As it has been pointed out already, other forms of violence have risen to prominence in those countries.

There are always violent {recums} in every nation. We can't entirely get rid of violence. Those other forms of violence are much, much less lethal though, and we are generally better equipped mentally and physically to deal with them.

You are still pretending that removing guns from the equation doesn't make people safer. It does. Massively so.

The wealthiest, most powerful nation on Earth, with unprecedented levels of prosperity, freedom, and upward mobility? Check.
When so many are that poor, relatively, in a country with that much wealth, the only way is up. Right? Do you bump into things often? I only ask because you seem to be blind.

Anyway, The Donald tonight announced that it was "wonderful" to meet some victims of a mass shooting. He has the command of English equivalent to a seven year old. Tillerson called him a moron; this is not without basis in reality.

It was discussed in the DC v Heller decision, though I think (because I haven't read the sections in a while) that it was left pretty open-ended. The general idea being that weapons commonly related to militia service, i.e. small arms that can be carried by the common soldier. .

But this is already not the case.

To match the "militia" gear with present day equivalents, I'd want a good assault- or battle rifle, some hand grenades, proper ballistic protection and an RPG-7 / LAW eqivalent light weight rocket launcher.

Oh, and I'd also need a number of similarily equipped mates, one of which carries a light machine gun and another with at least a Stinger for some anti-air protection.

But guess what? A lot of that stuff is such that Uncle Sam wouldn't let me have it even if I was a citizen. Maybe the militia angle is actually . These days there's a standing army and a police force which have taken over the "security of the state" duties.

What might it mean though? Can you imagine what might happen now? Registering trucks? Requiring insurance for injury they caused? Licensing and testing drivers?

Exactly that. Self driving trucks are also on the way. Steps are being taken to make sich attacks harder to pull off. Nobody is screaming about how "the right to keep and drive trucks shall not be infringed"

As I previously posted...

It may be objected that if weapons that are most useful in military service—M-16 rifles and the like—may be banned, then the Second Amendment right is completely detached from the prefatory clause. But as we have said, the conception of the militia at the time of the Second Amendment’s ratification was the body of all citizens capable of military service, who would bring the sorts of lawful weapons that they possessed at home to militia duty. It may well be true today that a militia, to be as effective as militias in the 18th century, would require sophisticated arms that are highly unusual in society at large. Indeed, it may be true that no amount of small arms could be useful against modern-day bombers and tanks. But the fact that modern developments have limited the degree of fit between the prefatory clause and the protected right cannot change our interpretation of the right.

That will be a hard hit for American truckers. Over 3 million (my sister in law used to truck .. it's good money but also very taxing and makes stuff expensive).
Now would be the time to requalify.

Again, "citation required". Fairly sure China might have something to say about it for one thing.

Yeah, depends on what metric you use to define "wealthy," I think there are at least some respected economists that would argue that China has a larger GDP than us. Or will, soon (I'll set aside the significant issues with how they got to that point and the house of cards many economists believe it's based on) Whether I agree, I'll give that it is an issue subject to debate.

I don't think there's any argument though that there's any single nation more powerful than the U.S.... if you need a citation for that, it's just not a point worth arguing.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear tactical nuclear warheads in the 5-10 kiloton yield range, shall not be infringed."

It seems that my one off-topic retort has thrown the entire thread into turmoil.

Can we please get back on-topic?

Right.. and there are many issues that may seem hard-and-fast in the constitution that just doesn't apply anymore. for instance, the "$20" amount in controversy (which was a heck of a lot back then, but not in any way a bar to the courts today); or limitations on freedom of speech.
things change, things advance, and so do we.

If this is your freedom? Than you can keep yourself, but you can be sure as hell we don't want it, and rather find our own.

You know? there was an internet "ace pilot" whom once tough better than me the newb. I beaten him. Awfully! And after that, he started to talked to this nonsense as freedom... Result? Beaten him some more.
You know why? Because this is not freedom but a nightmare. Especially when some anarchist idiot trying to force it down on your throat.

Edit; Also worth to mention that moron ended up in FBI no fly list what means he is branded as a terrorist. So much about the American guns = freedom religion. So you know what? :) Do not try to sell us this we are not buying it.
