Pedantic Observations

As a Pedantry Olympian I would like to highlight certain things in ED that ping my pedantry radar:

1. The FSD counter is always a second out.
2. Why is every liner in the top 1%?
3. If every liner is in the top 1% why are they always late?
4. Why is it always a guy that jettisons his cargo whilst docked?
5. How can you have serious engine failure? Its binary, it works or it doesn't, in which case it is just engine failure.
6. Why when they say I should give way to larger craft do I get fined when a Sidey flies into my Cutter?
7. Why cant the logistics people in starports plan better? What difference would delivering something 1 minute later make?
8. Why cant wedding barges have local comms, I am not interested in somebody elses wedding.
9. Why do pirates announce their arrival before interdicting? Just do it and surprise me.
10.Why do I keep making lists?

I so wanted to rep this, but I've already repped you, so here's a virtual rep for nearly everything on that list, I'm gonna lead a thargoid to one of those wedding barges if the opportunity ever presents itself.

• Why are there convoys seemingly in a hurry flying outside of supercruise, where it will literally take years to reach any destination?

8. Why cant wedding barges have local comms, I am not interested in somebody elses wedding.

Apparently there are no PA systems in any of the ships, so the best solution is to message everyone in the system and have passengers listen on their personal radios.

Think it's bad when you have to read it, I use EDDI and Ivona TTS, it's helpful for getting warning messages, but also means I have to hear all other inane chatter that comes through the message box, I'll look into filtering at some point.

Agreed, and getting same messages over and over in every system further highlights the fact that it's just a scripted random encounter that's playing for your "benefit", instead of a real, living universe.

12. Why do pirates hover over my ship for hours while I'm out in the SRV and only attack when I board it?

Wouldn't it be easier to just take me out and board my ship at their leisure?

1. Don't know.
2. The other 99% do not have radios.
3. Passenger demands....
4. Did you never get the talk about The Birds and the Bees?
5. I only have happy engine failures.... maybe take it to a garage?
6. you should dodge out the way - reckless driver!
7. They have to be ready for when the Liners arrive....
8. Radio's need an off button - I spot anm opportunity supplying them to the top 1% of liners....
9. To induce fear and to hear the wailing of your women. Or something like that.
10. .....

1. No it isn't. :)
2 & 3. I started a whole thread about these issues. I can't believe that these liners are still allowed to advertise their lies over the airwaves.
4. Well, I do it when I realise that I've got stuff in my hold I don't want, but can't sell (no blackmarket, or possibly that I've just bought the wrong PowerPlay items [which I do quite regularly :) ]).
5. A serious engine failure is one that you can't fix with a pair of stockings.
6. Agreed. I follow these instructions to the letter when I'm in my Cutter, and give way to no-one.
7. They're just having a laugh to see if you'll do it. They've got bets on it too. It's all back-office fun.
8. Agreed.
9. Agreed.
10. Because.

Sitting on the pad. Engine wont start. Engine failure.
Just boosted toward the slot. Thrusters fail. Can't slow down. Serious engine failure.

I agree with all the others though. (Except 10. I have no idea about that one).

2. Why is every liner in the top 1%?

Because none of them can edge The Naked Singularity out of the #1 liner spot.

The Naked Singularity is always on time - often just ahead of schedule, and accommodates even the most demanding passengers.

When the best just isn't good enough, fly Naked.

I will do my best to answer.

As a Pedantry Olympian I would like to highlight certain things in ED that ping my pedantry radar:

1. The FSD counter is always a second out. Or is it?
2. Why is every liner in the top 1%? Marketing
3. If every liner is in the top 1% why are they always late? Traffic jams
4. Why is it always a guy that jettisons his cargo whilst docked? The cargo is full of his ex-gf's stuff. She just broke up with him.
5. How can you have serious engine failure? Its binary, it works or it doesn't, in which case it is just engine failure. Your engine could fail, but it could not be serious. ... :D
6. Why when they say I should give way to larger craft do I get fined when a Sidey flies into my Cutter? You were speeding.
7. Why cant the logistics people in starports plan better? What difference would delivering something 1 minute later make? Someone could need a biowaste transfusion, or die.
It could mean war, or peace.

8. Why cant wedding barges have local comms, I am not interested in somebody elses wedding.Be more social; stop being a prudish git. Why can't you just be happy for them!? ;)
9. Why do pirates announce their arrival before interdicting? Just do it and surprise me.Pompous blustering
10.Why do I keep making lists?Could be OCD. [fake psychologist summary]

Why does the Beluga (et al) have fins when there's no air? [<cynical>to make it easier for pilots to get entangled in the slot, and have the pleasure of their ships being destroyed, and incurring a fine or maybe even a bounty if they're lucky, getting a bollocking, and all the passengers upset, and lost REP. </cynical>]
