Alien archaeology and other mysteries: Breaking News, Theories and Tinfoil Hattery

I quite like this as an idea. However it is not yet a theory; it's a hypothesis that tries to make sense of some "facts" as translated and disseminated by Ram Tah. Now we know that FD aren't above being Machiavellian and might be putting out misleading information/comments, so I advise caution in accepting "facts" as we have been told until somehow corroborated. What you need to do to make this idea into a theory is see what predictions it can produce which can then be tested. If tested positively then it becomes a theory which will suffice until it is deposed by a later theory that explains more "facts" (there's a link in my signature to a discussion of scientific method)

You may already be trying to do that, since I think you imply it predicts the Guardian homeworld is in Wregoe and from your subsequent post you may be trying to search around there. Good luck in your search! Can you get any more predictions out of your idea that could be tested?

I do think there is more to be found out about the brain trees. The sounds they make seem to me to be based on human speech patterns though heavily distorted (I have a 6 minute recording). I don't think (though my memory is poor) that they have yet been thoroughly analysed by sound experts.

Coincidentally I am just reading a thriller where a religious expert points out that Totems are symbolic, whereas Relics are the remains of persons or are objects 'sanctified' by contact with the person. So might the Guardian relics contain parts of Guardian DNA and that us what injures the Thargoids when chunks are embedded into the AX missiles? Just a thought!

If you jump into my guardian thread, there's a new idea regarding the sounds of both the brain trees and ancient ruins.

Basically, there may not be a message at all buried in them, they are merely showing us that the brain trees communicate by analogue, and the ancient ruins are digital (more about it in my thread)

So basically the Guardians could be machines? This could explain the Thargoid hostilities towards them as they appear to be organic.

Is there any evidence at all (other than the small bit of of dialogue from questionable people in Premonition) that talks about different factions of Thargoids? A lot of people seem to take it for granted all this stuff about factions and things but I'm not aware of this as being fact, just supposition from self-confessed liars and manipulators.

I’ve been trying to think of a reason why the Thargoids are happily scooping up escape pods.

Maybe they’re trying to build an army out of ‘conscripted’ pilots. They are at war, and they’re supposed to be a hive mind. If minds can be added to the network, like the old Guardian tech, the pilots in the escape pods might be being utilised to ‘virtual presence’ fly the organic Thargoid ships to fight in their war.

Not necessarily. Speculation is that the ruins might be the result of the AI/linked Guardians rather than "all guardians" since lore on them has them being very organic-based (into genetic engineering and living very ecologically etc.) and the ruins appear very technological.

In Premonition both 'the Club' members and Bill Turner talks about this.

The conflict between Klaxians and oresrians is also described in 'Out of the Darkness'.

Even The Dark Wheel mention Oresrians.

In FFE, there is descriptions of two separate insectoid ammonia species.

We never seem to meet the Klaxians though. :)

The Club aren't necessarily telling the truth, and many things from FFE aren't lore any more. I've not read the other books yet so can't comment. I'm just suspicious because there's been no official, reliable, source that claims the Thargoids have factions or give them names, yet many people seem to be treating it as indisputable fact. I'm not sure we even know for a fact they are insectoid do we? Just a lot of speculation and old lore from old games.

Does nobody else find it... odd... that a prison ship turned up in Merope for no apparent reason? I find it hard to believe that they were simply on a sightseeing tour. Did we just buy the Thargoids dinner?

So what comes next? Has anyone tried feeding them whiskey and wine? :O

Or perhaps all those poor ready meals prisoners had been accidentally infected with something before paying a visit to the new neighbours.

This also gave me pause for thought:

Here's the best Thargoid "cockpit" shot I have, for reference. Looks like a couple of thumbprints in there, kinda :)

It's an older model, from pre-2.4, so nothing we haven't already seen. Weird "thumbprint" blobs instead of the 8-diaphragm aperture structures that we see today, and while the recent changes to the model may simply be artistic it isn't impossible that there is some lore significance, but the answer to that may be a long way off. More significant is the missing Thargoid logo marking. Was the logo missing for a proper story reason, or was it removed to obfuscate the direct link between the vessels and the barnacles just to keep us, the players, from learning that fact? If the latter then I personally would find that a bit disappointing.

Carl Linnaeus(OotD) is the most reliable source, as he has the info first hand. He works with the Oresrians, personally.

Can we trust what the Oresrians tell us about the Klaxians?
That is the real question.

So, Feds turning tail and retreating cowardly, Imperials likely to make a consolidated advance in the retrograde direction shortly after.

What about the Alliance?

Also,, i'm pretty convinced now that in the "cockpit" is two "eyes", since that's where the scanner beam originates, and the bottom has a "mouth"... being where the tractor beam originates and pulls cargo.

No mention of any attacks on Alliance ships in the previous Galnet.
Looks like they are safe. :D

So 100% confirmed that the Thargoids have two factions and do communicate with us? If that's the case why don't they just talk to us then instead of all the mystery?

According to Linnaeus they will only talk to people that has something of value to offer them.

I guess the INRA sabotage of their diplomatic meating with the Alliance made them shy. :)

I've been hyperdicted a couple times. First time by 2 Thargoids and the second time by 3. My question is, what's up with the mimicking behavior they display? Also is this behavior a bug? I can't get good answers to this.

Is that a serious question?

Yes.

I just feel a bit confused because people very confidently talk about Klaxians and Oresrians and how the Oresrians are running from the Klaxians etc.etc. But except for a very short passage in Premonition, I've not come across anything about that at all, and if you read Premonition, there's a lot of doubt about why the members of The Club would reveal such plans to a room full of people specifically out to spread the 'Truth' - there is literally zero reason for them to do that at all, they literally assemble the heroes in a room and Bond-Style reveal their plans they've been apparently hiding (really, really well) for 50+ years. It seems to me like more manipulation and manoeuvring to spread more disinformation. One of The Club even mentions the fact they are revealing all their secret plans in sort of an ironic way.

So I'm questioning the assumptions that we have and asking for cross-references from other sources.

Asking why they don't just talk to us - If we're in communication with them (at all, in any way, or ever have been), then why don't they tell us... anything. Why don't we understand their communications? Surely someone somewhere (like the genius Ran Tah maybe) has already studied Thargoid language and made translators? Literally, why not warn us off, or tell us about the horrible other faction of Thargoids coming our way, or tell us they're going to eat us... or tell us they want to be friends while secretly planning to eat us. Why all the mystery and whale-sounds and stuff?

The interactions in-game seem to be, essentially, meeting an entirely unknown species that doesn't seem to understand Humanity at all and we don't seem to understand them (having to develop weapons and tech specifically for them, etc.), it seems more like they've just encountered aliens and are studying us just like we're basically meeting a whole new species and investing them. Surely Thargoids already know what humans are? I mean we literally nearly killed their entire species. Did they just forget us?

They're really powerful right? If they're hostile, why aren't they already in the Bubble destroying everything? Why are they scooting around the Pleiades like they're a bit confused? We've not moved our worlds, the old Thargoids knew where Human worlds were (cos they attacked us there, there's a Tourist beacon in core worlds mentioning the First Thargoid Attack).

I think it's good to question assumptions until there's definite answers either way.

I'm still confused by the initial question though. It's a story. There's a tale to be told. That's why there's a mystery. What are you expecting, a text message declaring intentions?

Yes feels like someone just fed the Thargoids a lot of bodies... for whatever they're doing.

I like the idea they're coring and Thralling them :)

The author Neal Asher has an alien species called the Prador, who resemble giant crabs, they abduct people and "core" them (literally drilling out their brains and implanting biological control units).
