Basic Conductors for Heat Sink Synthesis

Hey all,

Been reading this forum since I got the game on PS4, and enjoying it muchly. Been looking to take a long trek out into the black. Got out to Colonia and back a few months ago and enjoyed it. (Also took a trip to the “bottom” of the galactic plane – the views!) Now, this alien stuff has me creeped out, and I like the idea of disappearing until it settles down.

Brings me to the question that finally got me to register: Basic Conductors, where in the heck are they!? Read as many old threads as I could to try to find them… Tons of combat in conflict zones and combing through wreckage? Nope. Ship Wreckage from USS points in shipping lanes? Nope. Mission rewards? Nope (though, I maybe didn’t explore that option as thoroughly). Asking the Roidy 'Goids nicely? Hehe... nope.

Any tips? I fear what I had read, that the devs made this “common material” rarer since it, at one time, had no use. But, I’d love to find ‘em for Heat Sink Synthesis. I used up four of them to and from Colonia, mostly because I play at night and, when I start falling asleep (my usual indicator to stop playing), I have this habit of running into suns and getting toasty. :D

Thanks ahead!

I am in the same boat! Been looking around, but have largely given up. Luckily my Cutter has several utility mounts, so I may just fill them with heat sinks and power down the ones I am not ready to use.

Of course, I won't actually need any...

NOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

As for location I am too far away but Basic Conductors should be easy to find... https://inara.cz/galaxy-component/9/

Looks like you are going to have to blow up some harmless traders to fuel your evil lust for exploration!

I understand the "you need to prepare in advance" concept, for some aspects of exploration. But what I don't get, is why you would need to specifically do combat, in preparation for exploration. I'd understand if it was something you needed to buy, or something you needed to collect from salvage, etc. But combat? Not all explorers want to do that. Probably even fewer want to do piracy or murder.

Plus, from what I understand, heat sink ammo quantities were nerfed a while back, so that people wouldn't spam them in PVP combat. Now PVPers can synthesize reloads, and they have no problem with doing lots of combat.

In a way this reverts the PVP nerf, while not making things much easier at all for explorers. So in this particular case, it doesn't seem to add up well, or fully support the "prepare in advance" justification.

To me, preparing in advance is already pretty well covered by just choosing whether to install heat sink launchers at all, and how much mass you're willing to devote to that.

To be fair the last time I went camping the only way I could get some aluminium tent pegs was by blowing up a delivery van and salvaging its wiring loom.

Bizarrely not a single of these looms was available in a scrap yard.

Total shame someone had to die but then camping these days is a tough gig!

And the last time I needed to start a camp fire, I discovered that it required a fresh spleen. But not any spleen will do. No, the only correct spleen to use, has to come from librarians specifically. Camping has gotten quite complicated. ;)

Good info -- thanks for the hook-up!

I take it any Type 6 - Type 9 crafts would be your typical trading vessels? Maybe I can find some wanted fellas with other counterfeit goods?

I believe another option for non-combat players to acquire materials from freighters is to drop into "Combat Aftermath" signal sources. If my memory is at least close to accurate, they contain shot up freighters and the mats associated with them without having to hunt trade ships.

Correct!

Thanks for all the tips! Combat aftermath in USS areas didn't do it for me. Probably went through 20 without a hit. Not to say it's impossible, but unlikely at the least.

Instead, I sat at a Compromised Nav Beacon in an Anarchy system. It was chaos! People shooting everyone. Maybe that doesn't surprise you, but me, stlll being new to the game? :O Hence... I didn't feel too guilty snagging some Haulers, Keelbacks, and Type-6/7/9s. They were even labeled as "lawless," so it felt justifiable. And, while not every one of these dropped basic conductors, I was able to farm 18 in about 2 hours. I had 6 drops between 5 ships, with Type-7s being the the most likely (responsible for 3 of the drops).

So, 9 heat sink refills should set me up reeeal nicely for the black! Don't know if I can say the same for my character's mental health, however... He might start getting haunted by something worse than "space madness" out there. Ghosts of freight captains, perhaps? [knocked out]

Anyway, that would be my recommendation if you're looking for basic conductors: seek out LIVE traders where you can... which makes all your camping references quite apt. :D

Just want to add... glad I jumped into the forums! Nice to have a resource for a game like this. LOVE the work Frontier's done, but like anthing else, it's not perfect. These forums, however, make the game experience waaay better. Probably won't post much, but I already appreciate the community and looking forward to being a part of it here and there.
