Docking - Does anyone find it fun?

I swear if I tried to go thru the slot at that speed I'd be splattered all over the side of the station
For me, the radar is the key. The radar was very important in the 84 game. I am a little OCD about being the right way up and on the right side as well. I have not flown an Anaconda yet and they look really scary; having the flight deck so high.

Always fun! Actually one of joys when arriving anywhere. :D I always try to dock and arrive very elegantly and efficiently.

Docking i can do faster than the DC but i dont find it fun but stressful and boring simultaneously, even MORE if i have just made 30 or 40 jumps back to the bubble. all i want when i get into the station zone is to be docked. its bad enough you have to keep your hand on the controls while it does it just in case you need to save, but no I dont enjoy docking. i dont have some issue i need to compensate for to be able to boast i always dock manual like some - not enough to drop my DC from all my ships even my explorer, which could do with limpet controller and space for limpets. I can land on planets, drive around, escape from a drop in between two close stars with no panic and only a little stress (and needing an underwear change) - but not docking. i wish the DC was 100% safe and capable so I could do something productive while it docks but not so much as to want to take over unless i have to, to land on a pad inside station or on outposts.
I have experienced a few issues with the DC, but have not had one; since I started dropping the landing gear first.

Personally I love docking. It's been my favorite part of the game since the start.

It's the one time in the game I really feel like I'm flying fast in a spaceship. Part of it is the frame of reference. In open space you have no feeling for how fast the ship is going or turning outside of other ships or the space dust. When docking, thoigh, the sprawl of the station is all around you, especially as you go through the slot. Absolutely love it and would probably delete the game if they made the DC automatic. It's one of the big reasons I couldn't get into No Man's Sky... Horrid flight model, not real-fake spaceshippy at all. (Also love rings. Go figure.)

Doesn't matter what ship I'm in or which angle I approach the station. I actually like getting dropped behind an Orbis or Ocellus and flying through the rings and then powersliding back toward the slot. You have to keep an eye on the scanner to watch out for outgoing traffic, mind the throttle, baby this stick, get some FA/Off and lat/vert thruster action to get down on the pad. You know... flying.

I can understand why some people don't dig it or outright hate it, but for an uber-repetitive task you absolutely have to do to play the game, it provides me with the most entertainment.

I call QoL on that!

Yeah; I really get over these conversations quickly about how some pilots like to flex their docking muscle and the rest of us should get to the good... I know how to fly my ship(s) and I don't need others to tell me how great they are at being the god of docking.

Those glitches that seem to happen with the DC.... for me that seems to change from ship to ship (if they happen at all which is once in a blue moon) and it sort of gives every ship some type of "character" or "personality" which I find cute and appealing.

I love docking. For me, it is the most immersive part of the game, especially in VR. Besides being able to see the fullness of the station on entry, I love the feeling of being in control of my own ship. It is the closest I will ever come to flying a space ship, so no docking computer for me.

Here's another question: When I am approaching a target, like a station, at...Warp? Speed, how do I drop out in time so as not to overshoot it? What do I watch for, and what do I press? Thanks!

The throttle indicator (for want of a better word) while in supercruise; get it into the blue power band.

It takes a bit of practice to finesse exactly how far out you should be from your target and have it set just in the blue so that you don't overshoot.

The ship should continue to decelerate towards your target until your speed and distance from target triggers the "safe to disengage" (from supercruise) message come up in your HUD.

At least I think that's what you meant.

Fly safe!

I know im late to the party but just wanted to say that i kove docking.
Especially in big ships...
Exept for d drive fully loaded cutter on high g world... that one is not fun.

Well I mean it's a core part of the game that 99% of players enjoy, now it isn't really all that stressful, I mean you got 10 minutes yo! If you can't dock in that time then there's something really wrong on your part, maybe loitering is a bit too harsh but I've never been destroyed by it, as for the pads well you can use your compass to guide yourself into your pad, lock the station, if the circle is hollow=It's behind you, Full circle=It's in front of u.

Also get a docking computer, I use it merely for the music lol

It's reasonably fast for a Clipper. I've gone through the slot doing a shade under 400 in a Cobra Mk3 and an Asp and landed fine; as I used to say when smuggling, if you're not leaving contrails inside the station you went in too slow.

Or if you don't want to do that, do what about 80% of players do.

Set a keybinding in the menu for 75% throttle. When your HUD shows you as being 0.07 (i.e. seven seconds) away from the station, press your bound key. The time display will drop to 0.06 - don't panic, don't touch anything. Wait for the safe disengage message. Done.

There are faster ways to get in but if you want something that is 100% reliable and will never see you having to do the loop of shame again, that's it.

Edit - Christ, if a mod wants to edit those into a single post be my guest, I expected them to auto-merge.

That's not fast, I've boosted my Conda in at 300m/s when I want to avoid being scanned, probably because I'm trying to collect my bounty's in system where I ended up wanted by shooting the wrong ship, but if there's over a million on the bounty's, I'm not leaving without them!
