For the next time something like the Rhea/LQ Hydrae thing happens . . .

Now that the long-supercruise-distance bonus had been hammered, maybe take a minute to ruminate about all the salt on the forums/reddit. All FDev had to do when the bug was discovered is to creatively find a way to explain that it was all planned, that FDev actually intended players to make a lot of credits, very quickly. Like this (using the Rhea/LQ Hydrae situation as an example):

Simply and quickly create a GalNet article explaining that it was recently discovered that the star at Rhea system is expected to go nova at any moment and generous [money] emergency funding has been made available as an incentive to get lots of CMDRs involved with the evacuation of Rhea system. Trillions of credits made generally available in order to save billions of innocent lives. Then, later explain the scientists were wrong, there is no expected nova but thanks for the help. [up]

This would have glossed over the obvious bug as well as giving many CMDRs, especially newer CMDRs a great, short-term path to a decent amount of credits. It would also have pre-empted all the salty tears flowing in the forums about how FDev cannot/chooses not to kill major programming bugs but has nerf sledge hammers at the ready to destroy any decent money-making opportunities. Since (IMO) most people do not read GalNet I do not believe many more people would have gotten involved than did so. o7

PS: This points out how easy it is to get lots of CMDRs involved in a CG when they are offered a proper incentive. I would bet that more people got involved at Rhea/LQ Hydrae over the weekend than got involved with the "Thargoid Menace". Money talks, walks. I would also bet that if rewards were higher for "Thargoid" materials more CMDRs would get involved with that CG too. o7

Would just like to reply to this part. So I spent a few hours on this trip and made a few hundred million, but it was not particularly fun... I would hate to see the thargoids become just another boring cash grind.

Absolutely. And I am sure there are plenty of CMDRs who heard about it and thought it was not worth their time to participate. But for those who did want to participate it was a great, if grindingly boring time. I was able to earn another rank and recoup the cost of my Cutter. I ground (grinded?) all weekend but earned around a billion credits. o7

I whish there was some kind of economics implemented.

System pays very well -> many commanders take missions -> payouts drop.
System pays very bad -> nobody interested -> payouts increase.

It would self sustain itself nicely. Of course there still should be bonuses for certain states, system types etc. Same should apply to trading.

Yep, BGS simulation could be improved. A lot these things could take of themselves with some acknowledgement of supply and demand.

I tried to use one of these bugs once. I lasted a hand-full trips back and forth, before the noting that this (grinding) isn't why I play Elite. It's fun to play the game, it's not fun to sit on a pile of money with no game play. If Elite is a mile wide and 'and inch deep' you're only making it shallower by removing the actual gameplay from the game. I put it on par with paying that Asian guy to level your WarCraft character to 80(whatever the level cap is) in 3 days. Its your choice to do so, all the same.

Also, there is no end game - you can't get there quicker than other CMDRs, nor will it open up more opportunities to try.
