Extremely sad that I am sick of exploring...My thoughts, what about yours?

Yes, I feel rather silly now eh? Unless this was the impetus that sparked everything (it does feel like every single issue I had was addressed at the EXPO)? In which case I am proud o7

Water under the bridge. Probably no relation.

I think it is time for you to now give impetus about atmospheric flight and space legs. Feel free to go ahead and knock yourself out with an apropriate thread title like "Extremely sad I am sick of having my bum stuck to a chair" or somefink.

If Obsidian Ant has seen any of this during his visit at FDev, he has certainly overachieved his NDA too. :)

That said though, I don't recall anyone ever asking for an Exploration Codex.....

I think the idea of an exploration/materials/discovery Codex is pretty much what I described a while back on this thread:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...city-Farseer?p=4085524&viewfull=1#post4085524

I have no way of knowing what the codex is that was mentioned on the stream this weekend, or how FD see it developing. If it aligns with anything i described I think it would be a really interesting addition.

Imagine a resource in game that acted as a tool to remove the "fog of war" on how materials, POI, Interesting bodies and features are distributed in the galaxy. One that develops and informs you based on your own personal exploration and discoveries.

Currently as an exploration driven community we rely on crowd sourcing data from each other, archivists to record them to google docs, hopping out of game to use web sites to reference... Its a bit, dry.

If i had a way to find that out in game based on my actions, that would make exploring more engaging. If the improvements to mining also net out to new game mechanics for exploration as well. All good.

If asteroids become more interactive, then thats something new to investigate in our journeys, maybe the knowledge we collect in our codex could have some unique value somewhere? Maybe its a new mcguffin to hang specialist exploration or prospecting missions off?

The ideas from Erimus and others about having new tools that reveal new content in the existing galaxy that we might have "missed" would be really exciting. All those journeys already taken, refreshed with new tools, scanners and probes that uncover areas that are not discoverable today, but might be in the future. Its a great way to add a new layer to even well trodden routes for those that want to look.

Of course these new tools could legitimately become possible thanks to the new learnings uncovered from the new materials and discoveries of the guardians and thargoids, maybe they were or are aware of different ways to view and observe the galaxy...

So.... i guess this thread is now obsolete? Eh, Dr. Kaii? ;)

Nah it was hardly silly. This thread is indicative of how a lot of explorers feel, and let's be honest, exploration hasn't been improved at all just yet. Frontier said a lot of great things at the Expo but have yet to actually implement any of them or develop exploration in any way. I'm excited now for 2018 so much that I wish I had a time machine to get there sooner, but we should hold our expectations and temper our praise until exploration is actually developed and transformed into something much, much better than it has been for the past three years.

It wasn't a silly thread, it was a necessary thread. ;)

I agree exploration neeeds more improvements across the board but this thread was just an expresion of that. Considering that no community manager or developer has answered in this thread, I don't think our voices made a whole lot of difference.

I disagree. Over the years our continuous voices have made a difference, and our repeated pleas for development to exploration coupled with our communities strength have been enough that Frontier has noticed and finally given exploration some priority. Maybe not here in this forum so much as the devs don't seem to bother with it, but across other forums and media platforms for sure. We present Elite Dangerous in some of the best media light possible with our pictures, videos, and expeditions full of cooperation. I for one think our voices most definitely have mattered.

Our voices certanly do matter, silence doesn't speak for itself. Nontheless, this thread doesn't seem to have done a whole lot to help for the cause.

Also we took the opportunity and gave the link to this thread to Steve Kirby himself at Expo so that they have kind of a compendium what should be changed.
This thread was very important just for that purpose :D

It's OK that I'm just happy with Civ5 and all of it's shenanigans, right? Right?!

Patiently waiting for Planet Rail from FD though...

Wait, what are we talking about again?

OT: Though Civ6 looks unfinished. Once they discount the complete version, then it'll consider getting it. :)

Civ 6 needs an expansion or two to really make it great. I love it and the new mechanics are fun, but the AI isn't so great and the game just needs some more fleshing out and polishing.

Civ 5 complete is superior but I can't go back to it because the new mechanics of Civ 6 are really good.
