Journey to the edge, with pictures and commentary

SO finally , after trying once and heading back, I built a dedicated exploration ship and made a journey to the nearest edge of the galaxy.

Setting off in my trusty new Asp Explorer.

Thoroughly probed the farthest end of the "hot dog".

Wow, just look at all those jerks!

Quite a way out.

That's it. I can go no farther in this direction.

Ringed planet on the way back.

The galaxy gets blotchy part way back. Maybe that's that big annoying dead region you have to go around.

Binary water worlds, with a third one as part of another pair. That's kind of neat. I also found 4 Earth-likes (see Earth-like thread). I do like exploring once in a while, I just hope the recently announced upgrades make it more worthwhile. An anomaly scanner that tells you if there's anything interesting when you honk a system would be nice (nobody has time to just fly around and try to stumble on stuff in a galaxy this big).

Nice!

Are you on the nearest edge from Sol? If you are and are still there, how about targeting Beagle point & Oevasy SG-Y d0 (Semotus Beacon / Ishum's Reach) and seeing how far they are away...

When I get back from those locations I intend to find the place where it is the farthest from them. It's probably already been found but I want to see that big number!

When I was there at the edge and Jackie Silver was at Ishum's Reach, I think the distance was roughly 85 Kylies. Roughly, I don't remember the exact number.

The northern rim is actually one of the least distant ones from the centre of the galaxy so if you want really big numbers between systems then it's best to look elsewhere. The biggest distance between reachable systems that I could find was 87,011 LY between a system at the end of the Outer Arm Vacuus and another on the north western rim.

By comparison, the distance from Semotus Beacon to Notus (southern meridian) is 81,584 LY and to Amundsen's Star (most southerly) is 83,472 LY.

Nice. I recently returned from a similar trip to the edge as far as possible, though not directly south. I got to Aiconk RS-U d2-0 with zero stars past that as far as I could see.
It was a great view ... https://youtu.be/iC7egXU8FkQ

p.s. Beagle point read 80.8K Ly away, targeted in video

I'll check next time I'm in the game. I'm actually a bit to the right of the center (looking towards it) as I found the stars were denser farther out there.
