Elite Dangerous is dead

Um...now look...now look, mate, I've definitely 'ad enough of this. That game is definitely deceased, and when I purchased it not 'alf an hour ago, you assured me that its total lack of players was due to it bein' tired and shagged out following a prolonged squawk.

Nah, they just make posts in the threads about FD's future instead. There's a direct correlation between how desperate they sound and the imminent "success" of SC.

Wait... What... Elites dead... But that means I was playing with a corpse last night... Even worse I and my joystick had fun with a dead thing... How can I live this down?

Thanks for letting me know Ben, any idea when the servers are getting buried, I'd like to pay my respects to my old friend... That I abused last night. :D

At least Chris Roberts is still pregnant with his star child... Longest pregnancy ever though... I guess next for me is grave robbing to satisfy my needs and desires.

Wait... Didn't you always point out how this is a family friendly forum and that your great-grandchilds play the game?!

The kids no longer play elite, its a 'dad' thing now which apparently is not 'cool'. Plus I think I'm still a bit drunk after last night... Apologies if any offence was caused. I'd be happy to re-word the post. :)

Um, its not dead..... It's just resting.

lol they've been posting Dead threads since the game came out. Used to hear a lot more about Star Citizen. Not so much lately.
Yeah because Star Citizen is strangely actually delivering on content. I never thought I would see the day. I bought SC many years ago when you could only fly the 300i and I waited another year until I got ED. ED had way more content and now it seems SC has pulled their fingers out their butt and are actually delivering. ED content delivery was slow previously, but now Fdev have a few other game titles to work on, it's even slower.

I'm not one of the 'ED is dead' people, but I do believe that it's circling the drain. With the slow content roll-out and the secretive 'Soon™ and no comment' that gives us no clue as to where the game is headed, it's just pushing people away a little at a time. All my buddies that played have vanished and they were avid ED players, and it breaks my heart to see a game that had so much promise circle the drain.

Oh yes, they certainly are managing to deliver hundreds of hours of crappy youtube videos to go with their broken tech demo. The sheer power of doughy men talking about buying jpgs is sure to destroy Elite eventually. Somehow. If you squint. And gave a few wallets to Chris Roberts.

Can't believe we're still hearing this nonsense so many years later with so little Roberts has achieved other than getting matching his and hers Porches. I bet they still haven't figured out how to use the hundreds of hours of badly directed mocap data in there. I've only used it in a few limited cases for some CGI critters but even with two actors doing simple movements in a very short sequence, that stuff takes FLIPPIN' AGES to tweak properly and incorporate into your project... In the end I recall we found it easier just to animate it ourselves... and when you multiply it by a bunch of actors at once, multiplied again by the sheer number of reshoots they did, multiplied by CR's famously inept direction, multiplied by the excruciating employee churn rate = you can see why they've never shown any of S42. They can't make it work. So much for Mr. Cinematic.

It isn't dead but it sure could use a bath and a great big mug of coffee. That tea thing really doesn't do the trick.

Later today we'll hear of it wearing something nice and getting a nice day out with the family...:)

ED dead? I suppose if enough people keep wishing for that eventuality.

In my (humble) opinion, constructive .. even fierce .. criticism of individual mechanics is fair enough, as that improves the game. Sowing seed of doubt though, that Frontier don't care, that ED is dead so don't bother etc. is an entirely destructive approach. Imagine you're a possible new player, checking out the forums for example, and what you hear is people shouting fire in a theatre. I definitely don't approve of it, be careful what you wish for imo.

That's a surprise. I thought *everybody* played through steam, including console players. That's why Steam statistics can be relied on 100%.

Steam stats aren't the whole picture and they're not irrelevant, yet people still seem to like to argue one way or the other.

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.

Oh well.
