A $50 parts kit and a bit of technical know-how and a semi-automatic assault rifle becomes fully automatic in very short order.
That's the part in DC vs. Heller that gets dropped under the table by "gun activists":
"Although we do not undertake an exhaustive historical analysis today of the full scope of the Second Amendment, nothing in our opinion should be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms."

No, they will never learn... to read more of a text than what suits their agenda.

That must have been why throngs of Cuban people were risking deadly waters, floating here on wooden doors and makeshift rafts... because life was so awesome over there.

I made my argument - I told you that the United States is free to spend domestically as it sees fit and doesn't owe you explanation or apology for it.

So what about them?

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. Are you being sarcastic? (Actually, I don't think you are being sarcastic. Sorry man...)

I agree - everyone should have the right to possess the means to defend themselves.

no i m not, and forgive west europeans, they have lost their brave spirit and balls long time ago... Ppl on our continent are formated to be victims, and grow in the fear of weapons... Well in fact i can only talk about french ppl, but by reading some post, i assume other ppl are in the same boat...

Where are you getting your information? I think you may be conflating the hearing protection act bill, which concerns the use and sale of suppressors, with today's mass shooting. Not surprising, as misinformation about this one abounds. No information has yet been released about the weapons recovered from the scene, other than they recovered 10 rifles. Nothing indicates a suppressed weapon was used in this shooting. Quite the opposite in fact. Plenty of clips are out there.
There was no silencer used. He did however have a bump stock installed on at least one of his weapons to convert them to full auto.

Nevada is one of the easiest places to buy guns. Don't want to get a background check? go to the weekly gunshow.

Assault weapons should never be available to the general public. They are not a "hunting gun".
They have one purpose only: To Kill People Fast. The gunlove is out of control in the States. I will never go there again.

There is evidently a new fed law going thru the House right now to legalize silencers for the feeble excuse that it protect hunters ears.
What, these brave killers can't wear earplugs of soundproof head phones?

This same bill also wants to legalize concealed carry owners to bring their little guns to non conceal carry states for goodness' sakes!

There's another image showing a note on a table but I won't post it here, you can pm me for it. Anyone who's well knowledgeable on the firearms, give us your two cents!

Some questions, Are these guns automatic?, are they illegal? Would they be hard to obtain for an alleged multi-millionair that the shooter was, it's reported that he was an ex lookheed martin/ Nasa employee etc.

I do, in fact, think the second amendment has been interpreted correctly. By the US supreme court at least. So far.

I don't think anyone has argued that it gives carte blanche "to shoot at everything and everyone".

Yes, but what the law means / says and how the people interpreting it, after it's taken out of the context and historical situation what given birth of it? Just not the same.
How it currently interpretered by the judges, and what it meant? Yet again, Is not the same.

And how the average citizens are trying to bend and twist its words and supposed meaning goes even farer from what it meant to do.

Reciprocity. If State A is going to argue that State B must honor its marriage license, then State B is going to argue that State A must honor its concealed carry license.

Reciprocity.

Of course, if the individual states would all learn to just leave each other the hell alone, then none of this would be an issue.

lol - I think it was just a language thing :)

I`m not too sure what happened here but the following post was attributed to me and quoted by you,

"Here is your average voter. :)"

I didn`t post it and clicking on source points to my actual post as below.

I quiet liked Fidel, they have vastly superior healthcare for their citizens than the US, that says it all. The list shows how bankrupt your argument is.

What about fairness and justice v your big gun, no argument?

Can you rectify and delete or find its proper owner. Thks.

Boy this thread sure devolved fast. A real microcosm of what's going on in the world. Tragedy strikes and out come the political hacks. Why bother with focusing your efforts and thoughts towards the victims when you can score points for your argument.

And since this is an international forum, I guess all the countries represented here are bringing forth their best....

As you can see in the images it doesn't look like there were any supressors; Not sure how this conclusion was made in the first place - the gun shots didn't sound suppressed at all..

I think unjustifiable and immoral economic sanctions on the Cuban people for the last half century are the real cause you looking for. All for doing what America`s founding father`s did in throwing of the yoke of oppression and injustice. I think the signatories of the Declaration of Independence would find more in common with the Cuban people than the US establishment.

You never addressed the issue of international courts and justice denied v you big gun argument, again.

Think so, huh?

I said that if the world feels strongly about how we've conducted ourselves, they're welcome to send an army over here to make us account for it.

But neither of the things above have anything to do with gun rights in the U.S., and certainly nothing to do with Vegas.

Authorities are saying that the gunman had an "automatic machine gun" before relentlessly spraying bullets into a crowd, killing 50+ and injuring 400+. When police stormed the rooftop of a building the gunman was on, they discovered the man had took his own life. The body was identified as 64-year old Stephen Paddock. Reports are coming out saying that this may have been the deadliest ever shooting attack in modern US history.

As to what the reason was for his massacre is currently unknown. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility, however authorities have stated otherwise. The President has announced the attack to be an "act of pure evil".

Updates:

- Paddock has never had a criminal record, other than a traffic citation.
- Paddock lived a relatively happy life, he was wealthy and had a pilot's license, owned two airplanes.
- Paddock has no history of mental illness and wasn't facing any financial issues.
- A woman was yelling out to people "you're all going to die!" just less than an hour before the massacre.
- Two windows were found broken in the casino hotel, Paddock likely didn't stay in one spot to shoot people.
- Paddock wasn't showing any previous suspicious activity enough for him to be under surveillance beforehand.
- Ammonium Nitrate, an explosive chemical ingredient for bombs was found in Paddock's car.
- Despite the US's gun laws, automatic guns are illegal, such heavy weaponry like Paddock's fully-automatic machine gun cannot be purchased legally.
- The reason why Paddock had went on a rampage is still unknown.

First he did not have a machine gun. He had a converted AR 15. It looks like, at last news update, that he bought a conversion for them off the black market. But if you have the proper license in America, you can own a fully automatic weapon to include, yes, machine guns. So why don't we just let the officials do their work and then listen to what they have to say instead of listening to the NEWS media who obviously need to make up something to entertain their audiences. Of which most of their facts don't even come close to THE facts.

What is in the head of a crazy person and HOW do you tell he/she is crazy? Not everyone that is crazy looks different from you or me. So how do you tell?

The old "Might is right" argument of the oppressor, as I said its a shame for those that struggled to free themselves from oppression only to have there antecedents turn around and become a bigger version of that oppressor. The question has to be asked did the fight for American independence actually provide any lessons regarding the importance of justice and fairness or have they been just consigned to the dustbin of history.

To shot someone down you don't need balls only bullets and a gun.

I'll echo this. I've read the thread in full over the last 30 minutes and have to say that the last half-dozen pages have reflected badly on all of us as members of this community, irrespective of how you feel about gun control, or Trump ( - how has this become a thread to bash Trump?) or the balance of power between the state and the individual.

I can only imagine the horror and pain of a family who sent a loved one to a music festival in Las Vegas and ended up getting a call or catching the TV with the worst news ever.

That is exactly what is happening, the attacks will continue and will become more and more regular. Don't expect a conventional army, many people warned this would happen.

The invasion of Iraq was the catalyst and now the U.S and its allies will face the repercussions of their reckless behaviour.

Its called blowback & it wont end until the U.S and its subservient allies change their foreign policy.

(Pretty sure the LA attacks were "home-grown" however)

The U.S. has a really bad habit of ignoring mental health issues. Down to family level.
Anything but "I'm fine" does not seem to be an allowed answer. Anything but patting a 'friend' on the back and telling him "everything will be fine" an intrusion.
That his own brothers did not care enough to intervene is sad.

Not saying over here that works perfectly, but we do have a much tighter network and most of all free help, counseling and treatment.
Also less prescription drugs to gloss over cracks in the soul.
