.

From my own analysis, I've sometimes been paired with people on the opposite side of the country (over 4000 KM), which is quite high and generally not recommended for P2P connections. I have also seen some instances where I was paired with peers on the other side of the planet, which is very bad. I see that more as a fault with the matchmaking server.

It goes without saying, for the best P2P experience you'll want to find some local buddies and setup a private group. It's not the most immersive or convenient way to play, but it does guarantee you a quality level.

Agreed. You also cannot compare other games using a dedicated server with P2P games. Apples to oranges they are.

The general Servers have all been buggy since 2.4.. It'll be fixed when they figure out how they broke it. I wouldn't hold my breath though. Took 2 months after 2.3 for them to fix it.

This is entirely bovine droppings. The servers were a bust after 2.3 and they eventually fixed them. We're seeing the same thing after 2.4.

I wish people would get a clue. Typically connections do not get bad overnight and co-incidentlly do so only after ED releases.

If it looks like a pile of dung, works like a pile of dung, then it probably is, a pile of dung.

And I'll just add to this; Today is Monday, the first day of the working week, and the production servers have been patched. This is mind-numbingly stupid!! You never patch production servers until everything has passed test servers. And there is no way, they developed a fix, tested a fix, and then implemented a fix in a normal days operation. It has all the hallmarks of a panic fix. And it hasn't worked.

Roses are red,
violets are blue,
this game has problems
but all these whiners who just can't seem to let go of a game they clearly don't like make me shake my head sometimes, seriously.

Pretty much any download speed is enough for ED, its almost always an irrelevant statistic. I do agree that its not good that the performance depends so much on all kinds of settings, and ideally consumers shouldnt be bothered with it at all. But as you said, a lot of issues can be solves easily with proper settings, and anyone interested in a good performance owes it to themselves to check it. :)

2.4 switched upnp settings around. Switch em back and see if that works better for you.

I an flattered by your persistent efforts to follow me around and speak on my behalf, really. :)

Who said, ever, that I hate this game?
And who said that ffxiv is flawless?

Mate, triggered?

It's quite obvious that you do. When you list positives you stick the knife in at the same time.

Triggered? Not really, I like the nostalgia that your posts give. It's like a bygone relic that doesn't evolve. I open the forum today, first time in ages, and laugh when I see the thread. I predict what you'll post before I read it - more precisely, the acerbic style. Reassuring. It's nice to have a fixed unchanging point in time.

Thread title is wrong. You haven't decided to give 2.4 a try. So why waste your time on two fronts? I bet noone has changed their opinion either way one jot on reading your post.

I don't like FFXIV as much as you, but I'll refrain from constantly trolling the game on Square's website as I recognise that people like and dislike different things. It's really quite simple?

See you next update/patch/season.

Then why aren't I having any of the same problems that the Opie is having?
