Bought python. Now I understand.

I switched out of a well engineered Gunship to a python (they use nearly all of the same internal parts!)

It’s faster than my Gunship
It’s more maneuverable than my Gunship.
Three large Hardpoints. Two medium. Holy crap...
All of the internal space to fit everything.
21LY jump range loaded out, not 15.5.
Shields. Around 750 with the same g5 thermal modded 6c. Not 400.
Why the hell did I ever fly anything else?

Question 1: combat build.
Three large plasma and two gimballed multis? That heat though.
Or three large multis and two rail guns? That spinup though.

I like to have a couple of fixed weapons. I love rails and plasma, though I’m only really good with the former. I dislike lasers, especially pulse.

Question 2: Powerplant mod, is G1 or G2 armored with an efficient secondary okay? I have enough power for everything so far, 30MW on a 7A is fantastic.

As long as you are running at .4 efficiency (or close) on the PP you can run 3x Plasma. It helps that you want to use multis as the secondary, they won't interfere at all. You might also want to a bit mindful on your DD roll, you don't want the heat penalty to be excessive with heat intensive weapons as well. I personally run with a G1 armored, efficiency secondary on the PP as well and can recommend that.

In short I have yet to find a load-out that doesn't work on the Python, literally it's only flaw is that it's a bit slow, top speed wise.

And... if you engineer the FSD, it can become a decent trading / passenger hauling ship as well. It is the GOTO ship for anything that doesn't offer a large landing pad, no matter what you do in the game (play the BGS, doing trading runs, BH etc).

It is an awesome ship.

I think the 2 large hardpoints on top of the ship are too far apart to use fixed weapons effectively. I had good success with using fixed weapons in the bottom large and two mediums, with gimballed weapons in the remaining 2 large hardpoints.

I'll have to try it again someday, but I just couldn't justify the costs to outfit it once I realized that I could buy a Anaconda for the money.

YOu can buy a conda for the money, but not outfit it for something like CZ combat. What does the reactive armor cost on it? 300+ mil? (I still want a conda by the way. Someday)

under 2.4 a Python (engineered, naturally) is THE ship to use for mission running, seeing as the most lucrative deals come from outposts rather than stations, in my experience

my general build carries 200t, SRVs, ADS, an SCB, 3 Efficient pulse turrets and 2 Efficient beam turrets
i have one special build that foregoes the SRVs and SCB but with a 240t load. occasionally i'll find 2 high-paying hauls for 120t each to the same destination, or very nearby. either build can kill any NPC attacker with ease.

if you don't want to bother with fickle whiney passengers and prefer taking cargo, the Python is your mission money spinner

My Python weapons loadout is usually 2 Efficient medium pulse turrets (Scramble Spectrum / Emissive), 1 Efficient large gimballed beam laser in the bottom hardpoint, and two Overcharged large gimballed multicannons, where one has the Corrosive special effect. Chews through most things in a very short time.

Two medium beams, efficient modded.
Three large Multicannons, all High Capacity modded, 2 with Incendiary, 1 with Corrosive.
Enjoy.

What is there not to love :)

welcome to the python club ;)
2 x lazars 1 turret 1 gimb. efficient.
2 x multi-cannon extra ammo 1 corrosive 1 heat.
1 plasma cannon. added glare.
psu 40+.
heat doesn't affect me much, power usage is pretty stable even with 1 laser firing continually.
I have kept some secrets :)

Full multis, all overcharged, 3 x incendiary, 1 x corrosive, 1 x vanilla. Shields > powerplant > goodnight.

Does it have small ammo clips? Yep. Is that a problem with 5 overcharged multicannons? Not even slightly. :D

3 gimbaled laser beams, and 2 MC modded with corrosive shells. This puppy eats Anacondas for breakfast (PVE).

I'm w/ Red, except I have one 3 plasma, kicks any NPC butt, even multiple Elite Anancondas (they do need to make them tougher).

If I only had to pick one ship (I would hate to give up my Corvette), it would be the Python hands down.

This is my build also

It is like a I win button, pew pew, dakka dakka, enemy destroyed :p

Enjoy your new ship, get a paint skin or several & maybe a body kit- GO WILD

Fly safe and have fun

As a single ship Python owner, I’ve player the last year and a half with just that. I appreciate a good Python thread. My whole game is all about engineering my baby.

first things first, get your G5 dirty drives!

for fixed weapons. I recommend using the class 3 and 2hard point on a single side. They converge really well.
My current all rounder that I’ve fought against CMDRs and NPCs.

Right side class 3 and 2 , plasma accelerators.
Nose class 3 gimbaled beam, G5 efficient with thermal vent.
left side class 2 Pack hound rack, large clip mod with drag
left side class 3 gimbaled multi cannon, G5 overcharged with corrosive.

I run two fire groups.
group 1 primary are plasmas, secondary is the beam. This is my alpha shield attack
group 2 primary is beam and multi cannon, secondary is packhound. This is the finishing group.

Just got back into Elite after a hiatus. Rolling my Python again feels so good. It's not even engineered. Have prismatics though and it's performing as good as ever. The Python is THE ship for pretty much everything. I don't feel too much at loss after the updates, but maybe a little underpowered. However...it's still earning me credits. Having fun. Can't all be bad :)
