The reason I always leave game again

- CQC either dead and when not, dominated by HOTAS
Really, no. The best CQC players on PC are split pretty evenly between control schemes - some use keyboard and mouse, some use HOTAS, some use joystick and mouse, a few use dual sticks, at least one uses an old console controller. It's practice, not "having a better controller", that means they win. (If you PM me the name of the player who kept winning I'll probably be able to tell you what control method they use...)

Main game PvP is much the same in terms of controls (though if anything even more of a bias towards keyboard+mouse by the very best players)

Can I have your stuff?

Haha..a true ED mercenary :)

But as regards the OP:

- 8 hours play time..mmm, might explain some things.
- don't keep uninstalling the game, you might want to come back to it.
- Buy a Hotas.
- Goodies for explorers in 3.0 including squashing the beige plague and more tools.
- Credits are easier than they used to be, box on.
- If PvP is your bag, git good (sorry but that's the answer for combat).

Did I leave anything out? :D

I keep installing the game again and again because frankly, I love the idea behind it, I really like so much about it, BUT ...... :

- Money making appears to take even longer now, especially with bounty hunting
- Powers to join is a great concept, but man that reward.....so much risk for so little reward. Got blown up by Hotas-Techexperts, because as a mouse and keyboard player I give that up.
- CQC either dead and when not, dominated by HOTAS, TECH ++++++++++++ Superior players that leave keyboard and mouse users zero chance. I had a 2 hour fight on sunday, rare !!!! But the same guy kept winning over and over by a milestone, not fun.
- PVP extremely frustrated as dominated also by HOTAS-TECH ++++++++++ guys. You do not even know what hit you. There should be a way of knowing that an opponent has advanced flight control systems or so in-game so no HOTAS-TECH ++++++++++ users can avoid pvp. I would myself get a Joystick but after the days of the ForceFeedback Sidewinder (last game I played was Comanche Gold with it), I stopped using Joysticks because of tediously long and frustrating hours trying to make them work. Now from reading forums it apparently needs a guy with programming skills to set one up? No more plug and play and calibrate in 20 secs....

I am sad to have to deinstall it again, because I do all I can to continue play it, but I spend now a total of 8 hours and I got nowhere.... Moneywise I made - 400,000 because I mainly donated money for my faction because I want to increase my rank and it clearly is the fastest given the fact that missions take sometimes so long for little reward (kill 12 pirates to get 800k .....).

I had a lot of fun exploring back in 2016, but I did so much of it that I just can't do it now.

Anyway, signing off. I hope I would be able to continue play, I just can't.... You guys that are in the middle of it and totally sucked in by this game, go and have some fun for me !

Some of the best players are kB/m players. SC may be more your thing it's much better suited to kB/m than hotas (unlike you this sucks in my view, our avatars use hotas so that should hint it is the superior method. A T flight X is 35quid if you get lucky and no programming needed. (I use an x55 but would not recommend it. V poorly made).

Money making has never been easier in ed. If u like combat look for a combat CG you will make millions.

I played KBM before getting a HOTAS. Immersion is better, but I am no better a pilot for it. I am an arthritic old guy, with reflexes to match, but in CQC I usually don't finish bottom. I can make reasonable money trading, by focusing on a small number of systems and flying between them aligning with factions as I go. In a Cobra I can get several million an hour.

To be honest, I prefer to just enjoy the game for what it is. I dont worry about money. Basically anything you do will add to your bank balance.

So whats wrong with that? Whats your basis for comparison what does it matter whether you make 4000, 40000, 400000, 40000000 in 8 hours? You're not framing this and need to give it context. I mean it just makes no sense, its like the ramblings of someone who has smoked to much onion head.

So you don't think you've made enough money, give huge chunks of it away and then start moaning about it on the forums! What do you expect tea and sympathy? That's just not going to happen.

In fact this is a troll thread right? I mean you cant be seriously upset about this you put in 8 hours into a game people have been playing years and you sound like you're upset because you don't own every ship in the fleet.

You're blaming it on the Hotas???
That's ridiculous!

If you're into PvP just buy a cheap Thrustmaster X and you're ready to go. You can find used ones for less than 50$.
And you can easily compete with the "Warthog superior race" players.

Imho PvE is perfectly ok with mouse & keyboard or a gamepad (I personally use an Xbox controller when I'm traveling and playing on my laptop)

Mouse and keyboard players are some of the best pvpers in the game. What are you on about OP....

I only use HOTAS and peddles coz mah immurshun

A thorough dose of "gitting gud" sounds required.

Many solutions to such simple problems!

1. But a hotas. If that's too difficult to set up, or not convenient (like me, I don't have a desk), buy a cheap knock-off Xbox one gamepad for PC.. So much easier.
And it's plug and play. Literally. No messing with bindings. Just plug, and play!

2. Making money is easy. You just need to find it. Passenger missions pay well. Bounty hunting you can do 3-4mil an hour, ship and skill dependant. CGs can earn good money.

3. If you feel you can't complete with the meta PvP crowd (and only other meta PvPers really can) join a PG or solo.

(I have a German shepherd I attend to 3 hrs a day, a medically sick wife that I take care for in all aspects, work, and the tiny time I have I go surf (beach), or play games, I literally sleep 6 hours (including weekends), if I would sleep the regular 8 hours I would have zero hobbies basically, because I just take care of everything then but myself. Not lazy here).

lol, as you can see I don't even know how to quote.....best not even thinking of fiddling with HOTAS, I'd be better off trying touching the moon.

That clears things up a bit. You're time starved and have a lot of, probably stressful at times, responsibility. Both HOTAS' I've used were more or less plug and play (T-Flight HOTAS X and now, T16000-M FCS). The real time sinker is setting up a configuration to your liking. I can see this being a frustration with what little leisure time you have. I would just like to say, though, that it may not be as time consuming as you expect; setting up a HOTAS. There are many peoples bindings on these threads, and elsewhere for ED with various HOTAS set ups.

One of the sites a lot of people use is https://www.mcdee.net/elite/ where you can share your binds for anyone to install into ED, download other peoples to your client, or simply print out the binds you have made as a visual reminder ('Where's the g Landing Gear button I bound yesterday?').

I hope this helps. I can see your situation and understand the frustration these things present. Take care.

Dont most PVPers dump the HOTAS for M&K?

Probably, but that's not providing authentic flying experience I find. Even your HoloMe-Avatar uses HOTAS.

To OP:

It took me a while to find my preferred key combination on the HOTAS. If that's the problem, why don't you just ask for the peoples preferred configurations and try them out yourself?

Reduces the time to experiment to one, maybe two sessions before you can play properly but then it sticks.

Can I have your stuff?

nice AV

Oh and OP the reason is that you seem to have a low attention span. 8hrs. most of the ppl you encounter have played for years... thats the difference right there. Its like playing a sport aginst sb. who has way more experience in it ...

Reading the comments here makes me realise what an apathetic (use a dictionary) bunch of players we have playing this game. It's all about how great you people are at setting up your HOTAS and how any idiot can do it. "Can I have your stuff" type remarks.

The man says he has little time, has a sick wife and cares for a dog. yet all you guys can think about is your egos and how good you all are.

Someday, you'll get older and realise, time is a precious commodity. And the the older you get, the less time you have left.

Show some respect and common courtesy, if you have any that is.

Keyboard and mouse can be awkward, which is why I use Voiceattack, don't have to search for the keys, I'd also recommend a cheap gaming mouse that you can program macros in, it helps a lot, I certainly cannot afford a decent Hotas, way out of my pocket.

Here's a secret about all that Hot Butt stuff that's going around:

It's a lie.

Control sticks are a relic of a bygone age, born out of necessity, and not because they're especially good at anything. They were originally something mounted on a long lever so you could move all the control surfaces in your biplane or your Cessna 172. Sure, if you have to fight against the forces of a raging storm tearing on some pieces of cloth, wood, or metal, to set the 3rd or so derivative function of what your vehicle is supposed to do, they do the trick.

They do not tell the vehicle where to go. They tell the vehicle what you think it's supposed to do to change its heading to eventually change its track to eventually maybe point in the correct direction. It's three steps away from the result. If you want to tell your spaceship where to go, use a mouse! It will be way more direct in telling your ship to look a given direction, and it will not be a badly made replica of something that was originally designed to withstand a panicking monkey tearing on it while still trying to press a couple buttons while wearing heavy gloves.

Did you miss the other statements made. Mouse and keyboard is not a handicap in this game.

The joystick as a control method is all about intuition. It;s the most intuitive method to control a vessel in 3d space, you push forward, your nose goes down, you pull back your nose goes up. You move the stick left, your ship banks left, etc etc. It's about being able to pull off a maneuver without having to think about what buttons to press while being a panicking monkey.

The best control method is the one you are used to, but given that mouse control methods differ from game to game and joystick control methods (largely) do not, the joystick is most definitely still the optimal peripheral to use for sim type games, cos once you are used to it in one game, you are used to it in them all, so it's one less learning curve. I play FPS with a mouse cos it lends itself well to that, real pilots fly real planes with yokes and joysticks because they lend themselves well to that.
