Sag A* Gank

So, I'm en route to Sag A* via Colonia and have heard rumours of gankers/griefers/comedians hanging out at Sag A* popping explorers on arrival. Is there a way to avoid this (other than not going lol), perhaps which involves logging out as soon as I exit warp and see contacts on the radar?
I've found a few ELWs and will have my name on more than a few stellar objects as the discoverer so don't particularly want to get popped and have to do it again.
Ta CMDRs
Ps I've not got a heat sink (heard about the gabkers en route ya see) so running cold on entry isn't an option.

Highly unlikely you will be ganked out there. Keep your eyes on the scanner when you jump in, emergency drop to normal space if necessary (Double tap the FSD button)

You have more chance of dying from a stupid mistake enroute to SagA*

Run in Solo or Private mode if you are really paranoid..

Log out before jumping to Sag A*, start private mode and then jump on in? Makes sense.
Ok, as for the exit to normal drive, I've not been interdicted by a human player yet. Is it still the same minigame to escape? I'd have thought exiting to normal space would effectively put you dead in the water and make it easier to get you...?

Use Solo Mode and voila! no problem.

IMO this is exactly the sort of a**hattery that causes Open's participation numbers to dwindle.

FDEV, when are you planning on doing something about it? Want people to participate in Open? Perhaps it's time for you to be pro-active instead of re-active.

If you start boosting as soon as you finish your emergency drop, you'll get yourself further away from your would-be attacker, even before he drops in. By the time he arrives, you should be able to get out completely.

Been a long time since I heard of anyone being ganked at sag A...bout a year ago at least. Not saying it doesnt happen, but its extremely unlikely. If yer that paranoid, go solo till ye get in and do yer thing...exploration is pretty much as lone wolf as it gets so its unlikely to make much difference anyway.

Im about 4klys out just coming into the edge of the core now...no guns, no shields but I do have slf but those are fer fun purposes only ^

Scaremongering about how you are likely to get ganked and griefed every thirty seconds doesn't help. Outside of CG system of the week or other hotspots you really aren't.

I agree. On both occasions when I went to Sag A*, I met another commander. They were quite friendly, and in fact didn't have any weapons at all (unlike me - I was fully loaded :) ). So, yes be careful. But don't be too worried. It's a lot of effort to go to Sag A* to gank someone, and as it's already been done (as has Beagle Point now), there isn't much kudos to a ganker to repeat it (not to say that it isn't possible, just rather unlikely).

I would reccomend approaching your destination in Solo play if you are worried. Once you dock at a station go back to open, death will always spawn you at your last docked location.

lol, I guess you don't know how far away the closest station is to Sag A*? :) It would be a quick way back, but a rather disappointing end to the journey, I suspect.

Well you've got that part right. Given its popularity I had assumed there would be one. I would spend my entire time paranoid if I went exploring without a solid populated destination, or at least a backup plan.

I've been all around there, never had an issue, if you got the info from the wiki then that's quite outdated by now

Theres always one doomsayer , IMO taking a proactive approach to ship outfitting for combat or run from ganks is more a solution than anything else. .. though it means losing some precious min maxing.

Relying on the devs to fix a non issue wouldnt be the best approach, what if it takes place in an anarchy system? Do you expect crime and punishment there too?.

OP .. if you are that worried about it i would suggest like others have said, goto private group or solo until you sell the data or whatever.
