[Really Annoyed] I'm boycotting AEGIS CG's until the Thargoid fiasco gets cleared up

Same. Will be ignoring all future Aegis CGs.

A massive effort and time placed into these with 18 million tonnes and 15 million tonnes that frontier disrespects by nerfing the weapon 1 week later.

No thanks.

Galactic News: Thargoids Adapting Rapidly

Admiral Tanner’s statement is reprinted in full below.

“Preliminary reports indicate that although the AX missiles were inflicting significant damage on the Thargoid ships’ ‘heart’ modules, they are now proving less effective. We believe this is due to the Thargoids developing a resistance to the compound carried by the missiles. I am optimistic, however, that the current Aegis initiative will produce weapons capable of overcoming this resistance.”

Um, no Admiral Tanner, it's because those missiles we were in the middle of carrying into thargoid dogfights suddenly had their key damage statistics reduced. Try firing them at something non-thargoid if you don't believe me.

This is god-modding, and was a rude thing for FD to do overnight. I was neck-deep in man vs. alien combat, was almost at the point of taking out Heart #4, when I had to call it a night... 1:30am, work the next day. Right there, that was as far as my self-set challenge to beat a thargoid was ever gonna get.

Pretty gutted.

No, I don't want to "work to earn more weapons via community goals" (ie. mass repetition of a single task).

No, I don't want to wing up with 9 other players and alpha-strike a Thargoid Cyclops Variant. That wasn't my goal! My goal was to refine and learn, improve, and take one down with the weapons I'd bought and fitted.

Do you know how much time I spent just messing with power prioritisation in my FdL, to get 4 x AX plus a useful conventional weapon for 'between-the-heart' shield attack?

Messing about with Hull and Module reinforcement, trying 'em out?

In terms of credits alone, shipping the FdL over, plus sacrificing three of them to learn by doing/dying? Expensive.

I, too, am out. I may be stupid, but I'm not stupid. ;)

So you would be out also if it was buff for Thargoids I am right?

So fact that it was just rockets changed, does not really change a thing for you?

Alight then :)

I've decided to boycott not only because the Thargoid content is poorly implemented, but because the nerfs continue to make new and casual players second class citizens.

Sorry, but new players and casual players - right at the start of the release, when we have sheer barebones in equipment released to take them out - SHOULD be second class compared to the toughest PvE challenge in game.

Hmmmmm.

I once wandered in to a lvl 50~ area of Guild Wars II by accident, when I was only lvl 11, and was more or less Insta-killed by the first thing I came across.

My choices were;
1) Realise that content isn't for me yet, and don't go there until I'm level 50~.
2) Keep going there, and keep dying.
3) Take a load of friends I didn't have there, so we can potentially die together.
4) Sign up for the GW2 Forum to tell them I'm not going there again until it's made easier.

Most people chose 1. Some choice 2.
Players looking for lolz chose 3.

Elite Dangerous players choose 4.

:p

I used a "The Long Dark" analogy last night. Lemme reach for that again, and see if it helps explain.

If Hinterland Studios suddenly thought to themselves, "blizzards should be more dangerous for the player to get caught in; we need to address this!", then...

A. They could choose to apply a hotfix that could have blizzards turn from bad to horrendous, and God help the lone survivor caught out in one.

B. They could choose to double how much the wind-chill factor or cold saps the player's temperature.

C. They could instantly reduce the warmth of DEERSKIN PANTS and BEARSKIN JACKET, which take days and days to kill, skin, lug home, cure and craft.

Option C would mean those in the middle of a game of "The Long Dark" will read, Your furry pants and jacket are now 1/20 as warm as before, and would likely have a negative reaction to that.

Because it is not an example of good stewardship of the game world.

Neither is this, which appeared in the overnight patch...

  • Reduced the ArmourPiercing value of Anti-Xeno Dumbfire Missiles from .05 to .001

...when I was very engaged by using them in a challenging scenario.

Make the blizzards/thargoids as cold/aggressive as you like. Don't make my missiles useless, or my furry pants thin, though, as that's poor stewardship of the game world.

However, the game mechanics, as implemented, require you to play in large groups because fdev are too lazy to implement a scaled response (e.g. more Thargoids dropping into the instance to balance the number of players)

I don't know, that would be like totally boring and would get same criticism as one you're raising now.

agreed with salty rant

The fact we have to grind a c.g for grindgoid content (weapons) is stupid and tedious.

How many weapons are they going to make? Ax copies of all weapon types? 10 more c.g's?

Never saw and never will see Thargoid. I actively avoid them and zones where they might be. Live and let live. I don't think killing those poor creatures is sensible. They don't seem to attack us unprovoked. We should try to establish diplomatic relations and not more stuff to kill them. No wonder they hate us more when only thing we do is shoot them and scrape them for DNA.

OP: today is the day that oil update hits live version, time to build some refineries!

Spoiler alert on thargoids if i were lazy developer here's some cheap plot i'd do:

Thargoids - unkillable harmless - killing us untouchable - first new weapon we kill them - they adapt - new weapon - they adapt - new weapon - they adapt - new weapons - they adapt - desperate search for their homeworld and source - stealth gathering of exploitable permanent weakness - upgraded and fixed weapons that kill them like nothing - peace/extermination/endless CG chase for new weakness

Possible plot twist - more thargoid factions that hate other thargoid factions help us find permanent weakness / thargoid traitors who betray their race / some of the humans are disguised thargoid spies

Enjoy possible full 2.4 patch.

Bingo. Me too.
Slapped a load of HR plates onto "The Weatherwax" and hauled over.
I was in Mobius and still didn't see anyone to group with. Decided to solo one but realised I forgot my SLF bay. Silly me! Was going to find one then this dropped.

Nah. Not going to bother now. Got other games to play frankly. So much for pulling me back into our Galaxy.

The sad thing is that the new CGs REALLY made me feel like we were working together for a common goal. Hey ho

I went to Merope last night and bought 8 AX launchers to make my ships Thargoid ready...
Just checked the forums, it was all for nothing it seems. (at least untill thery are fixed).

I can't believe FD would take the time and effort to make new weapons and render them useless within a week.

BTW, do they work against normal ships?

Trolling aside, this is more reasonable a complaint than in OP.

Elite Dangerous players are older people who enjoy their whiskey peace and quiet and explore wonders of galaxy while having families and not spending their whole days behind computers. Just saying.
