[Really Annoyed] I'm boycotting AEGIS CG's until the Thargoid fiasco gets cleared up

Bingo. Me too.
Slapped a load of HR plates onto "The Weatherwax" and hauled over.
I was in Mobius and still didn't see anyone to group with. Decided to solo one but realised I forgot my SLF bay. Silly me! Was going to find one then this dropped.

Nah. Not going to bother now. Got other games to play frankly. So much for pulling me back into our Galaxy.

The sad thing is that the new CGs REALLY made me feel like we were working together for a common goal. Hey ho

I reckon I'm in agreement with both of you. If the response to the whole invasion thingy is managed and reacted to by the use of multiple CG to develop ever-better weapons, it's not a great deal of fun. I flew out there, dragged a couple of extra ships with me, and then I thought... why?

It's probably too soon to make a fair assessment of how it's all going to be handled, but initially, I'm not engaged.

Perhaps it would have been better to make it a real invasion... a slow creep towards the bubble from Thargoid space. A scout ship here and there, a few hyperdictions. Some encounters where the CMDR shoots and probably dies, or does nothing, and lives. Step it up over time with more scouts, perhaps a new Thargoid ship-class. The odd sighting within the bubble. Possible interdictions, more hyperdictions. Talk about new weaponry or shields at a slow pace.

Maybe not a slow creep - maybe a blitzkrieg and a few human sectors taken over and lost to a new Thargoid "faction". Use the new faction to inject some life into the powerplay corpse.

Instead, we have a few quick CGs throwing out new weapons inside a fortnight, with more to come within a couple of days. What's after that? More CG and more weapons?

Elite Dangerous players are older people who enjoy their whiskey peace and quiet and explore wonders of galaxy while having families and not spending their whole days behind computers. Just saying.

While it is not even remotely true - especially older people just playing explorers - what would be even wrong with that?

I hope FD will have the good sense to do something like that. Invasion with Thargoids in PP. Creeping doom style.

I have hope that what we have now is a squirmish with a scouting party, and that the real fun will start when humies will be like (after killing quite of bunch of "scouts") "Well, that wasn't so hard was it"

>> come in the thargoid equivalent of the capital ships...

I mean, if PP and all that was not build with such idea in mind, then truly I have no faith in FD to deliver anything more than shiny mini-games stringed together and most of season 2 was a waste.

<snip>

I, too, am out. I may be stupid, but I'm not stupid. ;)

With you on that. Like you and many others, I invested a fair bit of time preparing a ship. I (and a wing buddy) had the last heart down to 31%... I am now totally demotivated because of these changes made by FDev. What's the point unless I'm prepared to a) put in a load more effort refitting my ship and b) play as party of a Thargoid hunting party of a dozen or more players... This is just crap game mechanics to me.

These players are going to have a really bad time of it when the rest of the thargoid fleet is released, and i cant tell you how happy it would make me to see the developers only give those who have contributed to the aegis CG's access to the new tech. That would make my day right now.

Hmmmmm.

I once wandered in to a lvl 50~ area of Guild Wars II by accident, when I was only lvl 11, and was more or less Insta-killed by the first thing I came across.

My choices were;
1) Realise that content isn't for me yet, and don't go there until I'm level 50~.
2) Keep going there, and keep dying.
3) Take a load of friends I didn't have there, so we can potentially die together.
4) Sign up for the GW2 Forum to tell them I'm not going there again until it's made easier.

Most people chose 1. Some choice 2.
Players looking for lolz chose 3.

Elite Dangerous players choose 4.

:p

CMDR Cosmic Spacehead

Except in guild wars 2 doesn't t exist solo mode...

That's what they said about the Catalan vote :)

It's offtopic, and I would want to avoid to comment to that but yes, it can clearly be said also about that particular event (as: it is huge smoke bomb at the moment).

As for Thargoids and people being salty - have seen this thousand times. People want dynamic changes and in same time despise them (boooo, where's my slaves buying station with PP and BGS changes, boo, why I can't get module X in this station? Give them all EVERYWHERE). They will get over it, calm down and will be back playing or will move on to find something more rewarding and entertaining to do.

I'm voting with my feet. No more Aegis CG's until this Thargoid farce gets sorted out... [mad]

I stupidly believed that the Thargoid content was for all... However, the game mechanics, as implemented, require you to play in large groups because fdev are too lazy to implement a scaled response (e.g. more Thargoids dropping into the instance to balance the number of players). The current game play is a really lousy game implementation FDEV! Did you think this up all by yourself? So very disappointed and annoyed with you that words fail me.

I'm going to go play Oxygen Not Included until some common sense prevails at the very least.

I'm really really angry at the moment.

JFC...

Only fiasco i see is these salty players who dont even know what theyre talking about. This whole Thargoid story has only just began and people already complaining.
Im boycotting players like you. Thxbye.

Galactic News: Thargoids Adapting Rapidly

Admiral Tanner’s statement is reprinted in full below.

“Preliminary reports indicate that although the AX missiles were inflicting significant damage on the Thargoid ships’ ‘heart’ modules, they are now proving less effective. We believe this is due to the Thargoids developing a resistance to the compound carried by the missiles. I am optimistic, however, that the current Aegis initiative will produce weapons capable of overcoming this resistance.”

Um, no Admiral Tanner, it's because those missiles we were in the middle of carrying into thargoid dogfights suddenly had their key damage statistics reduced. Try firing them at something non-thargoid if you don't believe me.

This is god-modding, and was a rude thing for FD to do overnight. I was neck-deep in man vs. alien combat, was almost at the point of taking out Heart #4, when I had to call it a night... 1:30am, work the next day. Right there, that was as far as my self-set challenge to beat a thargoid was ever gonna get.

Pretty gutted.

No, I don't want to "work to earn more weapons via community goals" (ie. mass repetition of a single task).

No, I don't want to wing up with 9 other players and alpha-strike a Thargoid Cyclops Variant. That wasn't my goal! My goal was to refine and learn, improve, and take one down with the weapons I'd bought and fitted.

Do you know how much time I spent just messing with power prioritisation in my FdL, to get 4 x AX plus a useful conventional weapon for 'between-the-heart' shield attack?

Messing about with Hull and Module reinforcement, trying 'em out?

In terms of credits alone, shipping the FdL over, plus sacrificing three of them to learn by doing/dying? Expensive.

I, too, am out. I may be stupid, but I'm not stupid. ;)

Wow - really? So they just reduced the damage output of the weapon on everything? Which means they can't reduce the damage on thargoids on their own? So if you shoot another player your missiles are inexplicably weaker?

So this means more CG's to get more weapons - this is the "content released over weeks" is it? CG - TG's adapt - CG - TG's adapt....

Isn't it the goal of the CG to release a new anti goid multi cannon?

We were probably never intended to be able to take the Thargoids with just AX missiles. They are for activating the hearts and the new MC, is for destroying it.

This is my guess.

Way to jump to conclusions. We don't even have the whole set of armaments or targets yet.

You are so totally right about that...

But let's reflect a little on the history of development over the last year or two shall we?

RNGineers... Game mechanics not significantly changed
Guardians... Game mechanics not significantly changed
Multicrew... Game mechanics not significantly changed
Thargoids... Game mechanics...

FDev do not have a history of fixing broken game mechanics which doesn’t bode well for the current issues. Call me pessimistic, but I can't see them implementing any sort of scaled Thargoid response, so Goid Ganking is the only game in town...

That's why I'm angry...

We can all guess about FDev intentions, the problem here is that isn't the way it was implemented, executed or explained. and that is what has got people triggered in this case (and it's not the first time)

What do you mean significantly?

Guardians and Multicrew are essentially adding avatars and additional stuff you can do on ship. What very significant gameplay changes does that require?

Engineers are essentially allowing modding modules...again, it is really extension of existing gameplay. What should really change there?

Thargoids are just a story and really didn't advertise any new gameplay anyway.

We can all guess about FDev intentions, the problem here is that isn't the way it was implemented, executed or explained. and that is what has got people triggered in this case (and it's not the first time)

Why would you want to explain story induced change?

People got triggered due of them not being able to pew pew Thargoids. simple as that.

No worries, you can spend the next month or two grinding your face off in trade CGs to unlock them for us since you're obviously so pleased with it as a way of gating content.

The evidence we have as of today is the the weapons unlocked in the first CG were God-modded into uselessness yesterday less than a week after we acquired them. Anything beyond that is theorycrafting. When we have different evidence available that shows something else, I'm sure people will factor it into their thinking.

People got triggered due of them not being able to pew pew Thargoids. simple as that.

Nah pretty sure you'll find that in addition to that, people are annoyed at the whole concept of deus ex machina God-mod interventions and also the specific fact that they put time into a CG to unlock something which is as of today as much use as wing mirrors on a submarine.

I am also annoyed at the fact I can't pew-pew a Thargoid but you need to think why that is - it is because the gameplay revealed after the new missiles went live suggested that I should be able to. That's not my fault mate; it's not some crazy expectation that I developed for no good reason, it is actual gameplay that I watched other people enjoy but then had literally removed from the game by the devs right at the moment I was about to engage with it. Is it really such a reach to see why that is incredibly frustrating to some people?

Why? Because it would spoil your Ganking fun and level the threat level even if 20 cmdrs dropped into an instance?
Wow, I have never taken out player pilot, so no ganking for me. As for scaled response it is really hard to do, it never works reliably by just adding more enemies and it is predictable and boring in the end.

BTW, do they work against normal ships?

They did, I did a few hours field testing them in haz res before engaging the Thargoids because I wanted to learn how to use these weapons and understand their fire power. I could take down an Elite conda reasonable well with them. Post-nerf I wouldn't try that again in a hurry...
