So, it will be an online game then? Will be first time for the X series and they need to compete with other similar games
X games were never multiplayer and they never will be multiplayer. The moment they make a multiplayer game it is no longer the X series in the traditional sense.

In the meantime, I find strange that this very brief (accidental?) leak went by apparently mostly overlooked/ignored by the community:
And no official word on that from Egosoft either yet...
Possible they try to make it work but not sure they wil be able too. Better to test something first if it works then just hype it up and not delivering it.
I will wait until they officially announce a multiplayer before i get hyped for it and know more what it entails.
Strangely, I could list a lot of the features of Elite Dangerous and say they are not an "Elite" game simply because they haven't been in the game before. Maybe you forget or missed the fact that until Elite Dangerous, Elite was never a multiplayer game either.
I can honestly state that players have been requesting an online mode for the X series a lot longer than the Elite players have for the Elite series.
Correct, Egosoft had thoughts and projects for a X-Online as far back as '99-'00, practically from the first game of the series. Things remained at that stage for the time being though. As for that voice in the main menu, who knows? May as well be some left over from a pre-defined menu template, or any other thing, time will tell.
