WARNING- New Possible thargoid weapon

Was just testing MC's on thargods whilst collecting skin sample, sample collected but nothing in cargo bay (so I assume it wasn't the cargo)

I then get a hud warning (unknown substance detected) then after about 10 seconds of running to escape, EVERYTHING permanently shuts down (only a few modules had 3% the rest 0%) and I was stuck helpless as it continued to shoot at me and eventually destroy my Gunship.

Now, I was unaware of any launched projectiles by the thargoid, but I can almost rule out the cargo as the cause (as I simply did not receive it) .

If anyone has any info on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Take care!

The Tissue samples are Cargo, but the limpet can be destroy on returning it to you (you lowered your cargo hatch yes?)

Not sure about the "only a few modules had 3% the rest 0%" other than a Caustic Missile, but I thought that just damaged hull

You are the 3rd person to report this. And let me tell you. is something new

Is it possible that the sample collected isn't a cargo but something that deteriorates the ship upon contact?

Because by description, the research limpet just breaks off a part of the Thargoid and take it back to the ship. It could be RNG that something hazardous can be brought back to the ship and cause major malfunction and doesn't show up as cargo.

did you have CRCR's?... if not, this may have been the issue as Thargoid tissue samples corrode your ships internals like stomach acid. :(

Thargoid poop!

Just got interdicted by some random NPC pirat while hauling cargo in Empire space. He landed some stray hits from afar. Nothing i normaly would consider to be off any danger.
While frameshift was already charging i got a red notification "hazardous substance detected", followed by several malfunctioning modules.
After jump i had a look at my systems, thrusters where down to some 30% and hull lost 20%.
This seems to be related to OP, but i never met a Thargoid or was in contact with corrosive cargo and stuff like that. Right before interdiction i had the standard pirate line "was coming a long way for whats in your hold", so i was likely not interdicted by Thargoid. Puzzling.

You are not the only one to report that

This all sounds a lot like the thing reported about a week ago by a guy out near the core, he randomly got a "hazardous substance detected" warning and took damage, said 'something' knocked him from SC, could have been module damage. He contacted Fdev and they appeared to confirm it was 'something new' and not a bug.

Maybe they're pulling a Star Trek and when we collect tissue samples, they're actually allowing a caustic missile to be harvested and taken into our cargo holds. That would be a pretty sweet adaptation.

Almost sounds like some random stuff that can hit you anywhere. OP Thargoid and my pirat might have nothing to do with that?

Where are these random "haz substance detected" instances occurring?

If no ships/aliens nearby, then we may be looking at alien "mines" that are being sown by alien ships. Maybe someone at FD has been borrowing from military history and tactics.

Now that I think about this, I do remember now.

I found out about this when I did a reboot and repair sequence. The last line in the information panel did say "Hazardous Substance detected" or something along the line. Ugh, I need to carry an AFM with me now just to be safe...

Everyone should do a reboot and repair to check your respective vessels.

from what ive been told, anything you salvage from tharg ships is corrosive, and you'll need the fancy new anti-corrosion cargo bays if you want to collect damaged artifacts without being eaten from the inside out. I haven't had time to see just what all is now dangerous, if its just samples from ships, or if probes and artifacts are becoming corrosive as well.. but I'm guessing a skin sample is likely corrosive.
