IT’s probably a noob question but i am setting of for my first discovery trip with a diamondback explorer equipped with a vehicle hangar. So I scan the systems and the planets to earn money. But is there any financial gain in landing on the discovered planets?
There are no noob questions, only questions. No judging here, the people on the exploration subforum are kind and laid back.
There is no monetary gain from landing. However, please note that landing will allow you to:
- Discover materials which, for the first time only, immediately count towards your exploration rank.
- Collect materials that will allow you to refill your AFMU.
- Collect materials that can refuel, rearm, repair your SRV.
- Collect materials for synthesizing limpets if you carry a repair limpet controller.
- Collect materials for FSD boosts if you want to dabble in sparse areas high above and below the galactic plane and at the galaxy rim.
- Have fun driving in alien worlds and uncovering lovely vistas.
Using a DSS (Detailed Surface Scanner) will show you the materials you can prospect from a landable planet.
Feel free to ask more questions; the only bad question is the one that was never asked.
Edit: Forgot to say that landing on high G planets (over 2G) needs to be done with care or you risk ship destruction. There are excellent guides around for showing the technique. And always carry shields, because if you bump lightly on the ground while landing they absorb the damage up to a point (not on high G planets).
