Fed/Imp rank up missions go to your inbox.

I just feel it would make more sense that they send you the missions directly, and if not that have a location sent to go to pick up the mission. This would solve all the waiting, and lead to a more streamlined experience. You could even do this for engineer invitations as well.

This, I positively endorse. As it stands it's already being controlled by RNG/Availability and location. It would be annoying as all get out of town if I got a promotional mission for moving industrial sized washers for Sol while I'm in Ceos/Sothis.

But it can also be hellishly motivating to accept it if it has a time limit to be done, and if you miss it and you end up having to back to the same RNG look around for it.

Nope, would make more sense if there was a military presence in the galaxy. Where are the military bases and stations that can only be accessed by people with rank? Supplying military level equipment and rank locked ships? That should be the place to go to increase your rank and get your rank up missions.

No, this is not true.. As someone that served in the military we were often notified by the CO of the garrison when a promotion is in the works, coupled with getting a letter in the mail at our home address. If this promotion required a test for the increase in rank, we would be notified weeks in advance of it. By mail and the recommended prep requirements for the tests.

The OP wasn't saying that we would be getting unlocked ships or ship locations for it. He merely mentioned the rank up tests for promotion being delivered to your inbox.

Aww, I was doing a cargo run for a community goal, and got a random message from someone I'd never heard of. Was that a chance to rank up that I missed?

Ha ha ha... Probably not as this is a suggestion, not implemented. Sounds like a change in direction for something or the dreaded tip off missions I occasionally got in Ceos/Sothis. In any case, nothing to see here. Truck on.

Phew, that's good news, thanks for that. Wonder what that was then? It was a message with a job attached to it...weird!

This is....this is such a *genius* suggestion in it's simplicity I kinda wonder why it hasn't been suggested or implemented before. 200% enthusiasm on this, and screw it, +rep for the OP for posting o7

I've been trying to rank up with the empire lately and thought of the same thing.
Would be even better if the missions that appear in your inbox would send you to a military station where you can have a choice in rank up missions.
Supply, data, mining, salvage or combat missions all tied into some kind of war effort narrative and have the same effort vs reward ratio.
With missions getting harder as your rank rises.

But just to start off, a simple inbox message like, "The Imperial/Federal navy has taken notice of your continued support for the Empire/Federation. Travel to station "x" to join/assist the navy in it's efforts to protect the Empire/Federation." would be a lot better than the current situation and shouldn't be too hard to implement.
